Installation of a Sharp ZU1 18,000 BTU Mini Split Heat Pump in LaSalle
See how our Sharp ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump transformed a LaSalle home with whisper-quiet operation and eco-friendly efficiency. Breathe better, live better!

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Harnessing the Power of Comfort and Efficiency
In the heart of LaSalle, we completed a remarkable installation of the Sharp ZU1 18,000 BTU Mini Split Heat Pump, and this project truly stands out in every sense. As an HVAC company known for precision and customer-centric solutions, we couldn’t be prouder to showcase the exceptional capabilities of this energy-efficient, ductless marvel. Let’s dive into the fascinating details that make this installation a game-changer for homeowners looking to optimize indoor comfort while minimizing environmental impact.
The Backstory: Why LaSalle?
LaSalle, a vibrant borough with a mix of historical charm and modern appeal, is home to some unique architectural challenges. When our client approached us for an installation that could combat the extreme fluctuations of the Quebec climate, we knew the Sharp ZU1 Heat Pump was the perfect fit. Designed to deliver exceptional heating performance even at frigid temperatures as low as -27°C, this unit is an ideal match for Montreal’s unpredictable weather patterns.
The Star of the Show: Sharp ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump
When it comes to choosing a mini split heat pump, Sharp's ZU1 model is not just another appliance. It’s a technological powerhouse loaded with features that make it a standout in the world of HVAC systems.
Key Specifications:
- Cooling Capacity: 18,000 BTU, ideal for maintaining a cool and comfortable home during the sweltering summers.
- Heating Capacity: Performs flawlessly at temperatures as low as -27°C, making it a perfect all-season companion.
- Sound Levels: Whisper-quiet operation with interior noise levels ranging from 25 to 49 dB(A), ensuring a peaceful home environment.
- Efficiency: An impressive SEER rating of 24.0, meaning lower energy bills and a reduced carbon footprint.
- Eco-Friendly Refrigerant: Utilizes R-32, a refrigerant known for its minimal environmental impact compared to older options like R-410A.
The Installation Journey: Precision at Every Step
We approached this project with meticulous planning. Our experienced technicians assessed the best possible location for both the indoor and outdoor units to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal disruption to the home’s aesthetic.
- Optimal Placement: The indoor unit was strategically placed in a living area that required consistent temperature control. With dimensions of 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, the sleek design of the Sharp ZU1 fit perfectly, blending seamlessly with the home’s decor.
- Outdoor Installation: Mounted securely outside, the exterior unit (dimensions: 33.47 x 13 x 27.94 inches) was positioned to facilitate unobstructed airflow while adhering to local building codes.
- Piping and Electrical: High-quality pipes (1/4 - 3/8 inches) were used, running through a discrete conduit to maintain the home’s visual appeal. The unit operates on 220V, which ensures powerful yet efficient performance.
Unique Features That Set It Apart
What makes the Sharp ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump truly special is its integration of cutting-edge technologies that prioritize both comfort and air quality.
The Magic of Plasmacluster Technology
Imagine an HVAC system that not only regulates temperature but also actively purifies the air you breathe. Sharp’s exclusive Plasmacluster Technology does just that. By emitting positive and negative ions, it neutralizes airborne bacteria, viruses, and even stubborn odors like tobacco smoke or pet dander. The result? Cleaner, healthier air circulating throughout your home.
- Air Purification: Eliminates up to 99% of airborne allergens and bacteria.
- Odor Neutralization: Effective against persistent smells, keeping your living space fresh.
- Mold Reduction: Suppresses mold growth on surfaces, enhancing overall indoor air quality.
The Environmental Impact: A Greener Choice
The choice of the R-32 refrigerant reflects Sharp’s commitment to sustainability. Compared to traditional refrigerants, R-32 has a one-third lower Global Warming Potential (GWP), reducing your household’s impact on climate change. Additionally, the heat pump’s energy-saving features, like its inverter technology, ensure optimal performance with minimal energy consumption.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.

Data read live from the airgreen.ca page of each size (NEEP / AHRI certified performance). When the title names the installed size, it is highlighted; otherwise the whole range is shown. The aid shown is today’s, using Hydro-Québec’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C); amounts quoted in the article date from its publication. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.
And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
