Meticulous maintenance for restored performance
At AirGreen , we know that a simple cleaning can transform the comfort of a home. This is exactly what we demonstrated during our recent maintenance of a wall-mounted heat pump in a residence in Sainte-Julie , on Montreal's South Shore . The client contacted us after noticing a significant decrease in airflow and a slight musty odor when the unit was turned on.
Initial diagnosis: clogged filters and dirty fins
Upon arrival, we carried out a complete inspection of the indoor unit.
The first signs of dirt were visible as soon as the hood was opened:
-
Air filters saturated with fine dust and animal hair;
-
Evaporator fins covered with a greyish deposit;
-
Partially blocked drain , retaining condensation water;
-
Slight musty smell , typical of delayed maintenance.
Although the heat pump was still functional, this buildup was impairing performance, increasing energy consumption, and reducing indoor air quality.
Intervention: complete cleaning and antibacterial treatment
We carried out a complete cleaning of the wall-mounted heat pump , following a rigorous protocol in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
Step 1 – Disassembly and protection
We carefully removed the filters, deflectors and front panels.
The surrounding surfaces were protected to prevent any splashing.
Step 2 – Washing the filters
The filters were washed with warm water and biodegradable soap , then rinsed under controlled high pressure. This treatment eliminates microparticles and restores the transparency of the mesh.
Step 3 – Cleaning the evaporator
Using an environmentally friendly cleaning product specifically designed for HVAC coils , we sprayed the fins to dissolve grease and mineral deposits.
A gentle jet rinse then removed the residue, restoring the heat exchanger to its original shine.
Step 4 – Internal disinfection and cleaning of the fan
The tangential fan was brushed and rinsed with a mild antibacterial mixture, eliminating biofilms responsible for persistent odors.
A disinfectant treatment was applied inside the crankcase.
Step 5 – Unclogging the condensation drain
Using a reverse pressure pump , we cleared the drain to ensure free flow. This step prevents water leaks and bacterial growth in the tank.
Result: purified air and restored efficiency
As soon as it was restarted, the change was obvious:
-
Airflow increased by approximately 30% ;
-
more even temperature in the room;
-
Complete disappearance of odors ;
-
Optimized energy consumption thanks to efficient heat exchange.
The customer noticed improved air quality and reduced noise from the unit. These immediate improvements confirm the importance of annual maintenance, especially before the peak heating and cooling seasons.
