Repair of a Midea VRF system in Sainte-Dorothée

Precision intervention for a large capacity HVAC system

At AirGreen , we are regularly called upon to work on complex HVAC systems installed in mixed-use buildings. Recently, our team was called upon in Sainte-Dorothée (Laval) to diagnose and repair a Midea VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system that served several zones of a large residential building.

The client had noticed a gradual decline in air conditioning performance in certain areas, accompanied by an unusual noise coming from the outdoor condenser. With the high summer temperatures, the situation required a rapid and effective response.

Initial Diagnosis: Understanding the Complexity of VRF

Upon arrival, we conducted a thorough inspection of the system's two outdoor units , installed side by side on a concrete slab against a brick wall. These two Midea VRF condensers are interconnected to serve a multi-zone indoor network via a variable flow refrigerant system.

Our technicians carried out:

  • a check of the R-410A refrigerant pressure ,

  • a communication test between master and slave modules ,

  • a visual inspection of the coils and fans ,

  • and a check of the electrical connections as well as the control boards.

The analysis quickly revealed a partial loss of communication between the two VRF modules, caused by damaged interconnect wiring near the wall-mounted control box. This anomaly prevented the compressors from synchronizing, resulting in inefficient cycles and abnormal energy consumption.

Repair: optimized system recommissioning

To fix the issue, our team has:

  1. Replaced the interconnecting cable segment (signal and power) between the two outdoor units.

  2. Cleaned the coils with a gentle jet and biodegradable product to improve heat exchange.

  3. Checked operating pressures after restart.

  4. Reset the VRF system to synchronize the modules and recalibrate the management of the interior zones.

Once the repair was completed, both compressors restarted in perfect synchronization, and the indoor units regained exemplary thermal stability.

Result: comfort restored and efficiency restored

After 30 minutes of monitored operation, the evaporating and condensing temperatures returned to the Midea nominal ranges. The customer immediately noticed:

  • uniform cooling throughout the building,

  • a reduction in external noise ,

  • and a reduction in electricity consumption according to the control panel readings.

We also recommended biannual maintenance to the customer for this type of VRF system, to prevent corrosion of connections and degradation of electronic boards due to humidity and frequent thermal cycles.

Why entrust your VRF system to AirGreen?

Midea VRF systems are among the most efficient on the market, but their complexity requires in-depth expertise in electronic diagnostics and variable refrigerant management . At AirGreen , we have specific diagnostic equipment (Midea Service Tool interfaces, digital sensors, electronic leak detectors) and technicians trained directly on the platforms of the main manufacturers.

We operate throughout Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and the South Shore , for all types of HVAC repairs , whether it involves wall-mounted heat pumps, central systems, multi-zones or VRFs .

With our rigorous protocols and sustainability-focused approach, we not only ensure rapid return to service , but also extend the life of your equipment.

In summary

This Midea VRF repair in Sainte-Dorothée demonstrates the importance of accurate diagnosis and professional maintenance for modern HVAC systems. A simple communication failure between modules can cause significant efficiency losses.

At AirGreen , we combine expertise, technology and rigor to offer reliable and sustainable interventions to our residential and commercial clients across Greater Montreal.
