Repair of a Midea wall-mounted heat pump in Pointe-Claire

A precise service call in a tight space

At AirGreen , we are often called upon to work in complex environments where every detail counts. This was the case during this repair of a Midea wall-mounted heat pump installed in a narrow technical room in Pointe-Claire , on the West Shore of Montreal.

The outdoor unit, securely mounted on a concrete block wall, was experiencing an electrical malfunction that prevented the compressor from starting. The customer, a commercial building owner, had noticed a complete lack of air conditioning or heating for several days, despite repeated attempts with the remote control.

Diagnosis: A power and signal problem

Our RBQ-certified technicians quickly identified that the heat pump was not receiving adequate voltage . The installation, powered by a junction box attached to the wall with a metal shielded cable, showed signs of internal corrosion at the electrical connections . This oxidation, amplified by the humidity in the room, had caused an intermittent false contact , causing the unit to shut down.

We have proceeded to:

  • A complete check of the wiring between the outdoor and indoor unit;

  • A continuity and insulation test on the power supply circuit;

  • A visual inspection of the main electronic module.

The verdict was clear: an oxidized and slightly loose power connector was preventing proper communication between the electronic boards.

Intervention: replacement and securing of wiring

After isolating the power source, our team replaced the defective section of cable with new flexible metal conduit (BX), which complies with CSA and RBQ requirements.
Connections were tightened with waterproof terminals, and additional protection was added to prevent future moisture infiltration.

We then restarted the system: the Midea heat pump started working immediately, displaying optimal performance parameters.

Result: comfort restored and reliability assured

The customer was able to observe the return of a stable flow of warm air to the space in less than 15 minutes. A thermal check using an infrared probe confirmed that the compressor and heat exchanger were operating normally.

We recommended a complete annual inspection of the system, particularly for installations located in humid or partially enclosed areas, to prevent the risk of electrical corrosion.
