Installation of a SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump in Saint-Laurent
Experience the pinnacle of comfort with our SHARP ZU1 installation in Saint-Laurent. With heating down to -27°C and whisper-quiet operation, it’s efficiency redefined.

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Delivering Unmatched Comfort and Efficiency in Extreme Conditions
When our team at AirGreen took on this exciting project in Saint-Laurent, we knew we were about to make a significant difference in the lives of our customers. The task? To install a SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump, a system that promises superior efficiency, even in the coldest of winters, with a heating capacity rated for performance as low as -27°C. Here’s a peek into how we ensured our client received the ultimate comfort and energy efficiency that SHARP technology offers.
The Ultimate Heating and Cooling Solution
Choosing the 18,000 BTU SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump was a strategic decision aimed at combining cutting-edge technology with robust performance. Designed to thrive in the harsh Canadian climate, this unit doesn’t just deliver heating and cooling but also ensures that air quality remains impeccable, thanks to SHARP’s proprietary Plasmacluster Ion technology.
Key Features of the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump
- Cooling Capacity: An impressive 18,000 BTU, perfect for larger spaces that need efficient cooling during scorching summers.
- Heating Capacity: Operates efficiently at temperatures as low as -27°C, making it ideal for Saint-Laurent’s coldest days.
- Energy Star® Certified: Achieves an exceptional 24.0 SEER, which translates to massive energy savings.
- Integrated WiFi Control: Offers complete temperature management from the convenience of your smartphone.
- Quiet Operation: Produces minimal noise, with an interior sound pressure level as low as 25 dB(A)—about as quiet as a whisper.

A Unique Installation Setting
Our installation site in Saint-Laurent presented a few unique challenges. The space, a lovely residential dining room, needed seamless integration of the indoor unit to blend with the home’s aesthetic. Given the sleek design of the SHARP ZU1, it was a perfect fit, adding a touch of modernity while staying unobtrusive.
We mounted the interior unit, with precise attention to the room’s layout, ensuring optimal air distribution. The dimensions of the indoor unit, measuring 41.42 inches in length, 9.80 inches in depth, and 12.44 inches in height, were carefully considered. The goal was to ensure that our installation enhanced the space without compromising comfort.
Tackling the Saint-Laurent Winters with SHARP’s Innovation
The SHARP ZU1 Mini Split is engineered for homes that face the harshest winters. Saint-Laurent is no stranger to frigid temperatures, and with this unit’s ability to heat effectively at -27°C, our clients can rest easy knowing that they are well-equipped for the coldest nights. The innovative HOT GAS PIPE system ensures the exterior unit doesn’t freeze, maintaining performance efficiency.
Why SHARP’s Plasmacluster Ion Technology Stands Out
Indoor air quality is crucial, and SHARP’s Plasmacluster technology excels at purifying the air. By emitting positive and negative ions, the system neutralizes airborne bacteria, viruses, and mold, contributing to a healthier living environment. In our Saint-Laurent project, this was a significant bonus, especially for homeowners mindful of air quality.
Maximizing Energy Savings
In addition to delivering exceptional comfort, the SHARP ZU1 system is engineered to be highly energy-efficient. With a SEER rating of 24.0, this mini split minimizes energy consumption, reducing electricity bills. The system’s inverter technology also adapts in real-time to the room's temperature needs, eliminating energy waste.
A Quick Look at the Technical Specifications
- Piping Dimensions: 1/4 inch for liquid and 3/8 inch for gas, ensuring efficient refrigerant flow.
- Refrigerant: Environmentally friendly R-32, which has a lower global warming potential compared to older refrigerants.
- Sound Pressure Levels: Only 52 dB(A) outdoors and 25-49 dB(A) indoors, making it whisper-quiet in operation.
- Voltage: 220V, perfect for residential setups.
Securing the Highest LogisVert Grant
One of the most exciting aspects of this installation was securing the $2,640 LogisVert Grant from Hydro-Québec. This grant is the highest available for heat pumps in the 18,000 BTU category, emphasizing the unit’s top-tier performance and energy efficiency. For homeowners looking to make environmentally conscious choices, this grant is a compelling incentive.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

Data read live from the airgreen.ca page of each size (NEEP / AHRI certified performance). When the title names the installed size, it is highlighted; otherwise the whole range is shown. The aid shown is today’s, using Hydro-Québec’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C); amounts quoted in the article date from its publication. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.
And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
