Installation of a Sharp ZU1 range wall-mounted heat pump in Plateau-Mont-Royal (Montreal)
AirGreen installs a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump (ZU1 series, R-32) in Plateau-Mont-Royal: discreet indoor head, gravity evacuation, fine adjustments and silence. Professional HVAC installation for Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, North Shore and South Shore.

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
A perfectly integrated inner head for precise comfort, without heavy lifting
At AirGreen , we design custom HVAC solutions that respect the architecture and the daily lives of the occupants. In this Plateau-Mont-Royal home, we are installing a Sharp wall-mounted unit (ZU1 range, R-32 refrigerant) designed to efficiently heat in the winter and cool in the summer, with a clean, fast and discreet implementation . The client wanted to stabilize the temperature of an open living area overlooking a south-facing window, limit humidity variations and avoid increasing the number of finishing works.
The context: a bright living room with air circulation constraints
The interior head is positioned at the top , on a blue load-bearing wall adjacent to a wooden window . To the left, an opening leads to an office-library; to the right, the window creates significant solar gain .
Our technical objectives:
-
ensure minimal stratification despite the standard ceiling;
-
sweep the living area and the hallway leading to the office;
-
maintain silence near the reading area and the workstation;
-
allow gravity evacuation of condensates without a pump.
The choice of the Sharp ZU1 range is essential for its fine inverter modulation, its low noise level and its compatibility with energy efficiency programs in force in Quebec.
Sizing and target performance
Before any installation, we carry out a simplified load assessment : surface area, orientation, insulation of the exterior wall, number of occupants, internal inputs (lighting, IT), air infiltration and sunlight . For this room, the 9–12 kBTU/h range is appropriate depending on the use and the opening to the neighboring room.
Performance benchmarks for the chosen configuration:
-
Type : Sharp wall-mounted heat pump , R-32 .
-
Technology : variable speed inverter compressor; intelligent defrosting in heating mode.
-
Target efficiencies : High SEER to reduce summer consumption; HSPF above market average for relevant heating down to −25°C (depending on indoor/outdoor unit combination).
-
Acoustics : very low noise level at speeds 1–2, essential for reading and teleworking.
Installation details: precision and interior aesthetics
Positioning and anchoring
-
Installation height calibrated to leave ceiling clearance while maximizing airflow.
-
Anchors in the frame/uprights with plate and suitable wood screws/dowels, laser level control.
-
Checking the plumb line to ensure the slope towards the outside for the condensate drain .
Drilling and wall crossing
-
Slightly dipping core drilling (≈ 3/4 in per m) for gravity flow ; protective sheath for the refrigerant bundle.
-
Waterproofing on the inside with paintable acrylic sealant; vapor barrier to prevent condensation in the wall.
Refrigeration and electrical connections
-
Gentle bending of insulated copper tubes respecting the bending radii ; checking the tightening torques of the flare nuts with a dynamometer.
-
Nitrogen flaring during flaring to protect the inside of the pipes; vacuum < 500 microns and leak test .
-
Communication cable and dedicated power supply sized according to the nameplate, protected by a compliant circuit breaker .
Interior finishes
-
Discreet wiring harness routing behind the machine; decorative trunking only if required by the configuration.
-
Blowing test : orientation of the vanes to cover the living area without blowing directly on the seated people or on the bookcase.
Blowing logic: comfort without drafts
The Sharp head delivers a progressive laminar jet . We program:
-
an Auto mode for modulation and energy saving;
-
ample vertical oscillation to avoid stratification near the ceiling;
-
in winter, a gentle revival which favors perceived radiance and limits short cycles.
Result: a uniform temperature , better controlled humidity levels in summer, and silence suitable for reading and video calls.
Site specificities and AirGreen solutions
-
Exterior wall adjacent to window : we avoid any recycling of hot/cold air by placing the head away from the window frame and by orienting the shutters.
-
Opening towards the office : we adjust the outlet angle so that the main flow sweeps the doorway and draws the air towards the next room.
-
Finishing touches : the existing paint is protected; the penetrations are neatly filled , ready to be painted if the customer changes the color later.
Recommended HVAC maintenance
To maintain the performance and longevity of the heat pump :
-
clean/dust filters monthly during peak periods;
-
carry out a deep cleaning of the exchanger and the fan every year;
-
check the drain in spring (prevent overflows during humid heat);
-
plan an annual inspection : pressures, temperatures, electrical connections, tightening and operating diagnosis.
Our maintenance plans cover Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore with proactive reminders.
Grants and support
High-efficiency R-32 wall-mounted heat pumps may be eligible for provincial incentives depending on the combination chosen and the context (replacement of an existing system, Rénoclimat pathway leading to Chauffez vert , etc.).
We support the owner in:
-
eligibility verification and documentation (serial numbers, installation photos, detailed invoice);
-
commissioning to achieve the required parameters;
-
the usage tips to optimize real savings on the bill.
Why Sharp (ZU1 range) for an apartment in the Plateau?
-
Fine modulation : ideal for medium-sized rooms and semi-communicating open spaces ;
-
Quiet : very discreet low speeds, perfect for reading/teleworking ;
-
R-32 efficiency : better performance and reduced GWP ;
-
Four-season comfort : heating useful until very cold , stable air conditioning during heat waves;
-
Simple maintenance : accessible filters, clear diagnosis .
Result for the customer
The system provides immediate comfort and a rapid response to variations in sunlight coming from the window. The air is better circulated , temperature differences between the living room and the office are reduced, and electricity consumption is controlled thanks to inverter modulation.
The integration is clean and discreet : no visible ducting in the room, clean finishes around the head, and an almost imperceptible noise level at low speed.

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
