Installation of Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

In this project, our AirGreen team worked in a typical Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie residential building to modernize occupant comfort by installing two high-efficiency Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps . The building, composed of stacked apartments, had a narrow side passage between two brick facades: a perfect environment for a meticulous installation… but one that was technically demanding.

The client's need: four-season comfort, without wasting space

The owners wanted:

  • To efficiently air-condition and heat two dwellings;

  • Reduce their reliance on traditional electric heating, which is very energy-intensive in winter;

  • Preserve the aesthetics of the brick facades;

  • Minimize the floor space required in the passage, which is already very narrow.

Our advisors therefore recommended the installation of two Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps , each dedicated to a dwelling, in order to offer independent temperature control and valuable redundancy in case of high demand.

System type selected: Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pumps (R-32)

For this project, we opted for the Sharp ZU1 range (R-32 wall-mounted heat pumps), known for:

  • Its excellent heating performance in cold weather ;

  • Its high energy efficiency inverter compressor ;

  • Its silent operation, both indoors and outdoors;

  • The use of R-32 refrigerant, which is more efficient and more environmentally friendly than R-410A.

Each Sharp wall unit serves a separate dwelling, providing:

  • Air conditioning in summer , even during periods of intense heat;

  • Stable and comfortable heating throughout much of the Montreal winter, even in sub-zero temperatures typical of our winters.

A narrow installation site: a real clearance challenge

The passage between the two brick buildings is particularly narrow. In this context, several technical aspects had to be managed meticulously:

1. Clearances and air circulation

Even in a narrow corridor, a heat pump needs to be able to breathe :

  • We fixed the two Sharp condensers on a sturdy wall bracket , at a good height, to clear the floor area and ensure optimal air circulation.

  • The side-by-side arrangement respects the minimum distances between the devices, in order to avoid the recirculation of hot air in heating mode or cold air in air conditioning mode.

2. Protection against snow and ice

In winter, the accumulation of snow and ice on the ground can impair the performance and durability of appliances:

  • The raised wall mounting helps protect Sharp units from snowbanks and runoff.

  • The passage is covered with river stones , promoting drainage and limiting splashing on equipment.

3. Safe access to heights

The refrigeration and electrical lines had to be routed vertically over several meters:

  • We used a telescopic ladder to work safely at height.

  • The technicians took care to securely fix the duct covers all along the brick wall, up to the point of entry to the dwellings.

Finish: Discreet and aesthetically pleasing refrigerant lines

In an urban environment like Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, the aesthetics of facades matter a lot to owners.

  • The insulated pipes (refrigerant, condensate drain, power supply) are protected by a neutral colour cover , installed vertically.

  • The hood follows the line of the wall up to the service entrances, resulting in a clean, aligned and discreet appearance.

  • The wiring and pipes are carefully secured to prevent any vibration or premature wear.

The result: the installation blends naturally into the passageway, without giving the impression of "DIY" or visual clutter.

Inside: targeted comfort and precise control

Although the photo only shows the exterior, the indoor units chosen are Sharp wall-mounted heads with a sleek design , installed in the main living areas of each dwelling.

The occupants thus benefit from:

  • Rapid cooling during the intense summer heat;

  • Providing pleasant heating during the shoulder seasons and for much of the winter;

  • Precise temperature control thanks to remote controls and programmable modes;

  • With quiet operation, ideal for bedrooms and living rooms.

Energy efficiency and long-term savings

By replacing or supplementing traditional electric heating with high-efficiency Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps , homeowners can:

  • To significantly reduce their electricity bill , especially in winter;

  • Benefit from a favorable COP (coefficient of performance) , i.e. more heat produced for each kWh consumed;

  • Reducing their carbon footprint , thanks to the R-32 refrigerant and optimized consumption.

Over several years, energy savings help to recoup the investment while increasing comfort and the overall value of the building.

Safety, compliance and reliability

At AirGreen, we pay particular attention to:

  • To the sizing of electrical circuits and protection by circuit breaker;

  • To the leveling of the wall supports and anchoring in the brick;

  • Vacuuming and refrigerant charging in accordance with Sharp specifications;

  • Functional tests in cold and hot mode before handover to the customer.

At the end of the project, the owners receive all the essential information: documentation for the devices, maintenance instructions, and recommendations to maximize the lifespan of the heat pumps.

A typical comfort optimization project in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

This project perfectly illustrates what we accomplish every week in Greater Montreal:

  • Upgrading comfort in existing brick buildings;

  • Adaptation to space constraints (narrow passages, courtyards, alleyways);

  • Integration of high-performance Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps , adapted to the Quebec climate.

The occupants of this building in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie now benefit from:

  • Four-season comfort;

  • Better controlled energy bills;

  • With a carefully designed exterior installation that respects the building's aesthetics.
