A service call for restored comfort
At AirGreen , we were recently called to Sainte-Julie, on Montreal's South Shore, to work on a Goodman wall-mounted air conditioner installed above a patio door. The customer contacted us after noticing that the unit was no longer producing cold air and that a slight vibrating noise was being heard each time the compressor started.
Diagnosis: A clogged system and a tired fan
Upon arrival, we conducted a thorough inspection of the Goodman wall-mounted air conditioner. This model, installed over 10 years ago, showed typical signs of wear:
-
filters clogged with dust,
-
dirty evaporator fins,
-
indoor fan motor producing irregular noise,
-
slight refrigerant leak detected at copper pipe connection.
These combined problems resulted in decreased energy efficiency and loss of cooling power .
Step 1: Deep cleaning the indoor unit
We started by disassembling the front panel and the fan housing to perform a complete cleaning :
-
degreasing the turbine,
-
steam washing of the evaporator coil,
-
disinfection of the condensate tray and drain to eliminate any mold buildup,
-
replacement of the air filter with an original Goodman compatible model.
This cleaning helped restore optimal airflow and eliminate odors that had settled in the room.
Step 2: Repair and recharge the refrigeration circuit
We then checked the refrigerant pressure and confirmed a slow leak at the flare connection on the indoor unit side.
After tightening, we carried out:
-
a nitrogen leak test,
-
a complete vacuum draw of the system,
-
then a recharge of R410A refrigerant according to the manufacturer's specifications Goodman.
Once the load stabilized, the compressor resumed quiet and smooth operation.
Step 3: Replacing the Interior Fan Motor
The fan motor showed signs of mechanical fatigue (worn bearing, vibration at startup). We installed a new genuine Goodman motor , recalibrated to ensure smooth and quiet rotation.
This replacement has significantly improved the sound comfort of the system.
Step 4: Electrical Check and Final Calibration
Finally, we checked:
-
supply voltages,
-
the state of the starting capacitor ,
-
how the wall thermostat works.
After these adjustments, the air conditioner reached full performance: 18°C in less than 20 minutes in the main room, proof of a return to optimal efficiency.
Result: restored comfort and improved energy efficiency
Thanks to this complete intervention , the Sainte-Julie client has regained a comfortable indoor climate and reduced energy consumption .
We recommended annual preventive maintenance , particularly before each summer, to maintain the performance of his device and extend its lifespan.
