Repair of a Shinco wall-mounted heat pump in Sainte-Thérèse

A double intervention on two faulty outdoor units

At AirGreen , we were recently contacted by the owner of a small commercial building in Sainte-Thérèse , on Montreal's North Shore. Their Shinco wall-mounted HVAC system, consisting of two twin outdoor units , had not been working properly for several weeks. Tenants were complaining of insufficient cooling and abnormal noise coming from the rear facade of the building.

Initial observation: two external units affected

Upon our arrival, our technicians noticed that the two Shinco wall-mounted condensers were installed side by side, fixed to a metal structure on the second floor.
After an initial visual inspection, several anomalies were evident:

  • Significant accumulation of dirt on the fins of both condensers.

  • Presence of a cyclical metallic noise , typical of an unbalanced fan .

  • One of the units would not start at all, while the second would cycle between starting and stopping.

These symptoms suggested an electrical failure combined with fouling of the heat dissipation system .

Step 1: Electrical inspection and site security

Our technicians first cut off the power to both condensers to ensure a safe intervention.
Using a multimeter, we have:

  • Checked the input voltage at the compressor terminals.

  • Checked the starting capacitors and control relays .

  • Tested the continuity of the power wires connecting the indoor units.

Result: On the first unit, the main capacitor showed a weakened capacitance of 8 µF instead of the required 15 µF. On the second, the electronic board showed traces of oxidation due to water infiltration from the top of the case .

Step 2: Deep cleaning of the condensers

Before any repairs, it was imperative to restore air circulation . We carried out a complete cleaning using a biodegradable product and a low-pressure rinse, allowing the fins to be cleared without deforming them.
The cleaning revealed severe fouling caused by industrial dust from a nearby workshop, a common problem in commercial areas.

After drying, a protective anti-corrosion treatment was applied to the metal surfaces to extend the life of the condensers.

Step 3: Replacement and Repair of Components

The repairs then focused on:

  • Replacing the starting capacitor of the first unit with a genuine Shinco part.

  • Reconditioning of internal wiring and changing of control board on the second unit.

  • Tightening and insulating electrical terminals , often responsible for minor short circuits.

We also balanced the condenser fans , whose blades were slightly misaligned. This operation eliminated abnormal vibrations and noises.

Step 4: Performance Testing and Calibration

Once both systems were restarted, specific measurements were taken:

  • Refrigeration circuit pressure : stable at 140 psi at rest, 260 psi under load.

  • Blown air temperature : 7°C after 10 minutes.

  • Power consumption : reduced by 18% after cleaning and replacing parts.

  • Sound level : 12 dB lower than the initial measurement.

Both heat pumps have returned to full capacity, ensuring uniform air conditioning throughout the offices and building premises.

Maintenance advice provided to the customer

To prevent further accumulation of dust and moisture, we recommended:

  • An annual exterior cleaning before each summer.

  • Installation of a protective canopy over the condensers to limit water infiltration.

  • A preventive electrical inspection every two years.

The customer chose to add this equipment to their AirGreen maintenance plan , guaranteeing regular monitoring by our team.

Result: restored efficiency and peace of mind

Thanks to this dual intervention, both Shinco units have returned to optimal performance. Building users once again benefit from constant and quiet cooling , and energy consumption has significantly decreased.
An exemplary operation that illustrates AirGreen's ability to intervene effectively on multi-unit HVAC systems , whether residential or commercial.
