Careful integration into a room with a high ceiling, designed for comfort and silence
At AirGreen , we design each HVAC installation as a custom project. In this Plateau-Mont-Royal home, the challenge was to install a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in a room with high ceilings , with a floor-to-ceiling window equipped with a curtain rod. The goal: to ensure precise cooling in the summer and stable heating support in the mid-seasons, without compromising the aesthetics or quietness of the room.
Why Gree is essential here
Choosing a Gree unit meets three customer requirements:
-
Energy efficient to reduce operating costs compared to a portable air conditioner.
-
Quiet operation to preserve the tranquility of a room.
-
Four-season capability (heating and cooling function) in a discreet format.
In this residential configuration, we remain within a typical capacity range of 9,000 to 12,000 BTU for a standard room with a high ceiling. While the exact model is not visible , the installation nevertheless follows the same installation and commissioning standards as for the most common Gree series in Montreal housing.
Technical reading of the part and positioning
Ceiling height
The room has a higher than average air volume. We therefore position the unit in the upper part , centered above the window lintel, in order to exploit the natural stratification and obtain even diffusion along the opposite wall.
Curtain management
Curtains can deflect the airflow from the wall-mounted air conditioner . We adjust the angle of the directional louver so that it blows under the rod band, with a horizontal sweep that covers the sleeping area without creating a direct draft.
Distances and clearances
The unit's size requires side clearances for air intake. We maintain free space around the sides and bottom of the unit to maximize flow and facilitate maintenance (filter cleaning, evaporator inspection).
Route of lines and drilling: clean, short, reversible
Through drilling
A single, low-slope hole is made behind the unit for the refrigerant pipes , communication cable and condensate drain . In a bedroom, the issue is as much acoustic as aesthetic: we use discreet white capping and a sealed bulkhead to prevent any infiltration of outside air.
Length and radius of curvature
The line length is optimized (approximately 2 to 3 m in this case) to limit pressure losses and respect the bending radii of the insulated copper tubes. This results in better performance and an external compressor that "forces" less.
Gravity drainage
The elevated installation allows for gravity drainage of condensate. We ensure a regular slope, an anti-siphon , and a maintenance access point. In the event of future constraints (e.g., redevelopment), the addition of a lifting pump remains possible without major rework.
An exterior as neat as the interior
Although the photo above shows the interior header, the quality of an HVAC installation can also be judged from the outside:
-
Outdoor unit support : on wall brackets or on an anti-vibration base depending on the facade, in order to decouple vibrations and preserve acoustic comfort.
-
Clearances : respect rear and side distances for good ventilation of the condenser .
-
Climate protection : positioning that limits snow accumulation and facilitates defrosting in winter.
-
Discreet path : the connections are covered on the facade, tinted if necessary to match the existing covering.
Key steps in AirGreen installation
-
Technical visit and validation of thermal loads : taking measurements, evaluation of the volume of the room, solar exposure, insulation, ambient noise.
-
Marking and fixing the plate : anchors adapted to the support (wood, brick, gypsum with uprights), level control to avoid flow noises.
-
Drilling and capping : small diameter through hole, waterproof sheath , coordinated interior/exterior capping .
-
Passage and brazing of lines : precise bending, nitrogen brazing , deep vacuum (<500 microns) to guarantee a clean and dry circuit.
-
Electrical connections : dedicated circuit to the panel, calibrated circuit breaker and proximity switch to the outdoor unit, RBQ/CSA compliant.
-
Commissioning : opening of the fluid, pressure control, superheating/subcooling measurements , verification of intensities and blown temperatures.
-
User settings : modes, speeds, flow direction, programming and HVAC maintenance tips.
Results: stable comfort and controlled acoustics
-
Even temperature : the projection of air at the top breaks the cold wall effect of the window and avoids annoying stratifications in a high room.
-
Quiet : The Gree wall-mounted heat pump is set to fan speeds suitable for sleep, with minimal noise levels .
-
Savings : thanks to the inverter , the machine modulates its power to maintain the set point with reduced consumption .
-
Versatility : in mid-season, the heating mode ensures rapid comfort without starting a more energy-intensive central system.
AirGreen tips for this type of room
Air settings
For a wall-mounted air conditioner above a window, we recommend orienting the louver slightly upward in cooling mode to promote air mixing, and downward in heating mode to bring heat to the occupied area.
Interview
-
Filters : clean every 4 to 8 weeks during periods of intensive use.
-
Battery : annual inspection, dusting and disinfection if necessary.
-
Exterior : maintaining free space around the condenser, clearing snow in winter.
Points of vigilance
-
Avoid blocking the air intake (furniture, curtains too close).
-
Do not obstruct the condensate drain during decorative work.
-
Program an automatic speed at night to limit variations and noise.
Grants and Eligibility
Several Gree wall-mounted heat pumps available on the market boast high efficiencies and low-temperature performance. Grant eligibility, however, depends on the exact model (SEER2/HSPF2/SCOP) and the program's current criteria. During our visits, we systematically check:
-
the power adapted to the room,
-
the level of performance ,
-
the necessary supporting documents (invoices, AHRI ).
Thus, our customers in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, North Shore and South Shore receive comprehensive support to maximize the available assistance when the chosen equipment is eligible.
What this achievement says about our method
This installation on the Plateau-Mont-Royal illustrates our approach:
-
Detailed analysis of volumes and constraints (high ceiling, carpentry, aesthetics).
-
Impeccable installation on the refrigeration and electrical side for durability .
-
Ergonomics of use : adjustments, advice, maintenance monitoring.
