Take a tour of the installation
Each number is a point we check on site. Switch between summer and winter to watch air and heat move.
In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Achieving Year-Round Comfort in Pierrefonds with AirGreen's Advanced HVAC Solution
At AirGreen, we take pride in bringing the latest HVAC technology to our customers across Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, and the South Shore. Our recent project in Pierrefonds involved installing a Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump, a solution that offers exceptional comfort and efficiency, even in the harshest climates. This installation featured a 24,000 BTU compressor paired with three 9,000 BTU indoor units, making it an ideal choice for a home that demands superior heating and cooling across multiple zones.
Why Choose a Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump?
When it comes to choosing a heat pump, efficiency, reliability, and performance are key considerations, especially in a place like Pierrefonds where temperatures can drop to -27°C. The Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump is equipped with features that not only meet but exceed these demands, ensuring homeowners stay comfortable throughout the year while keeping energy costs in check.
- Cooling Capacity: 24,000 BTU, ideal for cooling large areas or multiple rooms.
- Heating Capacity: Maintains performance even at -27°C, making it perfect for the coldest winter days.
- Energy Star® Certified: Recognized for energy efficiency, reducing both environmental impact and utility bills.
- SEER Efficiency: With a high 24.0 SEER rating, this system optimizes energy use without compromising on comfort.
- R-32 Refrigerant: A future-forward refrigerant that offers better efficiency and a lower global warming potential compared to older refrigerants like R-410A.
The Pierrefonds Installation: Bringing Modern Comfort to a Family Home
The installation in Pierrefonds posed a few unique challenges due to the layout of the home and the need for efficient airflow across different zones. Our team carefully assessed the structure to determine the optimal placement for the outdoor unit (measuring 33.47 x 13 x 27.94 inches) and the three indoor units (serial numbers: AY-XPC9BU, AY-XPC12BU, and AY-XPC18BU) to ensure maximum coverage and comfort.
Efficient Multi-Zone Setup
One of the standout features of this Triple Zone system is its ability to manage temperatures across three separate areas, offering precise control to meet the specific needs of each room. By installing three 9,000 BTU indoor units, the system ensures consistent comfort no matter where you are in the house. Each zone can be adjusted individually, providing the flexibility to cool or heat only the areas in use, which helps conserve energy.
Overcoming Installation Challenges
The home’s architecture required careful planning for the placement of the indoor units to avoid airflow obstructions and ensure optimal performance. Our technicians made use of the Coanda effect, which allows air to flow along walls and ceilings, promoting even temperature distribution throughout each room. This strategic placement not only eliminates hot and cold spots but also prevents air drafts from blowing directly onto occupants, resulting in a more comfortable living environment.
Plasmacluster Technology: A Game Changer for Indoor Air Quality
Beyond temperature control, the Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump comes with Plasmacluster technology, which is a remarkable feature exclusive to Sharp. This advanced air purification system emits positive and negative ions, which neutralize airborne bacteria, viruses, mold, and allergens, thus significantly improving indoor air quality. It's an ideal choice for families with members who suffer from allergies or asthma, ensuring they breathe clean, fresh air every day.
- Pathogen Neutralization: Reduces the risk of illnesses by targeting harmful microorganisms.
- Odor Elimination: Efficiently addresses odors from cooking, pets, or other household sources, leaving the air crisp and pleasant.
Unmatched Cold Weather Performance with the "HOT GAS PIPE" System
For a city like Pierrefonds, known for its frigid winters, having a heat pump that can withstand extremely low temperatures is crucial. The Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump's patented "HOT GAS PIPE" system is designed to perform exceptionally well in temperatures as low as -27°C. This innovative system uses residual heat from the defrosting process to keep the outdoor unit free of ice, ensuring continuous operation and optimal performance even during the coldest spells.
- Enhanced Efficiency in Low Temperatures: Maintains heating efficiency when you need it the most.
- Reduced Energy Costs: By avoiding frequent defrost cycles, the system minimizes energy waste, resulting in significant cost savings.
Self-Cleaning Function: Less Maintenance, More Peace of Mind
Maintenance is a key consideration for any HVAC system. The Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump comes equipped with a self-cleaning function that utilizes Plasmacluster ions to inhibit mold growth inside the unit. This feature not only ensures better air quality but also extends the lifespan of the equipment, reducing the frequency and cost of maintenance.
- Automatic Mold Prevention: The system initiates periodic purification cycles to keep the air clean and free from allergens.
- Extended Equipment Life: Regular self-cleaning reduces wear and tear, ensuring long-term durability.
The Benefits of R-32 Refrigerant: A Step Towards Sustainability
We always prioritize eco-friendly solutions at AirGreen. The R-32 refrigerant used in the Sharp BU Triple Zone Heat Pump offers a more sustainable approach to home heating and cooling. Compared to traditional refrigerants like R-22 or R-410A, R-32 has a significantly lower global warming potential, contributing to a reduced environmental footprint.
- Higher Efficiency: Enhances heat transfer capabilities, making the system more efficient.
- Lower Environmental Impact: With a reduced global warming potential, it aligns with our commitment to sustainable practices.
- Easier Recycling: The straightforward recovery process of R-32 promotes responsible disposal and recycling.

The big day, step by step
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

What would it look like at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.

Your own project, step by step
What to do, season by season
Three habits per season for this unit. They take a few minutes and prevent many calls.
- Clean the indoor unit's filters.
- Clear leaves and debris left on the outdoor unit by winter.
- Test cooling before the first hot days.
- Clean the filters more often when the unit runs a lot.
- Keep plants away from the outdoor unit.
- Check that no water drips from the indoor unit.
- Rake the leaves around the outdoor unit.
- Test heating before the first cold days.
- Book periodic maintenance before winter.
- Keep snow away from the stand and the front of the unit.
- Let the unit defrost: it is normal.
- Never hit the ice on the fins; call us if the unit stays iced up.
Is your home ready?
Check what applies at your place. A "no" is not a refusal: it is what we sort out during the estimate.
Four statements: true or false?
It all comes down to details you have just seen.
1. In heating mode, the outdoor unit can produce water.
During defrost cycles. That water must drain away without forming ice.
2. You pick the capacity with a simple square-footage rule.
Windows, insulation, orientation and how the room is used all count. Capacity is chosen on site.
3. A multi-zone connects several indoor heads to a single condenser.
One head per room, all on the same condenser. Each room keeps its own temperature.
4. The disconnect can sit behind the patio furniture.
It must stay accessible: it is what shuts the unit off for service.
