LogisVert Subsidy - Multi-Housing Bonus | Wall-Mounted Heat Pump

Multifamily LogisVert Bonus: up to $220 / 1,000 BTU for cold climate wall-mounted heat pumps

The LogisVert Multihousing Bonus is a specific financial aid offered as part of the Hydro-Québec LogisVert program. It is intended for owners of multiplexes and multi-unit residential buildings who wish to improve the energy performance of their building by installing ENERGY STAR® Certified Cold Climate Wall-Mounted Heat Pumps in eligible housing units.

This bonus stems from the 2030 Green Economy Plan of the Quebec government and specifically targets buildings located in energy poverty zones designated by Hydro-Québec. The goal is simple: to make wall-mounted heat pumps more accessible in eligible rental buildings, while improving tenant comfort and the energy efficiency of older buildings.

When all conditions are met, the subsidy can reach $220 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C for the purchase and installation of a wall-mounted heat pump of the cold climate type. This amount includes the regular LogisVert assistance for cold climate heat pumps, plus the multi-unit bonus provided for eligible buildings.

At AirGreen, we support multi-unit property owners in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore, and on the North Shore in choosing, installing, and preparing the necessary information for wall-mounted heat pumps eligible for the LogisVert program. Our goal: to help you modernize your building with an efficient, compliant solution that is well suited to each unit.

Quick summary: key takeaways

The LogisVert Multiresidential Bonus is aimed at owners of multiplexes and multiresidential buildings who wish to install cold climate wall-mounted heat pumps in eligible units. This is not a general subsidy for all buildings: the building must meet several specific criteria established by Hydro-Québec. Here are the key points to remember:

This bonus is intended for eligible rental property owners, not tenants.

Multiplexes, residential buildings with 19 units or fewer, as well as certain residential buildings with 20 units or more.

The building must be located in an energy poverty zone designated by Hydro-Québec, confirmed using the postal code. Here is the link: Click Here

Newer buildings are not eligible for this bonus.

The bonus applies to multi-family buildings, meaning buildings with at least two residential units.

Each housing unit must have its own electric meter.

The bonus applies to owners whose each tenant is responsible for their electricity service subscription.

For this bonus, the eligible equipment is a wall-mounted mini-split air-to-air heat pump installed in at least one eligible dwelling.

The wall-mounted heat pump must be certified ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate to qualify for the rebate.

The bonus adds $100 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C to the regular financial assistance for cold climate heat pumps, bringing the total potential amount to $220 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C when all requirements are met.

This bonus applies to installations made from this date onward.

The Multi-Unit Bonus cannot be combined with the 5% bonus for multiple measures, nor with any other offer from Hydro-Québec or government agencies for the same equipment or work.

What does the LogisVert Multi-Unit Bonus consist of?

Assistance designed to modernize rental buildings

Assistance designed to modernize rental buildings

The Bonification Multilogements LogisVert is an additional financial aid intended for owners of multiplexes and multi-unit residential buildings who wish to modernize their housing with ENERGY STAR® Certified Cold Climate Wall-Mounted Heat Pumps. It specifically targets eligible buildings located in energy poverty zones designated by Hydro-Québec, often older buildings where improving heating and cooling can make a real difference for occupants. The goal is to help owners make their housing more comfortable, efficient, and attractive, while reducing reliance on traditional electric heating.

A grant more advantageous than the regular LogisVert aid

A grant more advantageous than the regular LogisVert aid

Normally, under the LogisVert program, an ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate heat pump may qualify for financial assistance of $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C. With the Multiresidential Bonus, Hydro-Québec adds an additional amount of $100 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C for eligible buildings. The total amount can therefore reach $220 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C when all program conditions are met. This bonus thus represents an increase of more than 80% compared to the regular assistance for a cold climate heat pump.

An interesting program for owners and their tenants

An interesting program for owners and their tenants

For an owner, this bonus can make an installation project much more attractive, especially when it involves equipping multiple units in the same building. A cold climate wall-mounted heat pump can improve comfort in winter, provide efficient air conditioning in summer, and help modernize the perceived value of the building. For tenants, the benefit is just as tangible: a more stable temperature, better comfort season after season, and a heating solution that is much more efficient than electric baseboards alone. At AirGreen, we assist owners in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore, and on the North Shore in choosing eligible models, tailored to each unit and compliant with LogisVert requirements.

Who is eligible?

These criteria are important because the incentive targets specific rental buildings: older buildings located in eligible areas where the installation of cold climate wall-mounted heat pumps can concretely improve energy efficiency and housing comfort.

Eligible owners

The LogisVert Multiresidential Bonus is intended for owners of an eligible residential building, not tenants. To be eligible, the owner must have a rental building that meets Hydro-Québec’s criteria, and each tenant must be responsible for their own electricity bill. This is therefore not a subsidy that tenants can apply for themselves to install a heat pump: the application must be made as part of an eligible project by the building owner.

How to check if your building is in an eligible area?

Hydro-Québec confirms the eligibility of the area based on the building's postal code. The owner must enter the building's postal code into the official LogisVert tool to find out if the address is located in a energy poverty zone designated by Hydro-Québec. If the area is eligible, the portal can then help estimate the potential amount of the bonus based on the project information.

What type of heat pump is eligible?

Wall-mounted heat pump only

Wall-mounted heat pump only

For the LogisVert Multiresidential Bonus, the targeted equipment is more specific than in the regular LogisVert program. Hydro-Québec refers to a wall-mounted mini-split air-to-air heat pump, meaning a wall-mounted heat pump installed in an eligible dwelling. This bonus does not apply to just any HVAC system: it applies to wall-mounted heat pumps installed in at least one eligible dwelling of a multiresidential building that meets the program's criteria.

ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate Required

ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate Required

The wall-mounted heat pump must be certified ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate. This is an essential condition, as the subsidy amount is calculated based on the official capacity of the unit at -8 °C, not just the BTU rating displayed in the model's trade name. When all conditions are met, the bonus adds $100 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C to the regular assistance, reaching a potential total of $220 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C.

Minimum technical requirements

Minimum technical requirements

The complete system must be new, installed in an eligible residence, and include all necessary components, namely the outdoor unit and the indoor unit(s). The outdoor unit must have a minimum rated capacity of 12,000 BTU/h in cooling mode. The equipment must also be purchased from a store in Quebec, or online from a company with an address in Quebec, and the installation must be used for heating and cooling the eligible dwelling.

What documents should be prepared for the application?

1. Proof of ownership of the multi-unit dwelling

For the Multifamily Bonus, Hydro-Québec requires a specific proof of ownership: the most recent property assessment issued by the municipality. This document notably helps confirm information related to the building and its property value.

Steps to obtain the Multifamily Bonus

  • 18 shield check
    Step 1

    Check the building's eligibility

Before choosing a heat pump, you must first confirm that the building meets the basic criteria: postal code in an eligible area, building constructed in 1995 or earlier, two or more units, separate electric meter for each unit, main heating powered by electricity, and property value per unit below the median for the administrative region.

  • 18 shield check
    Step 2

Choose an eligible wall-mounted heat pump

The rebate targets mini-split air-to-air wall-mounted heat pumps installed in eligible homes. The chosen model must be new, certified ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate, and suited to the actual needs of the home. The subsidy amount will be calculated based on the official capacity of the unit at -8 °C.

  • 18 shield check
    Step 3

Have the device installed by a qualified contractor

The installation must be carried out by a qualified company with the appropriate licenses, including the RBQ. The invoice must be complete, clear, and comply with LogisVert requirements: installation date, address, description of the work, model, AHRI or ENERGY STAR® reference, costs, GST/QST, and RBQ number.

  • 18 shield check
    Step 4

Submit the request on the LogisVert portal

The application must be made directly on the official LogisVert portal. Requests sent by email or by mail are not processed. You need to create or use your participation profile, fill out the online form, and upload the required supporting documents.

  • 18 shield check
    Step 5

    Waiting for Hydro-Québec's analysis

Hydro-Québec then reviews the application. If the file is incomplete or if certain elements need to be verified, Hydro-Québec may request additional documents or schedule an on-site compliance inspection. The announced processing time is generally 10 to 12 weeks from a complete application.

  • 18 shield check
    Step 6

    Receive the check by mail

Once the application is approved and the file is considered complete, the payment process is initiated. The amount of financial aid is then sent by check to the correspondence address provided in the application.

What is not acceptable

1. Building does not meet basic criteria

1. Building does not meet basic criteria

The bonus does not apply if the building is located outside an eligible area, if it was built after 1995, if the land value per dwelling exceeds the median of the administrative region, or if the main heating is not electric. The building must also have a separate electric meter for each dwelling.

2. Non-admissible locative situation

2. Non-admissible locative situation

The bonus targets owners whose tenants are responsible for their own electricity service subscription. If electricity is included in the rent or if tenants do not have their own meter, the project does not meet the requirements of the Multiresidential Bonus.

3. Equipment or work not eligible

3. Equipment or work not eligible

Non-certified ENERGY STAR® – Cold Climate heat pumps, models that are not mini-split air-to-air wall-mounted heat pumps, installations outside of living spaces, or the replacement of only one indoor or outdoor unit are not eligible. The rebate cannot be combined with the 5% Multiple Measures rebate or with any other offer from Hydro-Québec or a government agency for the same work.

Important obligations for owners

The landlord must comply with the rules of the Administrative Housing Tribunal (TAL), especially regarding the setting and increase of rents. Equipment or improvements subsidized by LogisVert cannot be included in the calculation of a rent increase. In other words, if a wall-mounted heat pump receives financial assistance under the Multihousing Bonus, the subsidized portion of the work cannot be used to justify a rent increase.

Why is this bonus attractive for owners?

Indoor parking garage with air conditioning unit installed on a concrete column. Cars parked around the area.

Modernize an older building

For owners of multiplexes and rental buildings constructed in 1995 or earlier, this bonus represents a great opportunity to modernize the building at a lower cost. Adding cold climate wall-mounted heat pumps improves the comfort of the units without having to redo the entire heating system.
