Laval oil grant: your questions
How much does the City of Laval give?
Up to $2,000 for a single-family home heated 100% with oil ($1,000 for dual energy). $1,700 for a mobile home, $1,400 for a semi-detached or row house or a condo, $1,400 per unit for a duplex or triplex, and $900 per unit for 4 to 30 units, 20 units at most.
Does a wall heat pump qualify?
Yes. Laval requires a new system running only on electricity or renewable energy, and names air-source heating. The City’s page does not require a central heat pump.
Do I need approval before the work?
No. You apply after the work, through Mon dossier, with the required documents.
Is there a deadline?
The City’s page shows none (checked September 23, 2026). Work done since September 5, 2017 is eligible.
Who can remove the burner and the tank?
Laval requires a business holding an RBQ licence: an electrician member of the CMEQ (subclass 16) or a contractor member of the CMMTQ (15.1, 15.3 or 15.4). With AirGreen, a licensed specialist removes the burner and tank and gives you the certificate.
What about Laval’s oil tax?
Since 2024: $100 per oil system and $50 per dual-energy system, every year (by-law L-12964). Once the system is removed, declare it: the refund is prorated, for the current or the previous fiscal year.
Can I combine it with LogisVert?
It is not confirmed. The LogisVert guide (v1.10) excludes equipment for which another government body has already paid a grant, and Laval asks for the heat pump invoice. Get it confirmed by Hydro-Québec (1 833 396-1888) and the City (311) before counting on both.
I am a tenant. Can I apply?
No. Only the owner of the home can apply for the grant.
Can I replace my furnace with a new oil one?
No. Since December 31, 2023, an oil unit can no longer be replaced with an oil or fossil-fuel unit in an existing residential building (CQLR Q-2, r. 1.1).
My home has hot-water heating. What are my options?
Wall heat pumps for most of the heating and, if needed, an electric boiler to keep the radiators. The boiler is installed by a partner who is a CMMTQ member (subclass 15.4).
How much will I save?
The calculator on this page gives a ballpark using the oil price in Laval (236.53¢/L, week of September 21, 2026). Natural Resources Canada measured an average of $1,377 per year for households that switched from oil to a heat pump.
Who do I contact at the City?
Call 311, or 450 978-8000 from outside Laval, Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Does the program have a budget or an end date?
The City’s page mentions no budget, no end date and no “while funds last” (checked September 23, 2026). A city can change its program: check again just before you start.
What ends the oil tax?
According to the City, you are exempt if the tank has been removed, if the oil system is permanently out of use (disconnected, burner removed), or if the tank is still there but the furnace was replaced with one that does not use oil.
What is a dual-energy system?
A system that alternates between electricity and oil. Laval pays half the amount of a 100% oil system, and the tax is $50 per unit instead of $100.
