Take a tour of the installation
Each number is a point we check on site. Switch between summer and winter to watch air and heat move.
In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Efficient Heating and Cooling with a Cutting-Edge Sharp ZU1 Mini Split
At AirGreen, we take great pride in offering premium HVAC installations throughout the Greater Montreal area, including Laval, Longueuil, and the North and South Shores. Our latest project in Ville Saint-Laurent involved the installation of a Sharp ZU1 24,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump, a unit that perfectly balances modern technology, energy efficiency, and home comfort. With this installation, the homeowners will not only enjoy year-round temperature control but also benefit from a $2,688 LogisVert Grant by Hydro-Québec, the highest grant available for a 24,000 BTU mini split.
The Installation Process: Combining Expertise and Precision
The Sharp ZU1 mini split was installed in a prime location within the home, ensuring optimal airflow and temperature uniformity throughout the space. Our team took special care to mount the interior unit at the perfect height, allowing for an unobstructed distribution of air using the Coanda airflow control. This innovative feature directs the airflow along the ceiling and walls, avoiding direct drafts on the occupants, which is ideal for a comfortable living environment.
Moreover, the exterior unit was strategically positioned to minimize noise disruption, thanks to its quiet 53.0 dB(A) sound pressure level, making it suitable for a residential area like Ville Saint-Laurent. To ensure long-lasting performance, we applied a specialized anticorrosive coating to protect the unit against the elements, especially important given Quebec’s harsh winters.

Sharp ZU1: A Perfect Fit for Quebec's Climate
The Sharp ZU1 heat pump was specifically chosen for this installation due to its outstanding ability to perform in extreme cold conditions. The system is designed to provide heating down to -27°C, ensuring that the home remains warm even during the coldest days of winter. This is achieved through Sharp's patented Hot Gas Pipe system, which prevents the outdoor compressor from freezing by circulating residual heat throughout the piping.
In addition, the defrosting mode of the ZU1 ensures that ice does not accumulate on the unit, as hot gas circulates to the condensation pan, rapidly melting any frozen water. The multi-hole drainage system then efficiently expels the water, preventing any potential freezing issues.
A Greener, More Sustainable Choice
AirGreen is committed to promoting energy-efficient solutions, and the Sharp ZU1 heat pump fits perfectly with this mission. It uses the latest R-32 refrigerant, which not only enhances the unit’s cooling capacity but also significantly reduces its environmental impact. The R-32 refrigerant has a lower global warming potential compared to older refrigerants like R-22, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The 22.0 SEER efficiency rating of the ZU1 also speaks to its exceptional energy-saving capabilities. This high level of efficiency means the homeowners will benefit from reduced electricity costs while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment. The inverter technology built into the unit allows the system to adjust its power usage based on the room's temperature, preventing unnecessary energy consumption and prolonging the lifespan of the heat pump.
Plasmacluster Technology: Superior Air Quality
One of the standout features of the Sharp ZU1 mini split is its Plasmacluster air purification technology. This unique system releases both positive and negative ions into the air, neutralizing harmful particles such as bacteria, viruses, and allergens. For this Ville Saint-Laurent installation, the Plasmacluster feature offers a significant advantage, ensuring that the indoor air remains not only comfortable but also clean and healthy for the occupants.
Benefits of Plasmacluster Technology:
- Eliminates airborne viruses and bacteria.
- Neutralizes mold spores, ensuring a healthier indoor environment.
- Reduces odors from cooking, smoking, and pets.
- Alleviates allergens, making it ideal for homes with asthma or allergy sufferers.
Multi-Space Functionality for Enhanced Comfort
The Sharp ZU1 comes equipped with a Multi Space function, enabling the heat pump to efficiently distribute air throughout multiple rooms. This was particularly beneficial for the homeowners in Ville Saint-Laurent, who wanted to ensure that their entire living area remained evenly heated or cooled. The system’s rotating flap, which can adjust up to 180 degrees, allows for precise control over airflow direction, making it easy to achieve a consistent temperature across different spaces.
In heating mode, the flap directs warm air downward to maintain a cozy atmosphere, while in cooling mode, it pushes cool air upward for maximum coverage. The adjustable angles of the flap give homeowners the flexibility to customize airflow according to their preferences.
Smart Connectivity and Real-Time Monitoring
To add to the convenience, the Sharp ZU1 mini split includes WiFi connectivity, allowing homeowners to control the system through a smartphone app. This smart feature provides real-time updates on temperature and humidity levels, and can even send notifications when someone is detected entering the room or if the space has been vacant for an extended period. The app’s energy monitoring capabilities help users track their heat pump’s power consumption, promoting smarter energy use and reducing unnecessary costs.
The GPS interlocking feature further enhances efficiency by adjusting the system's settings based on the homeowner’s location. For instance, if the user leaves the house with the heat pump still running, the app will issue a reminder to turn it off. When approaching home, the system can automatically adjust to a desired temperature, ensuring comfort upon arrival.
Ensuring a Quiet and Comfortable Experience
While some heat pumps generate disruptive noise, the Sharp ZU1 mini split boasts an impressively low 25 to 49 dB(A) sound level for the indoor unit. This makes it an excellent choice for bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices, where noise levels need to be kept to a minimum. The unit’s sound-dampening design ensures that even when operating at maximum capacity, it remains whisper-quiet.

The big day, step by step
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

What would it look like at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.

Your own project, step by step
What to do, season by season
Three habits per season for this unit. They take a few minutes and prevent many calls.
- Clean the indoor unit's filters.
- Clear leaves and debris left on the outdoor unit by winter.
- Test cooling before the first hot days.
- Clean the filters more often when the unit runs a lot.
- Keep plants away from the outdoor unit.
- Check that no water drips from the indoor unit.
- Rake the leaves around the outdoor unit.
- Test heating before the first cold days.
- Book periodic maintenance before winter.
- Keep snow away from the stand and the front of the unit.
- Let the unit defrost: it is normal.
- Never hit the ice on the fins; call us if the unit stays iced up.
Is your home ready?
Check what applies at your place. A "no" is not a refusal: it is what we sort out during the estimate.
Four statements: true or false?
It all comes down to details you have just seen.
1. In heating mode, the outdoor unit can produce water.
During defrost cycles. That water must drain away without forming ice.
2. You pick the capacity with a simple square-footage rule.
Windows, insulation, orientation and how the room is used all count. Capacity is chosen on site.
3. A multi-zone connects several indoor heads to a single condenser.
One head per room, all on the same condenser. Each room keeps its own temperature.
4. The disconnect can sit behind the patio furniture.
It must stay accessible: it is what shuts the unit off for service.
