A drainage problem that led to water infiltration
When a customer in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , Montreal, contacted us about a water problem under their LG wall unit , we immediately scheduled a visit. In the middle of summer, water infiltration from a wall-mounted air conditioner or heat pump can quickly damage a wall, floor, or furniture. At AirGreen , we know that every minute counts.
Diagnosis: a blocked condensate drain
On-site, our certified technician observed an LG Neo Plasma model , installed in the corner of the living room, just above a window. The unit was operating normally in cooling mode, but small droplets were escaping from under the hood during each cycle.
After removing the front panel, the cause of the problem quickly became apparent:
-
The condensate tray was overflowing,
-
The drain pipe was clogged with dust and microbial deposits ,
-
And a slight misalignment of the drain hose caused water to back up into the unit.
This situation is common, especially in installations located near windows exposed to the sun, where the temperature difference creates more condensation.
Repair steps: a complete maintenance of the drainage circuit
To restore the system to optimal operation, we carried out a comprehensive intervention in four stages :
-
Cleaning the condensate tray using a non-corrosive antibacterial agent.
-
Complete clearance of the drain pipe by suction and injection of compressed air.
-
Checking the slope of the drain to ensure correct gravitational flow.
-
Cleaning the evaporator coil and tangential fan to remove accumulated dust.
We then performed a full test of the cooling and dehumidification cycle. The unit was properly draining water to the outside , confirming that the issue was resolved.
Result: restored performance and protected wall
The customer immediately noticed the difference:
-
no more leaks,
-
a regular air flow,
-
and a significant reduction in noise generated by the fan.
We recommended biannual preventative maintenance , especially for homes located in urban areas like Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , where ambient dust and pollution can quickly clog ducts and filters.
Best practices to prevent future leaks
At AirGreen , we advise our customers to watch for a few simple signs:
-
water accumulation under the air conditioner,
-
smell of damp or mold,
-
or gurgling noise when starting.
Regular cleaning of the condensate drain and air filters can prevent 80% of minor breakdowns on wall-mounted units.
