Generic diagram: wall-mounted heat pump, indoor and outdoor units

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Generic illustration of this type of installation, not a survey of this job site. Tap a number.

  1. Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.

  2. The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.

  3. Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.

  4. A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.

  5. The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.

  6. On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.

  7. The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.

Uniting Comfort and Elegance in the Heart of History

In the vibrant and historic district of the Old Port of Montréal, we recently completed an exciting and meticulous installation project of the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split. The Old Port, known for its cobblestone streets and charming architecture, posed unique challenges that required precision and expertise. We didn’t just install a unit; we harmonized cutting-edge technology with the elegance of a classic setting.

Why the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split is a Game-Changer

The SHARP ZU1 isn’t your average ductless unit. Equipped with a powerful cooling capacity of 18,000 BTU and an impressive heating performance down to -27°C, this machine redefines comfort for every season. With energy efficiency rated at 24.0 SEER, homeowners not only benefit from superior climate control but also experience reduced energy bills, making it an environmentally and economically smart choice.

Mastering the Installation Process in a Historic Area

Fitting a modern HVAC system into a district that breathes history requires more than technical skill—it demands an eye for seamless integration. Our experienced team ensured that the installation respected the architectural beauty of the building, running pipes and wiring with precision to maintain the aesthetic appeal. Our goal was simple: achieve peak performance while leaving the character of the Old Port untouched.

  • Location Challenges: The Old Port is full of unique layouts and architectural quirks. We strategically planned the positioning of both the indoor and outdoor units to optimize efficiency while minimizing visual impact.
  • Elegant Setup: Using discreet and sleek fixtures, we aligned the installation with the charm of the interior decor, even taking extra steps to ensure minimal disruption to the home’s historical feel.

Technical Marvel: Features That Make SHARP ZU1 Stand Out

Energy Star® Certified Excellence

The SHARP ZU1 goes beyond just providing comfort—it does so with minimal environmental impact. Being Energy Star® certified means that every operation, from the softest whisper of cool air to powerful heat during frigid winters, is optimized for efficiency.

Advanced Air Purification with Plasmacluster Technology

What sets the SHARP ZU1 apart is the Plasmacluster ion technology. This feature purifies the air, eliminating airborne bacteria, viruses, and even stubborn odors. For a historic location like the Old Port, where clean air is a premium due to dense architecture, this system becomes a health asset. Imagine air that feels as pure as a mountain breeze, right in the heart of Montréal!

  • Odor Elimination: Say goodbye to cooking smells and indoor pollutants.
  • Allergen Reduction: Ideal for homes with sensitive individuals or those who suffer from seasonal allergies.

Quiet Comfort with Unmatched Sound Performance

One of our client’s major concerns was noise pollution, as living in a bustling area like the Old Port demands quiet appliances. Thankfully, the SHARP ZU1’s indoor unit operates at a mere 25 dB(A), quieter than a whisper. Meanwhile, the outdoor unit, with a sound pressure level of 52 dB(A), ensures that the serene atmosphere of the neighborhood remains undisturbed.

Precision Engineering: Specifications that Impress

  • Cooling Capacity: 18,000 BTU—powerful enough to keep the largest rooms in the Old Port cool and comfortable during humid summers.
  • Heating Capability: Performs exceptionally well in extreme cold, down to -27°C.
  • Sound Levels: Whisper-quiet indoor operation at 25 dB(A), maintaining peace in the most intimate spaces.
  • Dimensions: Compact yet efficient design with an indoor unit measuring 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches and an exterior unit at 33.47 x 13 x 27.94 inches.
  • Freon Type: Uses R-32, a more environmentally friendly refrigerant with a lower Global Warming Potential.

Maximizing Benefits with Hydro-Québec Grants

Homeowners who choose this model are eligible for the highest LogisVert grant, up to $2,640. This financial incentive makes the SHARP ZU1 not only an energy-efficient investment but also a financially savvy one. We assisted our clients in navigating this grant process, ensuring they maximize their savings while upgrading their home comfort.

WiFi Integration: Control Your Comfort from Anywhere

The unit comes equipped with built-in WiFi, providing unparalleled control at your fingertips. Whether adjusting the temperature from the office or scheduling heating for your arrival home, the SHARP ZU1’s smart integration makes climate control simple and efficient.

Warranty for Peace of Mind

We stand by the quality of our installations and the products we offer. The SHARP ZU1 includes a 10-year warranty on the compressor, parts, and labor, giving homeowners complete peace of mind. This comprehensive warranty ensures that your investment is protected and backed by our dedication to top-notch service.

Our Commitment to Excellence at AirGreen

At AirGreen, we don’t just install machines; we enhance lifestyles. Our team is dedicated to understanding the unique needs of each project and tailoring solutions that fit seamlessly into our clients’ lives. In the Old Port, where every installation comes with its own set of challenges, we take pride in delivering results that respect both form and function.

Final Thoughts: Bringing Comfort to the Heart of History

Choosing the right HVAC system is essential, and the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split is a clear winner for anyone seeking efficiency, power, and style. For this project in the Old Port of Montréal, we blended technology with heritage, proving once again that modern comfort can coexist beautifully with historic charm.

Your numbers

And at your place?

Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.

Before / afterThe cost of the same heat

Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):

Before · baseboards11.142¢/kWh
After · heat pump–

Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.

Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.

Size checkYour baseboards, in BTU/h
–BTU/h of installed electric heat

Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.

    Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about this kind of work

    12 questions
Does a wall-mounted heat pump heat in winter?
Yes, it heats and cools. Its capacity drops in very cold weather; the operating range depends on the model and is listed on its spec sheet.
    Wall-mounted or multi-zone: how do I choose?
One wall head and one condenser outside: the direct solution for a room or an open area. For two to five rooms, a multi-zone puts one head in each room on a single condenser.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
Where it stays above the snow, clear and accessible, away from walkways. We decide it with you during the estimate.
    Are there grants?
Depending on the model and your situation, assistance programs may apply, including Hydro-Québec's LogisVert. AirGreen checks the model number before quoting an amount. See the grants.
    Do I need a permit?
Rules vary from city to city: location, distances, noise. See permits and by-laws, and we check for your address.
    How cold can it heat?
It depends on the model. According to Hydro-Québec, newer models work down to a temperature between −15 °C and −25 °C, and some cold-climate models are certified lower. The minimum temperature is on each unit's spec sheet.
    How much can I save?
Hydro-Québec says a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months. The result depends on the house, the climate and how it is used.
How is the LogisVert assistance calculated?
For ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified heat pumps, Hydro-Québec lists assistance of $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at −8 °C. AirGreen checks the exact model before quoting an amount; only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted. See the grants.
    Is it noisy?
The sound level depends on the model and is listed in decibels on each unit's spec sheet. Location matters too: when possible, we avoid putting the outdoor unit under a bedroom window.
The outdoor unit is covered in ice: is that normal?
Some frost is: the unit runs defrost cycles. Never hit the ice. If the unit stays iced up or stops heating, call us.
Does AirGreen hold the required licences?
Yes. AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, subclasses 15.8 Ventilation, 15.10 Refrigeration and 16 Electricity.
    Is the estimate free?
Yes. The on-site estimate is free and the quote follows within 24 hours. Book my free estimate.
