Four-season comfort in a Montreal apartment with period charm
At AirGreen , we adapt HVAC installation to the reality of Montreal apartments: textured ceilings, original woodwork, sometimes irregular gypsum partitions and little space available above the doors. In this project in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , we installed a Gree wall-mounted heat pump from the Livo R32 range , selected for its performance, its quietness and its reliability in cold weather. The objective: to ensure stable comfort in summer and winter, without altering the charm of the place.
Why a Gree Livo R32 for this accommodation?
Gree 's Livo R32 family is ideal for compact apartments in Montreal 's central neighborhoods. Its advantages:
-
R-32 refrigerant : better efficiency and lower environmental impact than R-410A.
-
Inverter technology : fine modulation of compressor speed for reduced consumption and stable temperature.
-
Extreme cold mode : maintains heat during sub-zero episodes that are frequent on the island of Montreal .
-
Quiet operation : perfect for a bedroom or open living room.
-
Discreet display on the front, readable from a distance to check the instructions.
This range meets the criteria of the grant programs offered in Quebec for high-performance heat pumps . We assist our customers in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, and the South Shore in preparing applications when the chosen model is eligible.
Site constraints and implementation strategy
The room has several typical Rosemont features: textured ceiling , wood moldings around the openings, load-bearing wall at the back. We opted for a high position , centered on a clear section of wall, in order to optimize:
-
stratification and air intake in the upper part;
-
transverse sweeping of the flow without blowing directly onto the relaxation area;
-
maintenance access to the filter and shutter .
The clearance from the ceiling is respected to avoid any recirculation of hot air in winter and to facilitate the removal of the hood during maintenance. The proximity of a structural upright guided the fixing of the plate : we used dowels adapted to hollow areas and located an anchor on a wooden upright to secure the load.
Refrigeration and finishing
In order to maintain the aesthetics of the woodwork while maintaining a short path for the lines, we have:
-
drilled with a slight slope towards the outside to allow gravity drainage of condensation;
-
grouped copper lines , communication cable and drain in a neutral, discreet capping , which fits the angle of the wall;
-
calibrated the pipe length to stay within the factory range recommended by Gree and limit pressure losses.
The passage to the outside is through a wall leading to the rear of the building. Outside, the condenser is fixed on wall brackets with anti-vibration pads and adequate clearances for airflow and service . The installation prevents any runoff into the passage areas.
AirGreen Methodology: Precision and Sustainability
Each AirGreen installation follows a strict protocol, documented upon delivery:
-
Electrical check : circuit identification, dedicated circuit breaker and conformity of ratings.
-
Pre-brazing under nitrogen : prevention of internal oxidation of copper tubes.
-
Nitrogen pressure test and deep vacuum controlled to the micron.
-
Commissioning according to manufacturer parameters: load compensation if necessary (length/height), control of currents , superheating and subcooling .
-
Configuration of modes (heating, air conditioning, dehumidification), adjustment of shutters and calibration of the setpoint for a comfortable flow without drafts.
We record everything in a service sheet given to the customer: pressure values, electrical measurements, serial numbers, installation photos. This traceability facilitates annual HVAC maintenance and warranty.
Comfort and acoustics in everyday life
The choice of wall-mounted heat pump in an apartment is mainly measured by use:
-
Reduced noise level from the indoor unit: conversation and sleep preserved.
-
Even temperature distribution thanks to automatic scanning .
-
Programmed night mode which adapts the setting without perceptible variations.
-
Effective dehumidification during heat waves, a recurring issue in Montreal .
We always make the customer aware of the importance of cleaning the filters (gentle suction or rinsing), clearing the space in front of the machine and scheduling periodic maintenance : cleaning the coil, checking the electrical connections, checking the drain.
Estimation of loads and sizing
In this medium-sized dwelling with insulation typical of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie plexes, a 12,000 BTU rating from the Livo R32 range is often appropriate for a large open-plan room with an adjoining kitchen; the bedrooms can be covered by diffusion if the doors remain open, or by a second head if required. Our team always checks:
-
orientation and solar gains ;
-
the level of insulation and the sealing of the windows;
-
the occupation and load of internal devices.
This calculation guarantees the balance between efficiency , silence and longevity of the compressor .
Points to watch out for in an old apartment
-
Ceiling clearance : avoid gluing the unit; a minimum margin ensures good air intake and facilitates maintenance.
-
Controlled drilling : locate wires and studs, protect historic moldings .
-
Drain : favor gravity ; if not possible, provide an accessible and silent condensate pump .
-
Vibrations : Use buffers and tighten to the recommended torque to avoid resonances on light walls.
-
Exterior sound management : distance from neighboring windows, fan orientation, and programmed silent mode .
Result: immediate comfort and optimized energy bill
After commissioning , the room benefits from a stable temperature with a clear setpoint visible on the front. The user quickly observes:
-
a reduction in consumption thanks to inverter modulation;
-
better controlled humidity levels in summer;
-
efficient additional heating in the heart of winter, complementary to existing systems.
The fine adjustments made by our technicians allow you to take advantage of all the useful functions (automatic ventilation, restart after failure, anti-cold mode).
AirGreen Service in Greater Montreal
Our team covers Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , the North Shore and the South Shore . We support each household in:
-
the choice of power and the appropriate range (Livo R32, Vireo R32, etc.);
-
construction site planning to limit the impact on daily life;
-
the preparation of documents useful for subsidies when applicable;
-
the implementation of an annual maintenance plan to maintain performance over time.
Usage advice provided to the customer
-
Maintain a stable setpoint (minimal difference between day and night) to take advantage of the inverter.
-
Keep 1 m clear in front of the wall head facade.
-
Clean filters every 4 to 8 weeks depending on usage.
-
Have the installation checked once a year : deep cleaning, refrigeration and electrical checks.
-
In winter, leave the indoor unit running continuously at low speed to avoid short cycling.
This HVAC installation in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie illustrates our approach: clean installation , respect for the building , measured performance and customer follow-up . A well-sized Gree wall-mounted heat pump transforms the comfort of a Montreal apartment while controlling the energy bill.
