Gree wall-mounted heat pump installation in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension

In Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, brick duplexes line the streets, each with its own small wrought-iron balcony and shared backyard. In this project, our AirGreen team was tasked with modernizing the comfort of an apartment in a typical building in the area by installing a Gree wall-mounted heat pump.

The client wanted a solution that would respect the character of the brick facade while offering better temperature control, summer and winter, without multiplying window air conditioners or increasing the electricity bill.

The client's need: four-season comfort in a Montreal plex

Before our intervention, the apartment was heated primarily by electric baseboard heaters, without fixed air conditioning. The constraints were typical for this type of building:

  • Overheating in summer , especially in the west-facing living room.

  • Uneven warmth between rooms, with some areas being colder in winter.

  • It is impossible to leave window air conditioners permanently installed, due to noise, safety and aesthetic reasons.

The owner was therefore looking for a solution:

  • Compact and quiet;

  • Energy efficient to reduce overall consumption;

  • Discreet on the front facade, very visible from the street;

  • Adapted to Montreal's climate, with harsh winters and marked temperature variations.

The AirGreen solution: a high-efficiency Gree wall-mounted heat pump

After analyzing the premises and the building's configuration, we recommended the installation of a Gree wall-mounted, single-zone heat pump of approximately 12,000 BTU .

This type of appliance is perfectly suited to a Montreal duplex apartment:

  • Inverter technology : power is continuously adjusted according to actual demand, which improves comfort and reduces energy consumption.

  • Efficient heating mode : the Gree heat pump provides stable heat over a wide range of outdoor temperatures, reducing the use of electric baseboard heaters.

  • Precise air conditioning mode : the customer can aim for a constant temperature without the abrupt variations associated with on/off systems.

  • Quiet operation both inside and outside, an important point in a dense area like Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.

A neat outdoor installation on a brick facade

The photo shows the Gree outdoor unit installed on the rear/side facade, made of red brick, just below the metal balcony. We paid particular attention to both the existing structure and the overall aesthetics.

Wall brackets and height from the floor

The heat pump is mounted on galvanized wall brackets , securely anchored to the concrete portion of the foundation. This configuration:

  • Ensures optimal stability of the device;

  • Reduces vibrations and noise transmitted to the structure;

  • Keeps the unit clear of the ground , protected from snow, ice and water accumulation in the spring.

This height also facilitates maintenance operations (cleaning, inspection, electrical checks).

Management of clearances and air circulation

The Gree unit is positioned at a safe distance from surrounding elements: brick wall, wrought iron railing, downspout, and stairwell. This clearance all around the machine ensures:

  • Free air circulation to maximize the efficiency of the heat pump;

  • A reduction in the risk of recirculation of hot air in air conditioning mode and of cold air in heating mode;

  • A limitation of noise reflected towards the windows of the dwelling.

Integration with the facade and existing elements

We took advantage of the white downspout to discreetly integrate the refrigeration lines and wiring using a matching pipe cover. The result:

  • The pipes are protected from shocks, UV rays and frost ;

  • The installation remains visually harmonious , respecting the style of the plex;

  • The focus is more on the architecture of the building than on the machine.

The condensation drain was also designed to prevent drips onto the foundation and foot traffic areas, by directing water to a suitable location on the ground.

Interior: a discreet wall-mounted head unit in the living room

Inside, the Gree wall-mounted unit was installed in the main living area to optimize air distribution throughout the home. Our technicians:

  • Choose a clear central wall to allow airflow to distribute towards the living room, dining room and kitchen;

  • Drilled through the wall directly behind the indoor unit to shorten the refrigerant lines , which reduces losses and improves reliability;

  • Adjusted the installation height to ensure optimal air circulation without blowing directly on the occupants.

The customer thus benefits from immediate comfort, while maintaining a simple and functional interior layout.

Results for the client: comfort, savings, and increased property value

Since the Gree wall-mounted heat pump was installed, the homeowner has noticed several tangible benefits:

  • Significantly improved summer comfort : the temperature remains stable even during periods of intense heat.

  • More even heating during the shoulder seasons and a good part of the winter, which reduces the need for electric baseboard heaters.

  • Optimized electricity bill , thanks to the superior efficiency of a heat pump compared to electric heating alone.

  • Property value enhancement : an apartment equipped with a modern heat pump is perceived as more comfortable and more attractive on the rental market.

An installation compliant with Quebec HVAC standards

At AirGreen, we place great importance on safety and compliance:

  • Electrical connection carried out by a qualified professional, on a dedicated circuit with an appropriate circuit breaker;

  • Complete evacuation of the refrigeration lines before opening the valves, in order to eliminate moisture and air;

  • Pressure, heating and air conditioning tests, to validate the efficiency and tightness of the system;

  • Complete explanations to the customer on the operation of the remote control, the operating modes (heating, air conditioning, dehumidification, auto) and basic maintenance (cleaning the filters, clearing around the outdoor unit, etc.).

The owner now has a reliable, high-performing and guaranteed system, supported by the expertise of our AirGreen team.
