Repair of a Midea EVOX R32 12000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump in Sainte-Julie

Rapid diagnosis and intervention AirGreen

At AirGreen , we were recently called to Sainte-Julie for a Midea EVOX R32 12000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump that was showing two typical symptoms: reduced efficiency and abnormal mechanical noise coming from the outdoor fan.
Upon arrival, our technician found that the outdoor unit was only operating intermittently, causing significant temperature variations in the residence.

Initial inspection: a telltale noise

After a full start-up test, we observed irregular fan rotation accompanied by a metallic clicking noise. Access to the unit revealed that the protective cover had been improperly closed during previous maintenance not performed by AirGreen, allowing water infiltration to accumulate on the fan motor .
Consequence: corrosion of the front bearing and imbalance of the propeller , hence the vibrations observed.

Step 1: Complete diagnosis of the HVAC circuit

Our specialists carried out a series of checks:

  • R32 gas pressures : slightly lower than standard (79 PSI instead of 110).

  • Supply voltage : stable at 230 V, so no electrical anomalies.

  • Motor capacitor : test successful.

  • Control board : visual inspection without any trace of short circuit.

The diagnosis confirmed a micro-leak at the expansion valve , explaining the partial loss of refrigerant and therefore the drop in performance.

Step 2: Mechanical repair and upgrade

Our technicians carried out:

  1. Complete replacement of the exterior ventilation motor , new generation sealed bearing.

  2. Deep cleaning of coils with low pressure jet.

  3. Renovation of the seal around the expansion valve.

  4. Full R32 recharge according to Midea specifications.

  5. Rebalancing and dynamic testing of the fan (visible in the photo above).

Once the assembly was closed and fixed on its anti-vibration supports, the fan regained a smooth and silent rotation , essential to the longevity of the compressor.

Step 3: Calibration and validation of performance

After recommissioning:

  • Blowing temperature: 18°C in air conditioning mode after 6 minutes.

  • Stabilized pressure: 112 PSI .

  • Measured noise: 39 dB , in accordance with Midea EVOX standards.

  • Instantaneous consumption: 710 W at full load.

These data confirm the return to full energy efficiency of the system.

Results and customer satisfaction

The customer, worried about a complete replacement, was relieved to learn that the heat pump could be repaired reliably and sustainably .
Thanks to our intervention, interior comfort was immediately restored , with fresh and constant air, and almost silent operation.

AirGreen tips to avoid a similar breakdown

To prevent this type of situation:

  • Schedule annual preventative maintenance before summer and before winter.

  • Always check that the hood is completely closed after each intervention.

  • Avoid pressure washing outdoor coils.

  • Entrust all handling of refrigerant to technicians certified by the RBQ .

At AirGreen, we emphasize proactive maintenance because it extends the life of HVAC systems and keeps them running at peak energy efficiency.
