Support strength

The floor in this room was finished with wood flooring. We therefore had to avoid any improper contact or movement that could mark the surface. The unit’s base was positioned securely so that its weight would be distributed evenly.
Condensate slope and drainage
In cooling mode, a PTAC removes some of the moisture present in the indoor air. This moisture turns into condensate inside the unit. The system must allow this water to drain as designed by the manufacturer.
An improper slope can cause several problems:
- water accumulating in the pan;
- overflowing toward the interior;
- water noises;
- premature corrosion;
- odor development;
- increased humidity around the unit.
We therefore check the sleeve’s level and the planned drainage direction before finalizing the installation. An excessive slope should never be created arbitrarily, since some models use part of the condensate to improve the efficiency of the outdoor heat exchanger.
Sealing around the wall sleeve
The area around the sleeve is one of the most important points in a PTAC installation. A small opening between the wall and the frame may be enough to create an infiltration of cold air in winter. Curtains must be secured so they cannot be drawn toward the grille. The top of the PTAC must not be used as a permanent shelf either. The control panel, air outlet, and service openings must remain accessible.
A power supply that must match the unit
In this installation, the power cable is visible near the unit. Depending on the model, a PTAC may use a 120, 208, or 230/240-volt power supply. The voltage, minimum circuit ampacity, and maximum protection must be verified on the unit's nameplate.
The brand alone is not enough to determine the electrical requirements. Two FORESTAIR units with a similar appearance may require different circuits depending on their capacity, compressor, and whether they have auxiliary electric heating.
Before any installation, we specifically check:
- the rated voltage;
- the circuit's minimum ampacity;
- the circuit breaker rating;
- the outlet configuration;

- proper grounding.
Using an extension cord with a PTAC should be avoided. The unit must be connected to a suitable outlet installed on a compliant circuit. An undersized extension cord can overheat, cause a voltage drop, and damage the compressor.
Startup and Operation Verification

Airflow Control

A PTAC filter is generally located behind the front grille. Since the unit is installed near the floor, it can quickly accumulate dust, textile fibers, and pet hair.
A clogged filter reduces airflow and may cause:
