Repair of a Daikin wall-mounted heat pump in Outremont

An intervention at height on a residential HVAC system

At AirGreen , we were recently called to Outremont to diagnose a Daikin wall-mounted heat pump installed on a brick wall of a two-story residential building. The customer had reported a loss of efficiency in heating mode , accompanied by intermittent noise coming from the outdoor unit, which was mounted on galvanized steel wall brackets.

This type of installation, typical of Montreal duplexes and triplexes, requires specific expertise, because the elevated positioning exposes the machine to mechanical stress, thermal variations and increased ice accumulation during winter defrost cycles.

Diagnosis: noise and unstable performance

Our team first performed a complete visual inspection of the Daikin heat pump. Although the housing appeared intact, we noted several anomalies:

  • Excessive vibrations transmitted to the wall, caused by a slight misalignment of the metal support.

  • Accumulation of dirt on the condenser fins, limiting heat exchange.

  • Traces of oil around the discharge pipe connection, indicating a micro-leak of refrigerant.

After connecting our digital pressure gauges, the measured pressures confirmed an undercharge of R-410A refrigerant, explaining the decrease in thermal efficiency .

Repair: Restore original performance

AirGreen technicians have undertaken a series of targeted actions:

  1. Complete cleaning of the outdoor coil , using a non-corrosive biodegradable cleaner for aluminum.

  2. Realigned the wall bracket and added anti-vibration spacers to eliminate noise transfer into the masonry.

  3. Leak detection using nitrogen tracer : the leak came from a flare fitting slightly damaged by frost.

  4. Replacement of the seal and tightening of the connection , followed by a complete vacuum to clean the circuit.

  5. Accurate R-410A charging according to Daikin nameplate.

  6. Final pressure and temperature test in extended heating mode.

At the end of the intervention, the heat pump regained stable air flow and optimal operating pressure , with performance close to factory values.

Results: comfort and silence restored

The owner noticed the next day a better stability of the interior temperature and a significant reduction in the noise perceived in the room adjacent to the wall.
Thanks to the support correction and gas rebalancing, the system now operates more quietly and with a COP (coefficient of performance) restored to 3.8 , i.e. energy efficiency in line with Daikin standards.

We also recommended seasonal preventative cleaning , which is particularly important for units installed high up and exposed to urban dust.

AirGreen Safety and Best Practices

A wall installation more than 2 meters above the ground requires suitable safety equipment and precise technical know-how . At AirGreen, we always apply CSA and Daikin procedures to guarantee:

  • lasting mechanical stability ,

  • efficient condensate drainage ,

  • and secure access during future interviews.

We also use anti-freeze heating cables and UV-resistant insulating sleeves to extend the life of exposed refrigerant lines.
