Quick facts
Armaflex foam insulation tape from Armacell is 1/8 in thick, 2 in wide and 30 ft long. It is used to close the joints of tube insulation and to wrap the small fittings on a refrigerant line, where cutting a piece from a sheet would take too long.
Closing joints where condensation starts
On a suction line, insulation is only as good as its joints. One poorly closed end or a flare fitting left bare is enough for humid air to touch the cold copper and for water to run along the line. The tape covers these spots and gives visible lines a clean finish. It is also used to close the slit in insulation that has been cut to fit around a line already in place.
Where to use it
- Butt joints between two lengths of Armaflex insulation
- Flare fittings and small valves
- Slits in insulation installed on an existing line
- Touch-ups on slightly damaged insulation
The right way to install it
Clean and dry the surfaces. First glue the joints with Armaflex 520 adhesive, then wrap the tape with an overlap, without stretching it too much. The tape complements the insulation: on a large valve or a very cold line, cut a piece from Armaflex sheet and finish with the tape. Outdoors, protect the whole assembly from the sun.

What to know before installing
- Surfaces must be clean and dry before applying.
- Wrap with an overlap, without pulling the tape too tight.
- The tape completes the insulation: it does not replace tube or sheet on a cold line.
- Glue the joints with Armaflex 520 adhesive first, then cover them with tape.

Frequently asked questions
Is tape enough to insulate a fitting?
It suits small fittings and joints. On a large valve or a very cold line, cut a piece from Armaflex sheet and finish with the tape.
Can it be used outdoors?
Like the insulation, it needs protection from sunlight. Outdoors, cover the assembly with a suitable finish.
Do I still need to glue the joints?
Yes. Glue butt joints with Armaflex 520 adhesive; the tape goes on top to close them.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our technicians insulate and finish refrigerant lines on every heat pump installation in Greater Montréal.
