A sustainable heating and air conditioning solution adapted to Montreal winters
At AirGreen , we regularly meet with single-family homeowners in Ahuntsic-Cartierville who want to improve their comfort while reducing their energy bills. In this project, our team installed a Sharp Eco Inverter wall-mounted heat pump with Plasmacluster Ion technology, perfectly suited to the needs of a family living in a residential area of Montreal where winters are harsh and summers are increasingly hot.
Choosing a Sharp Eco Inverter Heat Pump
The Sharp brand is known for its integrated air purification technologies and optimized energy efficiency. The Eco Inverter series offers reliable heating capacity down to low winter temperatures, making it eligible for energy-saving grant programs in Quebec . Among its benefits:
-
Plasmacluster Ion Technology : Improves indoor air quality by neutralizing certain particles and pollutants.
-
Inverter Compressor : Automatically adjusts power to maintain a stable temperature while reducing electricity consumption.
-
Compact design : facilitates integration both outdoors and indoors, even in cramped residential environments.
Installation details
This installation was carried out on a typical red brick house in the area. We chose a wall-mounted mounting system , which allows the outdoor unit to be kept high up to protect it from snow and ice build-up. Condensate is drained by gravity, eliminating the need for an additional pump.
The refrigerant piping and electrical wiring were carefully concealed using discreet white capping , resistant to UV and winter conditions. The installation includes:
-
15 feet of standard piping between the indoor unit and the outdoor compressor.
-
15 feet of electrical wiring connecting the compressor to the main panel of the house.
-
A precisely made brick hole , ensuring complete insulation against air and moisture.
Challenges encountered and solutions provided
The installation took place in the middle of winter, which always presents a particular challenge for HVAC technicians: snow on the ground, sub-zero temperatures, and the risk of frozen condensation. To ensure equipment reliability:
-
We have carried out a secure clearance around the outdoor unit , ensuring optimal air circulation.
-
A solid galvanized steel bracket was fixed directly to the brick wall to prevent any sagging due to freeze-thaw.
-
A leak test and a complete performance test were carried out, confirming the system's efficiency even at low temperatures.
Comfort and savings for occupants
Thanks to this installation, occupants now benefit from:
-
4-season comfort : efficient heating down to -25°C and efficient air conditioning in summer.
-
A significant reduction in electricity costs , compared to old pure electric heating systems.
-
Improved air quality , a valuable asset for a family sensitive to allergies and urban pollution.
