Installation of a Midea28 wall-mounted heat pump in Chomedey (Laval)

The comfort of a third-floor apartment requires impeccable HVAC installation . Here, we're installing a Midea28 wall-mounted heat pump (R-454B, −30°C) on the brick facade of a residential building in Chomedey, coordinating motorized access, structural anchors, and finishes specific to a condominium.

A high-rise construction site, mastered from the first attempt

Access to the façade is via a spider lift, allowing work to be carried out at a height of nearly 10 m above the ground, without disturbing the parking lot or tenants. Our team secures the perimeter, anchors the walls in the brick with chemical resin, and installs galvanized wall brackets with anti-vibration pads to protect the masonry and reduce noise transmission.

What we install

  • Midea28 R-454B outdoor unit (extreme cold −30°C ), quiet and designed for the climate of Greater Montreal .

  • 12,000 BTU indoor wall head suitable for an open living area of approximately 450–650 sq. ft.

  • High density insulated 1/4–3/8 copper refrigerant lines, effective length ~7–9 m due to height and discreet routing.

  • Brown-beige formwork (capping) to blend the connections into the wood/brick relief.

  • Gravity drain with weather stripping; no condensate pump required thanks to the height and direct outlet to the outside.

  • External disconnect switch and dedicated 240 V circuit (15 A) protected at the panel, in accordance with the Quebec Electrical Code.

Why the Midea28 for Laval

  • New generation R-454B refrigerant, reducing the environmental footprint.

  • High seasonal efficiency and stable performance in extreme cold, ideal for Laval , Montreal , Longueuil , North Shore and South Shore .

  • Optimized defrosting, useful when the unit is installed high up, sheltered from snow banks, but exposed to the wind.

Key steps of our AirGreen method

1) Survey and passage plan

Identification of partitions, location of studs, electrical outlets and clear paths to avoid water pipes and ventilation stacks. We validate the required clearances around the condenser (supply and return) and the point of drilling through the brick (controlled diameter, vapor barrier and sealing with polyurethane mastic).

2) Durable anchors and supports

The brackets are sized for load and wind resistance. Stainless steel anchors with sieve and resin; installation of an anti-vibration mat under the unit; minimum slope for frost dripping during defrost cycles.

3) Refrigeration connections and sealing

Controlled bending, nitrogen brazing, nitrogen testing then deep vacuum (< 500 microns) with strength test. Continuous insulation, butyl tape in the capping to prevent water and air ingress.

4) Power supply and protections

Install a disconnect switch within easy reach, UV-rated outdoor cable, waterproof cable glands. At the panel: double-pole circuit breaker, circuit identification and voltage drop measurement.

5) Commissioning and fine adjustments

After opening the valves, we check superheat/subcooling, sensors, dampers, and airflow. We calibrate the setpoint to limit short cycles, explain filter maintenance, and schedule annual HVAC maintenance (exchanger cleaning, insulation testing, condensate check).

Site constraints and solutions provided

  • Height and safety : marked perimeter, basket stabilized on four supports, weather checked to avoid gusts.

  • Mixed brick/wood facade : choice of matching capping and a compact path for a discreet finish.

  • Occupied building : drilling at agreed times, HEPA vacuum cleaners to limit dust and sound level meter to check the night-time impact on adjacent dwellings.

Result for the customer

The living space quickly reaches the setpoint, with a contained noise level both inside and outside. For heating, the Midea28 easily covers the mid-season and withstands winter cold, while reducing the energy bill compared to electric baseboard heaters. The installation respects the clearances, masonry, and aesthetics of the condominium.

AirGreen Expert Advice for Brick Buildings

  • Favor structural anchors with resin and screen in the joints, never on fragile or crumbling brick.

  • Plan the angle of the drain when tracing to maintain gravity; a pump is a last resort on the facade.

  • Limit the length of lines : the shorter it is, the more stable the yield; group the drilling, head and condenser on the same axis.

  • Anticipate future access : clearances for maintenance, capping path not obstructed by gutters or cables.

  • Plan the power supply : dedicated circuit to the panel, clear marking and disconnector accessible to the technician.

Maintenance and warranties

Annual HVAC maintenance extends the lifespan: chemical cleaning of the evaporator, checking fans, tightening connections, inspecting supports and sealing. Manufacturer warranties apply in full when maintenance is documented and the installation complies with industry standards.

And what about subsidies?

Depending on the programs in effect, a high-efficiency heat pump installed by a licensed contractor may be eligible for financial assistance. We guide our clients in Greater Montreal (Montreal, Laval , Longueuil , North Shore , South Shore ) to prepare files and maximize savings.
