A clean and durable exterior installation on brackets, for four-season comfort
At AirGreen , we have just installed a Sharp Eco Inverter wall-mounted heat pump in a Brossard home. The goal: to provide efficient air conditioning in the summer and stable supplemental heating during the off-season, with a neat and easy-to-maintain exterior finish. The chosen layout combines sturdy wall brackets , high-quality vertical line covers , and a short refrigeration path to maximize the system's performance and longevity.
Project context and owner expectations
The client wanted a solution:
-
compact on the outside and visually discreet ;
-
silent inside;
-
capable of finely modulating power according to demand;
-
designed for the South Shore winter (snow, ice, winds) and easy to maintain.
We offer a heat pump from Sharp's Eco Inverter range , renowned for its temperature stability and low half-load consumption. The indoor head, equipped with Plasmacluster technology, improves air quality during air conditioning periods, while the variable-speed DC compressor manages heat spikes while limiting noise.
Outdoor installation: stability, clearances and silence
The outdoor unit is mounted on two galvanized brackets on the wall, at a height calculated to remain above the accumulation of snow and free the defrost drain in winter. Under each foot, we place anti-vibration pads to reduce structure-borne noise.
Clearances around the exchange facade are respected to ensure unobstructed airflow , essential for air conditioning performance and defrosting in heating. The orientation of the unit limits hot air recirculation and exposure to prevailing winds.
Vertical line cover and waterproof crossing: a route designed to last
The rigid line cover (grey colour, matching the exterior covering ) protects:
-
continuously insulated copper pipes (closed cell foam, UV protection);
-
the communication/power cable attached to the harness;
-
the condensate drain of the indoor unit, installed by gravity with a controlled slope.
The wall penetration is made with a single hole and sealed with a compatible sealant to ensure air and water tightness. On the outside, clean collars finish the hole; on the inside, the outlet is concealed by white capping if necessary to maintain a sober finish and accessible to the service.
Power supply and compliance
For safety and maintenance, we plan:
-
a dedicated circuit from the main panel, sized according to the nameplate;
-
an external disconnector near the condenser for interventions;
-
compliant grounding and loop management to limit interference.
This approach complies with the Code and manufacturer specifications, while making HVAC maintenance operations simple and quick.
Commissioning: our AirGreen quality protocol
We follow a rigorous protocol to guarantee the reliability of the refrigeration circuit:
-
Brazing under nitrogen and pressure testing with dry nitrogen to validate the absence of leaks.
-
Deep vacuum (≤ 500 microns) and lift test to remove moisture and non-condensables.
-
Load adjustment to weight based on actual link length as prescribed by Sharp.
-
Functional controls in air conditioning and heating: intensities, supply/return temperatures, modulation stability, and sound level verification in normal and night modes.
-
User settings : shutter limits, timer, Eco/Quiet modes, instructions adapted to household habits.
Results: tangible comfort, controlled aesthetics
-
Rapid cooling of the living area in summer and regular additional heating in spring/autumn;
-
Perceptible silence thanks to Inverter modulation and anti-vibration supports;
-
Clean exterior finish : straight line covers, clean collars, treated screws;
-
Clear service access : valves and disconnector accessible without complex disassembly.
Sizing: efficiency before excess
We size the capacity according to:
-
of the surface and volume to be treated;
-
insulation and solar gains (exposure and windows);
-
of the occupation profile .
For a typical day area, the 9,000–12,000 BTU/h range is often optimal. A properly sized unit avoids short cycles, reduces consumption and stabilizes the temperature .
Condensate and winter management
In summer, the indoor unit's gravity drain follows a continuous slope and includes an anti-siphon when required. In winter, the condenser generates defrost water: the installation on brackets allows free flow, away from passageways, and limits the formation of ice at the base of the wall. We provide the customer with winter instructions (minimum clearance, monitoring after storms, gentle restarts).
Preventive maintenance: maintaining performance season after season
Annual HVAC maintenance maintains performance and extends lifespan:
-
cleaning the filters and dusting the evaporator;
-
gentle condenser washing and fin check;
-
electrical check (tightening, currents), condensate test, inspection of the line cover (UV, abrasions);
-
update settings if necessary.
Between visits, we recommend keeping the outdoor area clear and rinsing the filters during periods of heavy use.
Common Mistakes Avoided by AirGreen
-
Lack of slope on the interior drain: source of odors and backflows — we systematically check it at the level.
-
Too tight bending radii on the connections: losses and risk of noise — we respect the bending guides.
-
Unsealed penetrations : air/water infiltration — our penetrations are sealed and dressed.
-
Electrical undersizing : heating and tripping — the rating of the circuit breaker and conductors follows the manufacturer's plate.
