In this large brick building in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood, condo owners wanted to finally enjoy true year-round comfort without cluttering the interior or disturbing the neighbours. They called on our team to install a Gree Inverter wall-mounted heat pump on their balcony, an ideal solution for upper-floor units.
Context: a high-rise condo, a balcony to optimize
The building is typical of the neighborhood: brick facade, concrete balconies, and an unobstructed view of the surrounding institutional buildings and trees. The condo has a concrete balcony with a solid railing, deep enough to accommodate furniture… but there's no question of turning it into a utility room.
Our objectives were clear:

Inside, the system consists of a discreet wall unit that heats and cools the main living area of the condo (living room, dining room, and open-plan kitchen). Outside, there is a single-zone Gree Inverter condenser , perfectly suited to the size of a 3½ or 4½ apartment.

Installation details on the balcony
The photo shows the Gree condenser installed against the brick wall, on a raised aluminum support , itself securely anchored in the concrete slab of the balcony.
Vibration stabilization and management
We chose a metal support:

to raise the unit and protect it from rainwater and snow that may accumulate on the balcony;

to allow continuous airflow under the device;
-
to limit the transmission of vibrations in the structure, thanks to feet equipped with anti-vibration pads and calibrated tightening.
Result: the unit remains stable, silent and does not transmit any nuisance to the neighbors above or below.
Compliance with clearances and air circulation
The balcony is surrounded by concrete walls. It was therefore essential to:

respect the lateral and frontal clearances recommended by Gree to avoid any recirculation of hot air;
-
position the unit at a sufficient distance from the door and windows so as not to obstruct traffic or outdoor furniture;

Orient the machine to take full advantage of the balcony opening, so that the air can be freely renewed.
This attention to detail ensures optimal performance, both in air conditioning in the summer and in heating in the winter.
Drainage and defrosting management
On the ground, a slightly different area is visible in the slab, corresponding to a former drainage point. We took advantage of this location to:

promote the flow of condensation and defrost water towards the lowest point of the balcony;

prevent water from stagnating under the device and forming ice in winter;
-
maintain a safe circulation area for occupants.
Aesthetic integration and compliance in co-ownership
In a condo, aesthetics and compliance with building regulations are paramount. For this project:

The refrigeration lines and electrical cable are grouped together and protected in a sheath running along the brick wall, with a clean and sealed wall penetration;
-
the condenser is placed behind the solid guardrail, making it virtually invisible from the street , while remaining accessible for maintenance;
-
The installation complies with the usual requirements of condominium associations: neutral color, no anchoring in the railings, respect for emergency exits and permissible weights on the balcony.
We have obviously provided a dedicated circuit breaker and a means of switching off nearby, in accordance with the electrical code and the manufacturer's recommendations.
