Installation of a SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump in Montreal
Experience the ultimate comfort and energy efficiency with the SHARP ZU1 Heat Pump, installed in Montreal by AirGreen. Perfect for extreme climates and eligible for a $2,640 LogisVert grant!

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
A Cutting-Edge Solution for Heating and Cooling in the Heart of Montreal
At AirGreen, we are proud to showcase our latest project: the installation of the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump in Montreal. This exceptional unit brings advanced technology, energy efficiency, and year-round comfort to our clients. Let us walk you through the details of this installation and why the SHARP ZU1 stands out as a top choice for homes across Quebec.
A Peek into the Installation Story
This recent project brought us to a charming property in Montreal where our client sought a robust and energy-efficient heating and cooling solution to combat Quebec's harsh winters and humid summers. After careful assessment, we recommended the SHARP ZU1 Wall-Mounted Heat Pump, a high-performing model with an 18,000 BTU capacity, built to handle temperatures as low as -27°C. Our goal was to ensure maximum efficiency, comfort, and sustainability for this home.
The installation involved careful planning and execution. The exterior compressor was mounted securely on a durable platform on the rooftop, ensuring stability and optimal performance even in extreme weather conditions. The indoor unit, with its sleek design and compact dimensions (41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches), was installed strategically to provide uniform airflow throughout the living space.

Why the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump is a Game-Changer
Unparalleled Heating and Cooling Performance
- 18,000 BTU Capacity: Powerful enough to handle large spaces with ease, whether you need cooling during summer or heating in the depths of winter.
- Extreme Cold Weather Performance: Designed to maintain full heating efficiency at temperatures as low as -27°C, making it ideal for Quebec’s frigid climate.
Energy Efficiency
- Efficiency Rating: A remarkable 24.0 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ensures low energy consumption and significant savings on electricity bills.
- R-32 Refrigerant: The SHARP ZU1 uses the environmentally friendly R-32 refrigerant, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and cuts down on energy use by up to 10%.
Whisper-Quiet Operation
- Interior Unit Noise Level: With a sound pressure level as low as 25 dB(A), the indoor unit operates almost silently, providing uninterrupted comfort.
- Exterior Unit Noise Level: At just 52 dB(A), the outdoor unit minimizes noise disturbances for both homeowners and neighbors.
Advanced Technology
- Plasmacluster Technology: This unique feature purifies the air by eliminating airborne bacteria, viruses, and allergens while neutralizing odors and mold, ensuring a healthier indoor environment.
- Coanda Airflow Control: Inspired by natural fluid dynamics, this feature ensures uniform temperature distribution without blowing air directly onto occupants.
Smart Connectivity
The SHARP ZU1 comes equipped with built-in WiFi, enabling seamless control through a smartphone app. With real-time monitoring of energy consumption, temperature, and humidity, homeowners can optimize their settings for maximum efficiency.
The Installation Process: Precision and Care
Our team began by evaluating the client’s home layout and energy requirements to determine the optimal placement for both the indoor and outdoor units. The outdoor compressor, measuring 33.47 x 13 x 27.94 inches, was securely installed on a rooftop platform using anti-vibration mounts to ensure stability and noise reduction.
For the indoor unit, we selected a central location to maximize airflow efficiency and room coverage. The installation included:
- Professional-grade insulation and piping to prevent energy loss.
- A thorough electrical setup using the unit’s 220V voltage requirement, ensuring compatibility and safety.
- Calibration of the system to optimize performance, including testing its heating and cooling capacities across different settings.
Unlocking Benefits: The $2,640 LogisVert Grant
One of the standout advantages of the SHARP ZU1 is its eligibility for the highest LogisVert grant offered by Hydro-Québec. Homeowners can receive up to $2,640 in financial support for choosing this energy-efficient solution, making it an economical and environmentally responsible choice.
Client Feedback: Comfort Redefined
Our client was thrilled with the results, particularly the even temperature distribution achieved through the Coanda airflow and the cleaner, fresher air provided by Plasmacluster technology. The SHARP ZU1 exceeded their expectations, delivering unmatched comfort and efficiency.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

At −27 °C, its certified minimum capacity is 3,200 BTU/h (5,500 at 8 °C). It slows down instead of cycling on and off.
According to NEEP, its certified heating capacity at −15 °C (5 °F) is 19,000 BTU/h, 79% of its nominal 24,000 BTU size. Its COP there is 2.20.
Data read live from the airgreen.ca page of each size (NEEP / AHRI certified performance). When the title names the installed size, it is highlighted; otherwise the whole range is shown. The aid shown is today’s, using Hydro-Québec’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C); amounts quoted in the article date from its publication. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.
And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
