Installation of a SHARP ZU1 Wall-Mounted Heat Pump in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve
Experience unmatched comfort with the SHARP ZU1 Heat Pump. Learn about its advanced features and how AirGreen ensures seamless installations across Montreal!

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.

Installation Details: Tailored for Comfort and Efficiency
Our team approached this installation with precision and care. The interior unit, measuring 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, was strategically mounted above a door to optimize airflow. Meanwhile, the exterior unit, compact yet robust at 30.72 x 10.59 x 21.25 inches, was installed with careful consideration to ensure efficient drainage and protection from the elements.
To enhance durability, we applied SHARP’s anti-corrosive coating to safeguard the outdoor compressor against Quebec’s challenging winters. We also utilized multiple drainage holes to prevent water pooling and freezing, ensuring long-term reliability for the homeowner.
The $2,172 LogisVert Grant: A Game-Changer for Quebec Homeowners
Did you know this specific SHARP model qualifies for the highest possible LogisVert grant of $2,172? Hydro-Québec recognizes the ZU1’s superior energy efficiency and environmentally friendly features, making it a standout choice for homeowners looking to reduce their carbon footprint while saving on utility bills.
A Story Behind the Installation
The homeowner, a young professional working from home, sought a heating and cooling solution that could adapt to the unpredictable Quebec seasons. After extensive research, they chose the SHARP ZU1 for its exceptional performance, quiet operation, and modern features. Our consultation process included a thorough evaluation of their home’s layout, ensuring the system would deliver uniform temperature control across all rooms.
The installation was completed in just one day, thanks to the expertise of our certified technicians. Post-installation, the homeowner was thrilled to discover the system’s smart WiFi capabilities, allowing them to control the heat pump remotely via a smartphone app. This feature, coupled with real-time energy usage tracking, provided them with peace of mind and greater control over their energy consumption.
Technological Highlights: What Makes the SHARP ZU1 Unique
Plasmacluster Technology: Cleaner, Healthier Air
The SHARP ZU1 goes beyond temperature control by actively purifying indoor air. Its Plasmacluster ions work to eliminate:
- Airborne viruses and bacteria
- Mold spores
- Allergens
- Persistent odors, including tobacco residue
This feature is a game-changer for families with allergies or respiratory sensitivities, ensuring a healthier living environment.
Coanda Airflow Control: Superior Temperature Distribution
Thanks to the Coanda effect, this heat pump directs airflow along walls and ceilings to achieve uniform temperature distribution. Whether heating or cooling, it ensures that every corner of the home remains comfortable without unpleasant drafts.
Smart Features for Modern Living
Equipped with motion sensors, the ZU1 detects when rooms are occupied, optimizing energy usage by adjusting its operation accordingly. The accompanying smartphone app offers:
- Real-time temperature and humidity monitoring
- Detailed energy consumption reports
- GPS interlocking for automatic system adjustments based on your location
Built to Brave Quebec Winters
The SHARP ZU1 is designed with extreme weather in mind. Its patented Hot Gas Pipe System prevents the outdoor compressor from freezing, while its defrost mode reduces downtime during cold snaps. These features ensure uninterrupted comfort, even during Montreal’s harshest winter days.
Eco-Friendly and Future-Proof
With its use of the environmentally friendly R-32 refrigerant, the SHARP ZU1 aligns with Quebec’s push toward greener energy solutions. Compared to traditional refrigerants, R-32 offers:
- 10% greater energy efficiency
- 67% lower global warming potential
This makes the ZU1 not only a smart choice for your wallet but also for the planet.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

At −27 °C, its certified minimum capacity is 3,200 BTU/h (5,500 at 8 °C). It slows down instead of cycling on and off.
According to NEEP, its certified heating capacity at −15 °C (5 °F) is 19,000 BTU/h, 79% of its nominal 24,000 BTU size. Its COP there is 2.20.
Data read live from the airgreen.ca page of each size (NEEP / AHRI certified performance). When the title names the installed size, it is highlighted; otherwise the whole range is shown. The aid shown is today’s, using Hydro-Québec’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C); amounts quoted in the article date from its publication. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.
And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
