Take a tour of the installation
Each number is a point we check on site. Switch between summer and winter to watch air and heat move.
In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.

Our latest installation in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac featured a 15,000 BTU Sharp ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump, a perfect blend of cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly performance. This project not only enhances the home's climate control but also qualifies for a $2,172 LogisVert Grant from Hydro-Québec, making it a smart and sustainable choice for any homeowner.
Bringing Efficiency and Comfort to Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac
This particular installation involved integrating a 15,000 BTU Sharp ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump into a modern residence in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, located just outside the bustling city of Montreal. The customer was seeking a solution that would provide year-round comfort, especially during Quebec's harsh winters, where temperatures can plummet as low as -27°C. The Sharp ZU1's heating capacity and advanced features made it the perfect choice to meet these needs.
Why the Sharp ZU1 Mini Split is the Top Choice
The Sharp ZU1 is not just another mini split heat pump; it is an eco-friendly and high-performance system equipped with R-32 refrigerant, which significantly reduces its global warming potential compared to traditional refrigerants like R-22. Its energy efficiency is further complemented by a 24.0 SEER rating, ensuring cost-effective heating and cooling throughout the year. Whether in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Montreal, or other parts of the North Shore and South Shore, this system adapts to Quebec's extreme weather conditions, providing a reliable source of comfort and energy savings.
Plasmacluster Technology: Clean Air for a Healthier Home
One of the key highlights of the Sharp ZU1 is its Plasmacluster technology, which goes beyond mere temperature control. This unique system releases ions identical to those found in nature, helping to neutralize airborne bacteria, viruses, mold, and other harmful particles. For homeowners in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, this means a home that is not only comfortable but also healthier, with superior indoor air quality that stands out in the market.
The Installation Process: Precision and Expertise
At AirGreen, we approach each installation with a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. The project began with an on-site consultation to assess the home’s layout, ensuring the optimal placement of the Sharp ZU1 unit for maximum efficiency. The interior unit, with its sleek dimensions of 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, was mounted in a location that allowed the Coanda airflow control to distribute air evenly across the living spaces.
For the exterior unit, measuring 30.72 x 10.59 x 21.25 inches, we made sure to position it in a way that maximized accessibility for future maintenance while protecting it from harsh winter elements. The installation included connecting high-quality refrigerant pipes (1/4 - 3/8) and configuring the 220V electrical system to support the unit’s power needs.
Sharp ZU1: A Heat Pump Built for Quebec's Cold Climate
The Sharp ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump is designed to perform exceptionally well in cold climates, which is why it comes with Energy Star® certification for cold-climate operation. Its -27°C heating capacity ensures that homeowners will stay warm even on the coldest days, while its inverter technology adjusts the unit's output to maintain a consistent indoor temperature, thereby reducing energy consumption and utility costs.
Advanced Defrosting Features for Enhanced Reliability
Another significant advantage of the Sharp ZU1 is its hot gas pipe defrosting system, which circulates hot gas to prevent the outdoor compressor from freezing. This advanced feature significantly reduces defrosting time by up to 60%, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature even during extended cold snaps.
The Environmental Advantage: A Greener Choice for Homeowners
At AirGreen, we believe in providing solutions that are not only efficient but also environmentally responsible. The use of R-32 refrigerant in the Sharp ZU1 reduces its carbon footprint and contributes to fighting climate change. The Energy Star® certification and SEER rating of 24.0 further emphasize the unit’s energy efficiency, ensuring that homeowners can enjoy eco-friendly comfort without compromising on performance.
Qualifying for the LogisVert Grant: The Highest Available for 15,000 BTU Systems
Homeowners who choose the Sharp ZU1 benefit not only from its cutting-edge features but also from significant financial incentives. The $2,172 LogisVert Grant from Hydro-Québec is the highest available for any 15,000 BTU mini split in Quebec, making this system an economically sound choice. This grant helps offset the initial installation costs, allowing homeowners to invest in a quality system while taking advantage of government support.
Smart Connectivity and User-Friendly Features
In today’s digital age, having a smart HVAC system is more important than ever. The Sharp ZU1 offers WiFi connectivity, allowing homeowners to control the system remotely via a smartphone app. The app provides real-time updates on temperature, humidity, and energy consumption, empowering users to make informed decisions about their energy use.
GPS Interlocking for Enhanced Energy Management
One of the standout features is the GPS interlocking function, which automatically adjusts the system based on the homeowner's proximity to the house. This means that the Sharp ZU1 can prepare the home’s climate before arrival, ensuring a comfortable indoor environment while reducing energy waste.

The big day, step by step
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

What would it look like at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.

Your own project, step by step
What to do, season by season
Three habits per season for this unit. They take a few minutes and prevent many calls.
- Clean the indoor unit's filters.
- Clear leaves and debris left on the outdoor unit by winter.
- Test cooling before the first hot days.
- Clean the filters more often when the unit runs a lot.
- Keep plants away from the outdoor unit.
- Check that no water drips from the indoor unit.
- Rake the leaves around the outdoor unit.
- Test heating before the first cold days.
- Book periodic maintenance before winter.
- Keep snow away from the stand and the front of the unit.
- Let the unit defrost: it is normal.
- Never hit the ice on the fins; call us if the unit stays iced up.
Is your home ready?
Check what applies at your place. A "no" is not a refusal: it is what we sort out during the estimate.
Four statements: true or false?
It all comes down to details you have just seen.
1. In heating mode, the outdoor unit can produce water.
During defrost cycles. That water must drain away without forming ice.
2. You pick the capacity with a simple square-footage rule.
Windows, insulation, orientation and how the room is used all count. Capacity is chosen on site.
3. A multi-zone connects several indoor heads to a single condenser.
One head per room, all on the same condenser. Each room keeps its own temperature.
4. The disconnect can sit behind the patio furniture.
It must stay accessible: it is what shuts the unit off for service.
