The Multiresidential Bonus is additional financial assistance from the LogisVert program intended for certain owners of multiplexes and residential buildings located in an energy poverty zone designated by Hydro-Québec. It is added to the regular subsidy for the installation of an eligible heat pump when the building, dwellings, heating method, electric meters, and installed equipment meet all the specified conditions.
This bonus is therefore not a separate program nor a subsidy automatically offered to all rental buildings. Eligibility must be verified based on the postal code, year of construction, property value per dwelling, main heating system, and electrical configuration of the building.
According to the LogisVert Participation Guide, version 1.9 of June 15, 2026, this measure stems from the 2030 Green Economy Plan and aims to facilitate access to efficient heat pumps in certain multiresidential buildings where tenants pay their own electricity bills.
A bonus that is added to the regular heat pump subsidy.
In the LogisVert program, a certified ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate heat pump can normally qualify for financial assistance calculated according to its heating capacity at –8 °C.
The Multiresidential Bonus adds an additional amount of:
$100 per 1,000 BTU/h at –8 °C.
When a project meets both the conditions of the Heat Pump measure and those of the Multiresidential Bonus, the total amount can reach:
$220 per 1,000 BTU/h at –8 °C.
This calculation is based on the recognized capacity of the certified combination, not just the commercial capacity displayed in the product name. A heat pump sold as a 12,000, 18,000, or 24,000 BTU unit may have a different capacity at –8 °C. The official amount therefore depends on the data associated with the exact system installed.
The bonus applies to installations carried out from June 15, 2026. An installation done before this date does not become retroactively eligible simply because the application is submitted after this date.
The bonus is not paid separately from the Heat Pump measure.
To qualify for the Multiresidential Bonus, the heat pump must first be eligible for the LogisVert Heat Pump measure. Therefore, a person cannot receive only the bonus if the device, installation, or documents do not meet the general program requirements.
The final amount cannot exceed 100% of the eligible purchase and installation cost of the equipment. Acceptance of the file and the final calculation are the responsibility of Hydro-Québec.
Which owners and buildings can be eligible?
The incentive is intended for the owner of the eligible dwelling. It is not intended for tenants who install a heat pump themselves in their unit.
The types of buildings targeted are:
- multiplexes;
- residential buildings with 19 units or fewer;
- residential buildings with 20 units or more.
However, simply owning a duplex, triplex, or rental building is not enough. All criteria specific to the incentive must be met.
Each tenant must be responsible for their electricity bill
The owner must possess an eligible dwelling in which each tenant holds their own electricity subscription and pays their own bill.
The building must also have a separate electric meter for each dwelling.
A building supplied by a collective meter in the owner’s name does not meet this condition, even if the owner later divides the electricity costs among the units. The actual configuration of subscriptions and meters must be confirmed before planning the project.
The building must be located in a designated zone
The building must be located in a energy poverty zone determined by Hydro-Québec. Geographic eligibility is confirmed using the postal code.
One should not assume that an entire neighborhood, municipality, or administrative region is eligible. Two buildings located in the same city can have different results depending on their postal code.
This verification is especially important for owners in Greater Montreal, including Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, and the South Shore. The presence of the building in an urban, disadvantaged, or densely populated area alone does not confirm its official eligibility.
The construction year must be 1995 or earlier
The dwelling must have been built in 1995 or earlier.
The year listed on the property assessment roll or in municipal documents can be used to verify this criterion. When a building has undergone major renovation, expansion, or conversion into housing units, it may be necessary to confirm which year Hydro-Québec considers.
The property value per dwelling must be below the regional median
The property value per dwelling must be below the median of the administrative region where the building is located.
This requirement is not based solely on the purchase price of the building, its estimated market value, or the amount of municipal taxes. Hydro-Québec requests a copy of the most recent municipal property assessment.
The applicable value must be analyzed according to the number of dwellings and the concerned administrative region. An official verification remains necessary, as median values may vary depending on the region and program terms.
The main heating must be electric.
The building must have a main electric heating system.
The presence of electric baseboards, convectors, or an electric furnace can support this eligibility, but each situation must be examined as a whole. A building primarily heated by natural gas, oil, or another fuel does not necessarily become eligible because it has some electric auxiliary devices.
The declared main heating type must correspond to the reality of the building and the information that could be verified by Hydro-Québec.
Which heat pump must be installed?
To be eligible for this bonus, the owner must have a wall-mounted mini-split air-to-air heat pump, commonly called a wall heat pump, installed in at least one eligible dwelling.
The device must be certified:
ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate.
A heat pump simply certified ENERGY STAR, but not bearing the "cold climate" designation, does not meet the specific requirement of the Multi-unit Bonus.
The complete combination must be eligible.
Eligibility must be verified for the exact combination, including notably:
- the model of the outdoor unit;
- the model(s) of the indoor units;
- the AHRI or ENERGY STAR number;
- heating capacity at –8 °C;
- ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate certification.
An entire brand or a complete range cannot be declared eligible based on a single certified model. In a multi-zone system, the indoor units and the outdoor unit must correspond to a recognized combination.
The general requirements of the Heat Pump measure continue to apply.
Unless a specific rule of the bonus replaces them, the general conditions of LogisVert for heat pumps remain applicable.
The complete system must notably:
- be new;
- be purchased in Quebec, or online from a company with an address in Quebec;
- be installed in an eligible dwelling;
- include an outdoor unit with a minimum nominal capacity of 12,000 BTU/h in cooling mode;
- serve for heating and air conditioning;
- be installed by an authorized company holding the appropriate licenses.
The company performing the work must be registered with the Quebec Enterprise Registrar, hold the appropriate licenses from the Quebec Building Authority, and be a member of the corporation corresponding to its sector of activity.
Replacing a single component, such as the outdoor unit, a coil, or an indoor unit, does not necessarily constitute a complete eligible installation. Indoor units and air distribution ducts must also not be installed outside the insulation plan, for example in an unfinished attic.
Can the bonus cover multiple dwellings?
The minimum condition requires the installation of an eligible wall-mounted heat pump in at least one eligible dwelling. However, an owner may consider a project involving several dwellings, provided that each installation and each dwelling meet the applicable conditions.
For a multiresidential project, it is advisable to document each installed system separately:
- the dwelling served;
- the indoor and outdoor models;
- the serial number;
- the recognized capacity at –8 °C;
- the certification number;
- the installation date;
- the cost attributable to the equipment and work.
An overly summary overall invoice can complicate the analysis when several devices, dwellings, or configurations are involved.
Can this bonus be combined with other financial aids?
No, the Multiresidential Bonus cannot be combined with the LogisVert bonus for multiple measures.
It also cannot be combined, for the same equipment or work, with another offer from Hydro-Québec or a government agency.
The owner must therefore check the rules of any other program before submitting their application. Other financial aid obtained for a different element of the project may require special analysis, but one should never assume that combining aid is allowed.
Hydro-Québec may refuse an application or require repayment of an amount when incompatible aid has been received for the same equipment or work.
What documents should be provided?
For the Multiresidential Bonus, Hydro-Québec specifically requires a copy of the most recent property assessment issued by the municipality.
The documents required for the Heat Pump measure must also be provided.
Proof of ownership
The applicant must generally submit an electronic copy:
- from the municipal tax account; or
- from the first page of the deed of sale or the title of ownership.
The first and last names appearing on the invoices must match those on the proof of ownership. The grant is paid to the owner of the eligible dwelling.
Purchase and installation invoice
The invoice should clearly contain:
- the invoice number and date;
- the installation date;
- the owner’s name;
- the full address of the work;
- the company name;
- the GST and QST numbers;
- the RBQ license number;
- the description of the heat pump and the work;
- the AHRI or ENERGY STAR number;
- the cost of equipment and installation;
- a confirmation showing that the invoice has been paid.
In a building with multiple units, it is strongly recommended to indicate the number of each unit and the models installed in it. This is a useful documentation practice, even when a precise wording is not presented as a separate requirement in the guide.
Photos of nameplates
A clear photo of the nameplate of each outdoor unit model must be kept. The photo must allow reading the model number and serial number.
AirGreen can prepare a detailed invoice and document the installed devices to facilitate the file preparation. However, this preparation does not replace Hydro-Québec’s analysis or approval.
How to submit an application?
The application must be submitted online through the LogisVert portal. Applications sent by email or mail are not processed.
The owner must:
- create or open their participation profile;
- complete an application for the targeted dwelling;
- provide the required documents;
- submit the application no later than nine months after installation;
- respond to any request for additional information or documents;
- allow an on-site inspection if Hydro-Québec requires it.
The nine-month period starts from the date the measure is implemented. It is best not to wait until the end of this period, as an error in the models, invoices, or supporting documents can delay processing.
The guide indicates a processing time of 10 to 12 weeks from receipt of a complete application, without guaranteeing it. An incomplete application may take longer.
Hydro-Québec may also contact the owner to visit the building and verify the compliance of the installation.
Why might a statement 27 be requested?
When a subsidy is received as part of operating a business or an income-generating property, Hydro-Québec must issue a statement 27 – Government payments.
An owner is notably considered to be earning income related to the units they do not occupy. Hydro-Québec may then request one of the following pieces of information:
- the Quebec business number;
- the QST number;
- the social insurance number.
When the social insurance number is required, secure transmission instructions are provided by Hydro-Québec after confirming the file’s eligibility.
Can the subsidy be added to the calculation of a rent increase?
The owner remains required to comply with the rent-setting rules of the Administrative Housing Tribunal.
The guide specifies that equipment or improvements that have received a LogisVert subsidy cannot be included in the calculation of a rent increase. This obligation must be taken into account in the project's financial planning.
The bonus aims to reduce the project cost for the owner and improve access to heat pumps for tenants, but it does not allow transferring the subsidized value into a rent increase.
Checks to perform before ordering the equipment
Before signing a contract or purchasing a heat pump, the owner should confirm:
- the building’s postal code;
- the recognized energy poverty zone;
- the official year of construction;
- the property value per unit;
- the legal number of units;
- the main heating system;
- the presence of a meter per unit;
- the holder of each electricity subscription;
- the ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate certification;
- the exact combination of units;
- the recognized capacity at –8 °C;
- the planned installation date;
- the rules for combining with other aids.
A technical validation is also necessary to determine the appropriate capacity, unit placement, refrigerant line routing, condensate drainage, electrical capacity, and the building’s architectural constraints.
Have a heat pump project evaluated in a multiresidential building
The LogisVert Multiresidential Bonus can significantly increase the financial aid granted for certain wall-mounted heat pumps installed in eligible rental buildings. However, it remains reserved for buildings that simultaneously meet Hydro-Québec’s geographic, property, electrical, technical, and administrative criteria.
