A Typical Service Call Turned into an HVAC Success
At AirGreen , we frequently receive calls for Fujitsu Halcyon wall units in Montreal, known for their reliability... but which, like any device, can sometimes have failures related to wear, climate variations or initial installation.
That day, our team went to the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood, where a customer reported that their Fujitsu heat pump was no longer blowing hot or cold air, and that an unusual noise was coming from the outdoor unit.
Diagnosis: an external fan stopped
Upon arrival, we carried out a complete visual inspection.
The outdoor unit, installed on wall brackets , showed signs of wear: slight vibrations of the chassis, dirt accumulated on the front grille, and some graffiti on the cover (classic for installations overlooking an alley).
However, the main problem was quickly confirmed: the external fan was no longer starting .
After some electrical tests, our technicians noted:
-
Correct voltage at the supply terminal ;
-
A control board that sent the signal correctly;
-
But a faulty fan motor , probably blocked by a worn bearing.
Step 1: Check the board and capacitor
Before any replacement, we took care to test the capacitor associated with the fan motor.
Result: the measured capacitance was less than 2 µF on a 4 µF model — a clear sign of weakness.
We then checked the Fujitsu electronic board , a typical model of the Halcyon series: no visual damage, intact fuses, no traces of short circuit. The diagnosis was therefore confirmed: capacitor and motor to be replaced .
Step 2: Replace the fan motor and capacitor
Our AirGreen team carried out a complete replacement of the outdoor fan motor, using a genuine Fujitsu part , to ensure the unit's performance and durability.
At the same time, we replaced the aging capacitor, cleaned the grille, and tightened the wall brackets to prevent any future vibration.
List of interventions:
-
Outdoor Fan Motor Replacement (Fujitsu OEM)
-
Replacing the 4 µF start capacitor
-
Cleaning the outer coil with compressed air
-
Checking refrigerant pressure (R410A)
-
Complete test in heating and cooling mode
Result: restored performance and reassured customer
As soon as the heat pump was restarted, the airflow became powerful and constant again .
Tests confirmed a stable discharge temperature and thermal efficiency in line with Fujitsu manufacturer specifications .
The customer was pleasantly surprised to see his system return to efficiency without a complete replacement.
Maintenance advice given to the customer
We recommended to the owner:
-
To have the internal filters cleaned every two months;
-
Have electrical connections and pressures checked annually;
-
To prevent plants or debris from obstructing outdoor ventilation;
-
And to schedule annual AirGreen preventive maintenance , essential to extend the life of Fujitsu systems.
