A triple installation in the heart of Montreal's winter
At AirGreen , we recently completed an installation of three Sharp ZU1 series outdoor units on the flat roof of a residential building in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood. This project perfectly illustrates our expertise in implementing high-performance HVAC systems in Montreal's dense urban environments.
Despite still very present winter conditions – partial snow, meltwater and fluctuating temperatures – our team carried out a safe, stable and energy-optimized installation .
Equipment selection: the Sharp ZU1 series, a standard for winter comfort
The Sharp ZU1 is a high-performance wall-mounted heat pump , designed to withstand the harsh Quebec climate. Capable of providing efficient heating down to -25°C , it combines inverter technology and R-32 refrigerant, ensuring superior energy efficiency and quiet operation.
For this multi-unit building, three independent systems were chosen:
-
Capacities from 12,000 to 18,000 BTU depending on the indoor units;
-
Four-season heating and cooling mode ;
-
Compatibility with provincial subsidies (high-performance heat pump programs).
A flat roof, a challenge mastered
Installing heat pumps on a flat roof requires meticulous planning:
-
Raised galvanized steel supports to avoid direct contact with the roofing membrane;
-
Treated wooden sleepers placed on anti-vibration feet to distribute the load and protect the waterproofing;
-
Precise routing of refrigerant lines and electrical wiring , carefully sheathed to resist frost and UV rays;
-
Condensate management by gravity flow, avoiding any accumulation of water under the units.
This type of installation offers several advantages: easier access for maintenance , better air circulation around the units and increased sound insulation for the building's occupants.
Precision work by AirGreen
Our RBQ and CCQ certified technicians coordinated all the steps:
-
Structural assessment of the roof;
-
Installation of the power supply on a dedicated circuit breaker;
-
Checking the flow slopes for condensates;
-
Full performance testing before commissioning.
Every Sharp unit has been tested to ensure optimal operation in heating mode, even at low temperatures. The result: a reliable, balanced and durable system, ready to provide consistent comfort all year round.
A sustainable and energy-efficient investment
By choosing the Sharp ZU1 , owners benefit from excellent value for money , while reducing their carbon footprint. Thanks to frequency inversion technology , energy consumption is adjusted according to actual demand, which results in:
-
Up to 40% energy savings compared to traditional electric heating;
-
Extended equipment life ;
-
A significant reduction in outside noise .
