Generic diagram: wall-mounted heat pump, indoor and outdoor units

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

  1. Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.

  2. The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.

  3. Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.

  4. A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.

  5. The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.

  6. On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.

  7. The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.

A Seamless Blend of Efficiency and Innovation for Montreal Winters

At AirGreen, we pride ourselves on delivering top-tier HVAC solutions that go beyond expectations. Our recent installation of a Gree Extreme 9,000 BTU Mini Split in Saint-Laurent, Montréal, is a shining example of how technology meets functionality, tailored for the harsh Canadian climate. This sleek unit, part of Gree's cutting-edge line, is not just another mini split—it’s a perfect match for both modern homes and the demanding winters we face in Montréal.

Why Choose the Gree Extreme?

The Gree Extreme Ultra Heat 9,000 BTU model is designed to handle extreme cold, making it a top choice for customers across Greater Montreal. This unit doesn’t just perform well—it excels, maintaining its heating capabilities down to -30°C, a feature few systems can match. The powerful combination of energy efficiency, high performance, and sleek design makes it a standout option for homeowners looking to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Features at a Glance:

  • Cooling Capacity: 9,000 BTU
  • Heating Capacity: Works efficiently down to -30°C
  • Sound Pressure Levels: Ultra-quiet operation at just 19 dB(A) indoors and 53 dB(A) outdoors
  • Energy Efficiency: A remarkable 38.0 SEER rating, making it eligible for various government grants
  • Warranty: Full 10-year coverage on parts, compressor, and labor—setting a new standard in the industry.

The Installation Process: Tailored Precision for Every Home

The installation process was carried out in a Saint-Laurent residence, where space and aesthetic integration were essential. We mounted the outdoor compressor unit securely on the exterior wall using durable brackets. Special care was taken to ensure that the piping was neatly concealed, blending seamlessly with the home’s exterior, and the electrical wiring was routed for both functionality and appearance.

This model’s compact dimensions made it easy to install without compromising on power or efficiency. The indoor unit measured just 38.19 x 8.86 x 11.81 inches, ensuring it fits into any room without overwhelming the space. The exterior unit, measuring 35.38 x 14.88 x 23.5 inches, was equally compact, ensuring that it did not detract from the overall look of the home.

A Grant-Eligible Mini Split: Save More with LogisVert

One of the most exciting aspects of this installation is the $400 LogisVert Grant offered by Hydro-Québec, which makes the Gree Extreme not only a superior technical choice but a financially savvy one as well. This unit is also Energy Star® certified, making it eligible for additional federal and provincial grants, bringing the total savings up to $5,600. These grants are available across the Greater Montreal area, including Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, and the South Shore.

Gree’s Unique Technology: Built for Comfort, Designed for Savings

Intelligent Defrosting for Maximum Efficiency

One of the standout features of the Gree Extreme is its intelligent compressor defrosting system. This technology ensures that the compressor only defrosts when necessary, which not only saves energy but also extends the life of the unit. This is particularly important during Montréal’s brutal winters, where efficiency can make a big difference in your monthly heating bills.

G10 Inverter Technology: Efficiency at its Finest

At the heart of the Gree Extreme 9,000 BTU Mini Split is the innovative G10 Inverter Technology, which allows the unit to maintain the desired temperature with minimal fluctuations, reducing energy consumption significantly. This means fewer starts and stops for the compressor, translating to longer equipment life and less wear and tear on the system. This inverter technology is especially valuable for homes in colder climates like Montreal, as it ensures that the unit maintains efficiency even when temperatures plummet.

Wi-Fi Control for Modern Living

With Wi-Fi capability included, this Gree Extreme model offers homeowners complete control over their heating and cooling systems from anywhere in the world. Whether you're at home or on the go, you can adjust the settings through the Gree+ app to ensure that your home is always at the perfect temperature. This feature not only adds convenience but also helps you save on energy costs by allowing you to manage your HVAC system more efficiently.

Performance Beyond the Numbers: Real-World Comfort

The Gree Extreme 9,000 BTU Mini Split doesn’t just perform on paper—it delivers real-world comfort. For the homeowners in Saint-Laurent, this installation provided immediate results. Thanks to the turbo mode, the house reached the desired temperature in record time, ensuring that the family stayed warm despite the cold weather setting in. The four-direction motorized louvers also played a significant role in maximizing comfort, distributing air evenly throughout the room, both horizontally and vertically.

Our team at AirGreen always ensures that every installation is carried out to the highest standards, and this project was no exception. From the initial consultation to the final installation, we worked closely with the homeowners to ensure that the system met all of their heating and cooling needs. Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about this kind of work

    12 questions
Does a wall-mounted heat pump heat in winter?
Yes, it heats and cools. Its capacity drops in very cold weather; the operating range depends on the model and is listed on its spec sheet.
    Wall-mounted or multi-zone: how do I choose?
One wall head and one condenser outside: the direct solution for a room or an open area. For two to five rooms, a multi-zone puts one head in each room on a single condenser.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
Where it stays above the snow, clear and accessible, away from walkways. We decide it with you during the estimate.
    Are there grants?
Depending on the model and your situation, assistance programs may apply, including Hydro-Québec's LogisVert. AirGreen checks the model number before quoting an amount. See the grants.
    Do I need a permit?
Rules vary from city to city: location, distances, noise. See permits and by-laws, and we check for your address.
    How cold can it heat?
It depends on the model. According to Hydro-Québec, newer models work down to a temperature between −15 °C and −25 °C, and some cold-climate models are certified lower. The minimum temperature is on each unit's spec sheet.
    How much can I save?
Hydro-Québec says a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months. The result depends on the house, the climate and how it is used.
How is the LogisVert assistance calculated?
For ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified heat pumps, Hydro-Québec lists assistance of $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at −8 °C. AirGreen checks the exact model before quoting an amount; only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted. See the grants.
    Is it noisy?
The sound level depends on the model and is listed in decibels on each unit's spec sheet. Location matters too: when possible, we avoid putting the outdoor unit under a bedroom window.
The outdoor unit is covered in ice: is that normal?
Some frost is: the unit runs defrost cycles. Never hit the ice. If the unit stays iced up or stops heating, call us.
Does AirGreen hold the required licences?
Yes. AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, subclasses 15.8 Ventilation, 15.10 Refrigeration and 16 Electricity.
    Is the estimate free?
Yes. The on-site estimate is free and the quote follows within 24 hours. Book my free estimate.
