Sharp wall-mounted air conditioner repair in Sainte-Dorothée

A condensate leak that revealed a hidden installation problem

At AirGreen , we recently completed a complex repair on a Sharp wall-mounted air conditioner in a residence in the Sainte-Dorothée neighborhood of Laval . The customer contacted us after noticing moisture on the wall beneath their indoor unit, as well as an unusual dripping noise whenever the air conditioner was operating in cooling mode.

Upon arrival, we quickly confirmed that the leak was coming from the condensate drain pan located inside the wall-mounted unit. However, upon removing the front cover, our technician discovered a more concerning detail: the drain pipe had been incorrectly positioned behind the wall during the initial installation.

Accurate diagnosis: an incorrectly inclined drain and modified structural support

To access the pipe, it was necessary to remove the wall panel to which the unit was attached. As shown in the photo above, the system was installed in a recessed alcove , supported by two horizontal wooden beams . This type of installation, although aesthetically discreet, often complicates maintenance and promotes errors in the drain slope.

We found that:

  • the condensation pipe was not inclined outwards;

  • a 90° bend caused water to stagnate;

  • and a buildup of algae inside the pipe was preventing proper flow.

Intervention: dismantling, cleaning and correction of drainage

Our technician undertook a complete correction of the drainage system :

  1. Partial disassembly of the Sharp wall unit to clear the pipe.

  2. Complete cleaning of the drain using an air compressor and a biodegradable disinfectant agent.

  3. Reinstallation of the pipe with a slope in accordance with Sharp standards (minimum 1 cm per meter).

  4. Addition of a safety siphon to prevent any odor return.

  5. Fixing refrigerant and electrical lines in an insulated trunking to prevent vibrations.

During this operation, we also checked the condition of the exterior drain pipe , which is often overlooked during wall installations. It was slightly blocked by an insect nest—a common cause of water backup in wall systems.

Final step: performance testing and calibration

Once the drain was realigned, we turned the Sharp air conditioner back on. After a few minutes, the condensation flow returned to normal to the outside. We then measured:

  • blowing temperature : 9.8°C;

  • suction temperature : 24.6°C;

  • a difference of 14.8°C , perfectly in line with Sharp's performance specifications.

The customer immediately noticed an improvement in interior comfort and the complete absence of leaks.

Result: a refurbished system and restored peace of mind

Thanks to this intervention, the Sharp wall-mounted air conditioner now operates at full efficiency, with:

  • stable and silent flow of condensates;

  • better cooling performance ;

  • and no trace of humidity on the walls.

We also took care to reinforce the wall support , adding an anti-vibration reinforcement plate to protect the wooden structure.
