Four-season comfort in a bright living room: careful installation that respects space, decor and performance
Context and objectives of the project
In Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , a homeowner wanted to modernize the comfort of his Montreal home: efficient cooling in the summer , supplemental heating in the off-season, silence , more energy savings and a discreet look in a very windowed living room. We offer a new generation Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump with R-32 refrigerant , chosen for its reliability, high seasonal efficiency and cold resistance suitable for Greater Montreal .
Why a Fujitsu wall-mounted (R-32) for this living room?
-
Competitive seasonal efficiency (SEER/HSPF), inverter compressor and precise control electronics: the machine maintains a stable temperature with controlled consumption.
-
R-32 : better GWP and favorable thermodynamic performance, with reduced loads at equivalent capacity.
-
Ideal capacity for a living room (living room/dining room) typical of Montreal plexes, without oversizing which would cause short cycles or discomfort.
-
Extreme cold operation : XLTH/Altair/Orion range model (depending on the configuration chosen) compatible with our winters; perfect as a backup to the main heating system.
-
Silence : very contained acoustic profiles, both on the interior head and condenser sides, to preserve the calm of the living room.
HVAC installation procedure
1) Interior layout: aesthetics and optimal blowing
The wall head is placed high under the ceiling , centered on the section of wall between two windows. This position favors:
-
uniform airflow over the living area;
-
effective destratification in winter (hot air blown in the upper part).
We control:
-
the leveling of the unit;
-
clearances around and in front of the facade (curtains, rods, furniture, TV) so as not to disrupt air intake;
-
access for HVAC maintenance (filters, facade, deflectors).
Attention point for the living room: curtains near a wall can disrupt the recovery. We have adjusted the height and spacing to prevent any re-aspiration of the blown air (risk of short cycles, noise and reduced efficiency).
2) Drilling, wall crossing and sealing
The through- hole is made with a controlled angle towards the outside for gravity flow of the drain. Installation of a sheath to protect the insulation from the refrigeration connections, then interior/exterior caulking (compatible mastic, vapor barrier) for air and water tightness.
3) Route of external connections and finishes
Outside, the insulated copper tubes, communication cable, and condensation drain are housed in a UV-coated cap, matching the cladding. The route is short and straight to limit pressure losses and preserve the factory refrigerant charge.
4) Power supply and electrical safety
The dedicated circuit supplies power to the outdoor unit via a disconnect box within easy reach of the technician. Protection at the main panel is rated to the maximum amperage (MCA/MOP) of the installed model, with conduits and devices marked for ease of service .
5) Refrigeration procedures and commissioning
-
Nitrogen brazing , torque testing of flared fittings , nitrogen leak testing .
-
Deep vacuum (<500 microns), stabilization, then release of load according to the manufacturer's protocol.
-
Checking the intensities , blowing temperatures , over/underheating and factory settings adapted to the living area .
Result: tangible comfort and discreet integration
The customer immediately benefits from uniform cooling during hot weather and responsive heating support in autumn and spring. The interior facade remains simple : the head blends into the decor, the blowing line avoids curtains and the positioning does not encroach on the TV corner .
Technical points that make the difference
Sizing (BTU) and Air Management
-
Calculation of load on the open surface (living room + dining area), taking into account the windows and orientation.
-
Selection of a consistent wall capacity (typology 9k–12k–15k depending on volumes and solar contributions), to maintain a stable inverter regime , therefore silence and efficiency .
Condensation drain
-
Gravity with controlled slope and protected discharge point.
-
Flow and watertightness test at the end of the work.
-
Advice to the customer to avoid obstruction (dusting, seasonal checks).
Acoustics and vibrations
-
Pads on bindings, ventilation profile adjusted to Quiet mode for the evening.
-
Outside: choice of a suitable base/brackets (depending on the facade), clearances respected to limit resonance against the wall.
Longevity and cleanliness of the installation
-
Compliant bending radii , continuous insulation on the lines, stainless steel screwed UV trunking.
-
End of work documentation: photos , suction/discharge values , microns , intensities, usage advice.
Daily usage tips
Target modes and temperatures
-
Aim for 23–24°C in summer for stable comfort and controlled consumption.
-
In mid-season, leave the inverter running continuously: avoid impulsive switching on/off.
Airflow and curtains
-
Ensure that the curtains remain out of the direct flow: if necessary, adjust the vertical/horizontal sweep to bring the air towards the occupied zone.
HVAC Maintenance
-
Clean filters every 4–8 weeks (depending on dust and animals).
-
Annual inspection: evaporator , turbine , drain , contactors , tightening and capping control .
-
An AirGreen maintenance contract is available for Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , the North Shore and the South Shore .
Grants and Eligibility
High-efficiency R-32 wall-mounted heat pumps may be eligible for assistance programs (low-temperature performance criteria, certification, compliant installation). We verify eligibility based on the exact model and assist the customer with the process .
Challenges specific to a Montreal salon… and our solutions
Large windows, variable solar gains
-
Orientation analyzed to avoid hot zones near bay windows.
-
Sweep and flow settings to even out the temperature between the TV area and the dining room.
