Each number is a point we check on site. Switch between summer and winter to watch air and heat move.
In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
AirGreen's Latest Sharp Heat Pump Installation: Enhancing Comfort and Efficiency
At AirGreen, we take great pride in providing cutting-edge HVAC solutions that cater to the unique needs of our clients in Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, as well as the North and South Shores. Our latest project, an installation of the Sharp ZU1 18,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump, took place in the charming community of Côte Saint-Luc, ensuring that another household can now enjoy energy-efficient heating and cooling all year long.
The client, a homeowner in Côte Saint-Luc, was searching for a reliable and eco-friendly solution to maintain comfortable temperatures inside their home, even during the coldest winters and hottest summers. After a thorough consultation, we recommended the Sharp ZU1, a wall-mounted heat pump designed to handle the region's demanding weather patterns with ease, all while keeping energy consumption low.

Why the Sharp ZU1 18,000 BTU Heat Pump is Perfect for Côte Saint-Luc Homes
The Sharp ZU1 model stands out for a multitude of reasons. Its 18,000 BTU capacity provides sufficient power to heat and cool mid-sized homes like the one in Côte Saint-Luc. It’s ideal for handling the extreme temperatures we face in Quebec—from blistering hot summers to bone-chilling winters where temperatures drop as low as -27°C.
Here’s a closer look at what makes this installation truly special:
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Friendliness
One of the standout features of the Sharp ZU1 heat pump is its commitment to energy efficiency. Equipped with R-32 refrigerant, this system is not only environmentally friendly but also enhances performance by reducing electrical consumption by up to 10% compared to traditional refrigerants. With Quebec's focus on reducing energy consumption and minimizing carbon footprints, the Sharp ZU1 is the ideal choice for eco-conscious homeowners.
LogisVert Grant Eligibility: Maximizing Value for the Client
Thanks to the Hydro-Québec LogisVert Grant program, this Sharp ZU1 installation qualifies for a generous $2,640 rebate, significantly reducing the initial investment for our client. This grant is part of Quebec’s initiative to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient solutions, and it makes the Sharp ZU1 not only a top-tier HVAC choice but also an economically savvy investment.
Key Features of the Sharp ZU1 18,000 BTU Heat Pump
The Sharp ZU1 heat pump comes with a host of advanced features that ensure superior comfort and performance:
Plasmacluster Technology for Healthier Air
The Sharp ZU1 utilizes Plasmacluster technology, which actively neutralizes airborne viruses, mold, and allergens. This was a particularly important feature for the homeowner, as they were concerned about maintaining healthy air quality indoors. The Plasmacluster technology provides continuous air purification, making the indoor environment safer and more comfortable.
Coanda Airflow Control for Even Temperature Distribution
In many homes, uneven temperature distribution can be a problem, but Sharp’s Coanda airflow technology ensures that air is evenly spread throughout the space. This technology directs warm or cool air to flow along the walls and ceilings, effectively circulating it without creating unpleasant drafts. In the Côte Saint-Luc installation, this feature ensures every corner of the house benefits from consistent temperatures.
Whisper-Quiet Operation
The Sharp ZU1 is designed to operate quietly, with indoor noise levels ranging from 25 dB(A) to 49 dB(A). This means the homeowner can enjoy comfort without any disruptive noise, especially important in a peaceful neighborhood like Côte Saint-Luc. The outdoor unit also operates at a quiet 52 dB(A), ensuring that both the homeowner and their neighbors experience minimal disturbance.
Cutting-Edge Heating Capacity in Extreme Cold
Montreal winters are notoriously harsh, and heating systems are put to the test every season. The Sharp ZU1 heat pump is built to handle the coldest conditions, maintaining optimal performance even at temperatures as low as -27°C. With its hot gas pipe system, the ZU1 prevents freezing in the outdoor compressor, ensuring efficient operation in extreme winter conditions.
This robust heating capacity was a major selling point for our client, who wanted to ensure their family remained warm and comfortable during the region's frigid winters without worrying about system failures or excessive energy costs.
WiFi Connectivity and Smart Controls
The Sharp ZU1 also comes equipped with WiFi functionality, allowing the homeowner to control the system remotely through a smartphone app. Whether they're adjusting the temperature before arriving home or monitoring energy usage, this smart feature provides convenience and peace of mind. The app also offers real-time energy consumption reports, helping homeowners optimize their usage and reduce their electricity bills over time.
Seamless Installation by AirGreen’s Expert Team
Our team at AirGreen executed the installation with precision and attention to detail. The Sharp ZU1’s interior unit, measuring 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, was installed in a central area of the home to ensure optimal airflow and temperature control throughout the space. The exterior unit, at 33.47 x 13 x 27.94 inches, was strategically placed to allow for efficient operation and easy maintenance access.
We also ensured that the system's piping (1/4 - 3/8) and voltage (220V) were perfectly aligned with the home’s existing infrastructure. The installation process was completed smoothly and within the agreed timeframe, leaving the client extremely satisfied with both the product and the service provided.

Warranty and Peace of Mind
As with all Sharp products installed by AirGreen, this ZU1 model comes with an impressive 10-year warranty on parts, compressor, and labor, ensuring long-term reliability. The extended warranty was an added bonus, giving the homeowner peace of mind for the years to come.

The big day, step by step
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

What would it look like at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.

Your own project, step by step
What to do, season by season
Three habits per season for this unit. They take a few minutes and prevent many calls.
- Clean the indoor unit's filters.
- Clear leaves and debris left on the outdoor unit by winter.
- Test cooling before the first hot days.
- Clean the filters more often when the unit runs a lot.
- Keep plants away from the outdoor unit.
- Check that no water drips from the indoor unit.
- Rake the leaves around the outdoor unit.
- Test heating before the first cold days.
- Book periodic maintenance before winter.
- Keep snow away from the stand and the front of the unit.
- Let the unit defrost: it is normal.
- Never hit the ice on the fins; call us if the unit stays iced up.
Is your home ready?
Check what applies at your place. A "no" is not a refusal: it is what we sort out during the estimate.
Four statements: true or false?
It all comes down to details you have just seen.
1. In heating mode, the outdoor unit can produce water.
During defrost cycles. That water must drain away without forming ice.
2. You pick the capacity with a simple square-footage rule.
Windows, insulation, orientation and how the room is used all count. Capacity is chosen on site.
3. A multi-zone connects several indoor heads to a single condenser.
One head per room, all on the same condenser. Each room keeps its own temperature.
4. The disconnect can sit behind the patio furniture.
It must stay accessible: it is what shuts the unit off for service.
