In the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension neighbourhood, many apartments open directly onto alleyways lined with brick walls and electrical wires. This type of building, typical of Montreal, can become very hot in the summer and difficult to heat evenly in the winter. It was in this context that our AirGreen team installed a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in the living room of a bright apartment overlooking the backyard.
The need: year-round comfort in a sun-exposed dwelling
The main room has a large window overlooking a brick wall and a utility pole in the backyard. In summer, this orientation results in:
-
Intense heat accumulates in the brick and radiates inwards.
-
Abundant sunlight , contributing to raising the living room temperature
In winter, on the other hand, the large glazed area creates a feeling of cold and drafts near the window, despite the presence of basic electric heating.
The client wanted:
-
Efficient and quiet air conditioning for heatwave periods
-
More even and economical heating in winter
-
A solution that integrates seamlessly into the decor without losing living space.
Choosing a Gree wall-mounted heat pump
We recommended a Gree high-efficiency wall-mounted heat pump, approximately 12,000 BTU , perfectly suited to the size of the open-plan living area (living room + dining room).
The advantages of this solution:
-
2-in-1 function : heating and air conditioning with the same device
-
Gree inverter technology , which continuously modulates power for stable comfort
-
Excellent performance/consumption ratio , ideal for reducing electricity bills
-
Reduced noise levels , both indoors and outdoors, which is essential in a dense urban environment
This heat pump quickly becomes the main source of comfort, with the electric baseboard heaters remaining as a backup.
A thoughtfully designed interior installation above the window
The photo shows the Gree wall-mounted head installed high up, just above the large window . This positioning is strategic.
Optimal air distribution
Positioned near the ceiling, the heat pump:
-
Let the cool air naturally descend into the room in summer
-
Allows warm air to be distributed evenly throughout the living area in winter
-
Avoid blowing directly on seated occupants, which increases comfort.
The proximity of the window also helps to break the cold wall effect in winter and to better control heat gain in summer.
Aesthetic integration
We have ensured that:
-
Center the device in relation to the opening for a balanced appearance
-
Respect the existing moldings and frame in order to preserve the character of the apartment.
-
Conceal the refrigeration lines within the wall for a clean and discreet finish.
The result: the Gree unit blends naturally into the decor, without visually overloading the room.
Technical details of the installation
As with all our AirGreen installations, several technical steps ensure the performance and reliability of the system.
-
Wall structure check : location of studs, check for solidity to securely anchor the interior support.
-
Careful drilling outwards behind the wall-mounted head, in order to pass:
-
Refrigerant tubes
-
The communication cable
-
The condensation drain
-
-
The slope of the drain is carefully respected so that the water flows outwards, avoiding any trace of interior moisture.
-
Refrigeration connection according to good practices: flaring, tightening torque, complete vacuuming and pressure test to guarantee the tightness of the circuit.
-
Electrical connection on a dedicated circuit, with a suitable circuit breaker and compliance with current standards.
After these steps, we proceed with commissioning : starting in air conditioning mode then in heating mode, checking temperatures and pressures, adjusting parameters as needed.
A concrete response to the realities of Montreal's climate
Thanks to this Gree wall-mounted heat pump , the customer now benefits from:
-
A cool and pleasant living room in summer , even on sweltering days when the exterior brick absorbs a lot of heat
-
Gentle and constant heating in winter , without sudden temperature changes
-
More comfortable air, less humid in summer and better distributed throughout the living area
The Gree remote control allows you to choose the mode (heating, cooling, dehumidifying, ventilation), set the desired temperature and program schedules, which further promotes energy savings.
AirGreen support in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension and throughout Montreal
Beyond installation, we support the client on:
-
Usage reflexes to maximize performance (set temperature, open doors between rooms, auto vs manual mode).
-
The recommended maintenance schedule : regular cleaning of filters, inspection of the outdoor unit, checking of parameters every few years.
-
The possibilities for subsidies and energy efficiency programs when the heat pump is eligible.
Whether you are in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, Rosemont, Le Sud-Ouest or elsewhere in Greater Montreal, our AirGreen team is here to design and install a Gree wall-mounted heat pump solution perfectly suited to your home and lifestyle.
