In LaSalle, many homeowners want to make their basement or family room as comfortable as the rest of the house. This was exactly the case in this residence where the main basement room was cold in winter, stifling in summer, and difficult to heat with electric baseboard heaters alone.
Our AirGreen team therefore recommended the installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump , a four-season solution perfectly suited to this type of space: relatively low ceiling, clear walls and the presence of furniture near the partitions.
A targeted comfort project for the basement
The family room is used as both a relaxation area and a workspace. It features a large tabletop and storage space, making air quality and temperature particularly important for everyday comfort.
The client's objectives were clear:
-
eliminate the feeling of cold in the basement during winter;
-
to enjoy fresh, dry air during heat waves;
-
maintain a calm environment, without excessive noise;
-
minimize the visual impact of the device on the main wall.
A Gree wall-mounted heat pump meets these needs perfectly by combining heating, cooling and dehumidification in a single compact unit.
A new generation Gree wall-mounted heat pump
We installed a new generation Gree wall-mounted heat pump , with a capacity suited to the size of the family room (approximately 12,000 BTU). This type of heat pump uses an inverter compressor, which continuously adjusts its power rather than simply "opening" and "closing" like a traditional unit.
In practical terms, this means:
-
a stable temperature , without sudden variations;
-
reduced electricity consumption , since the machine runs more often at low speed;
-
a very low noise level , ideal for watching a movie, working or letting children play without being disturbed.
The discreet digital display on the front – clearly visible in the photo – allows you to check the set temperature at a glance, while the remote control offers precise control of the modes and fan speed.
Installation details: Neat integration on a clear wall
The Gree wall-mounted head was installed high up, near the ceiling, on a largely unobstructed wall. This positioning was chosen for several technical and practical reasons:
-
optimize air circulation : the air blown by the heat pump gradually descends into the room, ensuring a uniform distribution of heat or coolness;
-
avoid blowing directly on the occupants seated at the table;
-
maintain sufficient clearance around the unit for maintenance and to comply with the manufacturer's recommendations.
We also noted the presence of a smoke detector on the ceiling nearby. We verified that the airflow did not interfere with its operation and that the safety clearances were respected.
Behind the unit, an opening to the outside allows for the passage of refrigerant lines and the condensate drain. On the exterior, these lines are protected by a cover and connected to the Gree condensing unit, which is installed on a stable base or slab, sheltered from snow accumulation as much as possible. The drain is routed in such a way as to remove water cleanly, without dripping onto the flooring.
The overall result is a clean and simple installation: the heat pump becomes an element integrated into the wall, without visible cables or unsightly accessories.
Four-season comfort in Montreal's climate
In LaSalle, as elsewhere in Greater Montreal, the weather puts heating and air conditioning systems to the test: damp cold in January, oppressive heat in July. The Gree wall-mounted heat pump offers an effective solution to these variations.
-
In heating mode , it recovers heat from the outside air and transfers it inside, even at low temperatures, which is much more efficient than simple direct electric heating. The family room heats up very quickly, making it usable early in the morning or late in the evening without having to overheat the rest of the house.
-
In cooling mode , the Gree heat pump cools the room while removing excess humidity, providing a feeling of comfort far superior to that of a simple fan or portable air conditioner.
-
In dehumidification mode , it helps keep the basement dry, limiting the risk of mold and improving air quality.
Thanks to power modulation, the device avoids frequent on/off cycles, which increases its lifespan while improving acoustic comfort.
Energy efficiency and savings for the homeowner
Switching to a Gree wall-mounted heat pump is also a smart, cost-effective choice . By replacing or reducing the load on baseboard heaters in the basement, the unit helps lower your Hydro-Québec bill over the year.
The owner thus benefits:
-
of better energy efficiency for each kWh consumed;
-
of a basement that is actually usable all year round, which increases the value of the house;
-
of a modern system, compatible with current expectations in terms of comfort and performance.
During commissioning, we assisted the client with basic programming: comfort temperatures, night mode, advice for optimal use according to the season, and a reminder about periodic filter cleaning .
