Installation of a Midea wall-mounted heat pump in Sainte-Julie

A meticulous installation in a garage transformed into living space

At AirGreen , we know that a successful HVAC installation depends not only on the choice of machine, but above all on the quality of the technical work . This project in Sainte-Julie , on the South Shore of Montreal, perfectly illustrates our rigor. The client had just transformed his garage into a heated and air-conditioned workshop and wanted to install a Midea wall-mounted heat pump , a model known for its reliability and energy efficiency.

Preparation and initial inspection

First of all, our team evaluated:

  • Garage insulation;

  • Optimal positioning of the indoor unit for uniform air diffusion ;

  • And the location of the external compressor to limit noise pollution and facilitate future maintenance.

Once the thermal calculations were confirmed, we validated that the 12,000 BTU capacity of the Midea heat pump perfectly met the needs of this 28 m² room.

Key steps of installation

1. Fixing and preparing the wall unit

The indoor unit was mounted on a side wall at a precise height of 2.1 meters to ensure even airflow . We used a reinforced wall bracket , screwed into the studs, to ensure stability and prevent any vibration.

2. Connecting the refrigeration circuit

In the photo above, we can see the insulated copper pipes :

  • The suction tube (wider) and

  • The liquid tube (thinner),
    both carefully brazed using a silver alloy .
    Each fitting has been pressure tested with nitrogen to 400 psi to ensure no leaks.

3. Wiring and drainage management

The control wiring was passed through a waterproof grommet , and the condensate drain was slightly inclined to drain the water by gravity to the outside without the risk of backflow.

4. Vacuuming and charging the refrigerant

A professional vacuum pump was used for 30 minutes to remove all moisture and air from the circuit. The system was then sealed and checked before the performance test began.

Final test and calibration

In the test phase, the Midea heat pump achieved:

  • A blowing temperature of 9°C in air conditioning mode after 10 minutes;

  • A temperature of 42°C in heating mode;

  • An interior noise level measured at only 21 dB , in line with the most demanding standards.

The customer immediately noticed the quick response and temperature stability in the room. Thanks to the inverter technology, energy consumption remains minimal even during prolonged operation.

An exemplary project by AirGreen

This installation demonstrates the importance of precise know-how in handling refrigerant and compliance with RBQ protocols. Our certified technicians documented each step to ensure full compliance with CSA C282.3 and Hydro-Québec's requirements for residential installations.

We also advised the client:

  • Annual maintenance for cleaning the coils and drain;

  • A refrigerant pressure check every two years;

  • And the installation of an anti-vibration wall bracket to extend the life of the outdoor compressor.
