Precision, Comfort, and Energy Efficiency: A Smart Investment in Your Home
At AirGreen, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality HVAC solutions that perfectly match the needs of our customers. Recently, we completed a noteworthy installation of the Sharp ZU1 24,000 BTU Wall-Mounted Heat Pump in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal. This project highlights the innovation and reliability of the Sharp ZU series while showcasing the expertise of our team in handling complex installations.
Why the Sharp ZU1 24,000 BTU is the Perfect Choice
The Sharp ZU1 24,000 BTU mini split heat pump is designed to thrive in the harshest climates, making it an ideal solution for homes in Montreal and the surrounding areas. With a heating capacity rated down to -27°C, it ensures that your home remains warm even during the most brutal Canadian winters.
But that’s not all. This heat pump also boasts an impressive 22.0 SEER rating, making it one of the most energy-efficient units on the market. By choosing this model, homeowners can significantly reduce their energy consumption, lowering both their carbon footprint and their monthly bills.
Additionally, the Sharp ZU1 is eligible for the $2,688 LogisVert Grant by Hydro-Québec, the highest grant available for any 24,000 BTU mini split system, which makes it not only an excellent choice for comfort but also a smart financial decision.
A Thoughtfully Executed Installation in Côte-des-Neiges
This particular installation presented unique challenges that required careful planning and execution. The home in Côte-des-Neiges had specific space constraints, making it crucial to position the outdoor unit strategically to avoid interfering with the aesthetics and functionality of the property.
Our technicians installed the Sharp ZU1 outdoor compressor under a sheltered area to protect it from harsh weather while ensuring optimal airflow. The indoor unit, with its sleek and modern design, was placed in a central location to maximize air distribution throughout the home.
The Sharp ZU1 uses the latest R-32 refrigerant, which is both more environmentally friendly and more efficient than previous refrigerants. This choice aligns perfectly with AirGreen’s commitment to sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of HVAC systems.
Superior Technology for Superior Comfort
Plasmacluster Technology: More Than Just Air Conditioning
One of the standout features of the Sharp ZU1 is its Plasmacluster technology, which goes beyond simply heating and cooling your home. This technology purifies the air by eliminating mold, airborne viruses, and allergens, creating a healthier environment for you and your family. If you're concerned about indoor air quality, this is a game-changer. No other mini split system offers this level of air purification, making it a truly unique feature that sets Sharp apart from the competition.
Coanda Airflow: Ensuring Uniform Comfort in Every Room
The Sharp ZU1 also incorporates Coanda airflow technology, a smart feature that ensures even temperature distribution. No more worrying about uneven heating or cooling; this system is designed to circulate air in a way that avoids direct drafts while maintaining a comfortable and consistent temperature throughout the home. The long diffuser flap directs airflow up to 15 meters, ensuring that every corner of your home stays comfortable.
Built to Last: Durability and Efficiency Combined
The Sharp ZU1 isn’t just efficient and high-performing—it’s also built to last. With a 10-year warranty on the compressor, parts, and labor, homeowners can have peace of mind knowing that their investment is protected for the long haul.
Anti-Corrosive Coating and Hot Gas Pipe Technology
Montreal’s winters are notorious for their freezing temperatures and harsh conditions, but the Sharp ZU1 is more than up to the challenge. The outdoor unit features an anti-corrosive coating, ensuring that it withstands the elements and performs reliably year after year. In addition, the patented Hot Gas Pipe system ensures that the outdoor compressor doesn’t freeze up, even in the coldest temperatures.
Efficient Defrosting for Consistent Performance
One of the most common issues with heat pumps in cold climates is the accumulation of ice on the outdoor unit. The Sharp ZU1 combats this with an advanced defrosting system that circulates hot gas through the unit to prevent ice buildup. This technology shortens defrost time by up to 60%, meaning you’ll experience minimal interruptions in heating during the winter.
Cutting-Edge Connectivity for the Modern Home
The Sharp ZU1 comes equipped with WiFi connectivity, allowing homeowners to control the system remotely via a smartphone app. Whether you're at home or away, you can adjust the temperature, monitor energy usage, and even receive notifications if something requires attention. This makes managing your home’s climate as easy as tapping a button.
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Responsibility
At AirGreen, we are always looking for ways to offer our customers solutions that are not only high-performance but also environmentally responsible. The Sharp ZU1 uses the R-32 refrigerant, which has a much lower global warming potential compared to older refrigerants like R-22. This not only reduces the system’s environmental impact but also improves energy efficiency by approximately 10%.
By installing the Sharp ZU1, homeowners are choosing a product that aligns with the latest government energy efficiency standards, ensuring that their system remains compliant for years to come. Plus, with its Energy Star certification, the Sharp ZU1 is officially recognized for its energy-saving capabilities.

The job tools
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
How the job unfolds
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

What we check on a job like this one
Each number is a point we check on site. Switch between summer and winter to watch air and heat move.
In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.
Generic illustration of this type of installation, not a survey of this job site. Tap a number.
Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Is your home ready?
Check what applies at your place. A "no" is not a refusal: it is what we sort out during the estimate.
Good habits, once the unit is in place
Six simple habits that keep the unit going. Your list stays on this device.
What to do, season by season
Three habits per season for this unit. They take a few minutes and prevent many calls.
- Clean the indoor unit's filters.
- Clear leaves and debris left on the outdoor unit by winter.
- Test cooling before the first hot days.
- Clean the filters more often when the unit runs a lot.
- Keep plants away from the outdoor unit.
- Check that no water drips from the indoor unit.
- Rake the leaves around the outdoor unit.
- Test heating before the first cold days.
- Book periodic maintenance before winter.
- Keep snow away from the stand and the front of the unit.
- Let the unit defrost: it is normal.
- Never hit the ice on the fins; call us if the unit stays iced up.
The right pages, at the right time
Four statements: true or false?
It all comes down to details you have just seen.
1. In heating mode, the outdoor unit can produce water.
During defrost cycles. That water must drain away without forming ice.
2. You pick the capacity with a simple square-footage rule.
Windows, insulation, orientation and how the room is used all count. Capacity is chosen on site.
3. A multi-zone connects several indoor heads to a single condenser.
One head per room, all on the same condenser. Each room keeps its own temperature.
4. The disconnect can sit behind the patio furniture.
It must stay accessible: it is what shuts the unit off for service.
