Bringing Comfort and Efficiency to Anjou: Sharp ZHU Heat Pump Installation

In the beautiful neighborhood of Anjou, we recently had the opportunity to install one of our most advanced and efficient mini split heat pumps—the Sharp ZHU 12,000 BTU. This installation not only represents a high-performance heating and cooling solution for Quebec's extreme climate but also showcases our commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to homeowners across Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, and beyond. Let’s dive into the details of this exciting project.

Why Choose the Sharp ZHU 12,000 BTU?

The Sharp ZHU 12,000 BTU mini split is not just any heat pump. It comes equipped with features designed for reliable performance and superior comfort, making it a perfect match for homes like the one in Anjou. Its ability to maintain heating efficiency down to -27°C means it’s more than capable of handling the harsh winters of Quebec.

  • Cooling Capacity: 12,000 BTU
  • Heating Capacity: -27°C, ideal for sub-zero temperatures
  • Energy Star® Certified: High efficiency, reducing energy consumption
  • Sound Pressure Levels: Quiet operation with 22 dB(A) indoors, perfect for a peaceful environment
  • Refrigerant: R-32, which offers a lower environmental impact compared to traditional refrigerants

But the Sharp ZHU goes beyond simple heating and cooling. This mini split heat pump is designed with a WiFi connection, allowing homeowners to control the temperature from their smartphones—anytime, anywhere.

The Installation Process: Precision and Care

For this project in Anjou, we focused on achieving a seamless integration with the home’s interior design while ensuring optimal performance. The installation involved precise placement of the indoor unit to ensure maximum airflow throughout the space. We strategically installed the indoor head just above the kitchen cabinets, blending it perfectly with the modern aesthetic of the room.

The Sharp ZHU indoor unit is compact, with dimensions of 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, which allowed us to fit it neatly without taking up too much wall space. For the outdoor unit, we made sure to position it in a location that would minimize noise disturbance while optimizing heat dissipation.

Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective

One of the most exciting aspects of this installation is the financial benefits it brings to our client in Anjou. The LogisVert Grant by Hydro-Québec offers up to $2,268—the highest grant available for a 12,000 BTU mini split. This made the Sharp ZHU even more appealing, as the homeowner not only enjoys year-round comfort but also benefits from substantial savings on the upfront cost.

Moreover, the R-32 refrigerant used in the Sharp ZHU is an environmentally responsible choice, offering around 10% less energy consumption compared to older systems using R-22. This means that the homeowner will enjoy lower energy bills while reducing their carbon footprint.

Sharp’s Commitment to Quality: 10-Year Warranty

Sharp’s reputation for quality and innovation is reinforced by its 10-year warranty on the compressor, parts, and labor. This gives the homeowner peace of mind knowing that their investment is protected for years to come. At AirGreen, we are proud to offer products that combine reliability with exceptional performance.

The Sharp ZHU: More Than Just a Heat Pump

Plasmacluster Technology: Breathe Easier

Sharp heat pumps are known for their Plasmacluster air purification technology, which is designed to neutralize airborne bacteria, viruses, and mold. In a time where air quality is more important than ever, this system goes the extra mile to ensure the homeowner’s health and comfort.

  • Eliminates viruses and bacteria from the air
  • Fights mold and airborne allergens
  • Neutralizes odors, keeping the home fresh

This is especially beneficial in a home where family members may suffer from allergies or respiratory issues. The Plasmacluster technology offers an added layer of protection, making the indoor air as clean and fresh as possible.

Nature-Inspired Fan Blades: Superior Airflow

One of the unique design elements of the Sharp ZHU mini split is its nature-inspired fan blades. The indoor unit uses blades shaped like dragonfly wings, which improve airflow by 30%, while the outdoor unit incorporates blades inspired by the golden eagle and albatross, enhancing airflow by 20%. This allows for quieter operation and better performance.

Coanda Airflow: A Smarter Way to Control Air

In addition to its powerful cooling and heating capabilities, the Sharp ZHU utilizes Coanda airflow control, a system designed to distribute air more evenly throughout the home. This feature ensures that no room is left too hot or too cold, allowing for consistent comfort across different spaces.

With Coanda airflow, the heat pump takes advantage of natural air patterns to direct air along walls and ceilings, optimizing air distribution and eliminating cold spots. Whether it’s a hot summer day or a frigid winter night, this system keeps the home at a comfortable temperature year-round.

Quiet and Efficient: The Perfect Addition to Any Home

Another significant advantage of the Sharp ZHU is its quiet operation. With a sound pressure level of just 22 dB(A) indoors, it’s quieter than a typical conversation, making it ideal for bedrooms, living areas, and even home offices. The outdoor unit operates at 49 dB(A), ensuring that it won't disturb the neighbors.

The inverter technology further enhances efficiency, allowing the heat pump to adjust its operation based on the temperature, reducing energy consumption and prolonging the unit’s lifespan.

Final Thoughts: Why AirGreen and Sharp ZHU Are the Perfect Match

At AirGreen, we believe in providing our clients with only the best in HVAC technology, and the Sharp ZHU 12,000 BTU mini split is a perfect example of that. This installation in Anjou not only showcases the versatility and efficiency of the Sharp ZHU but also highlights our dedication to quality craftsmanship.

From its advanced air purification to its quiet operation and environmentally friendly refrigerant, the Sharp ZHU heat pump is an ideal solution for any home in Quebec’s challenging climate. What we check on a job like this one

Each number is a point we check on site. Switch between summer and winter to watch air and heat move.

    1. Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.

    2. The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.

    3. Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.

    4. A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.

    5. The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.

    6. On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.

    7. The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.

    Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about this kind of work

    12 questions
Does a wall-mounted heat pump heat in winter?
Yes, it heats and cools. Its capacity drops in very cold weather; the operating range depends on the model and is listed on its spec sheet.
    Wall-mounted or multi-zone: how do I choose?
One wall head and one condenser outside: the direct solution for a room or an open area. For two to five rooms, a multi-zone puts one head in each room on a single condenser.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
Where it stays above the snow, clear and accessible, away from walkways. We decide it with you during the estimate.
    Are there grants?
Depending on the model and your situation, assistance programs may apply, including Hydro-Québec's LogisVert. AirGreen checks the model number before quoting an amount. See the grants.
    Do I need a permit?
Rules vary from city to city: location, distances, noise. See permits and by-laws, and we check for your address.
    How cold can it heat?
It depends on the model. According to Hydro-Québec, newer models work down to a temperature between −15 °C and −25 °C, and some cold-climate models are certified lower. The minimum temperature is on each unit's spec sheet.
    How much can I save?
Hydro-Québec says a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months. The result depends on the house, the climate and how it is used.
How is the LogisVert assistance calculated?
For ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified heat pumps, Hydro-Québec lists assistance of $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at −8 °C. AirGreen checks the exact model before quoting an amount; only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted. See the grants.
    Is it noisy?
The sound level depends on the model and is listed in decibels on each unit's spec sheet. Location matters too: when possible, we avoid putting the outdoor unit under a bedroom window.
The outdoor unit is covered in ice: is that normal?
Some frost is: the unit runs defrost cycles. Never hit the ice. If the unit stays iced up or stops heating, call us.
Does AirGreen hold the required licences?
Yes. AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, subclasses 15.8 Ventilation, 15.10 Refrigeration and 16 Electricity.
    Is the estimate free?
Yes. The on-site estimate is free and the quote follows within 24 hours. Book my free estimate.
