Installation of a Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump in Le Sud-Ouest
AirGreen installs a Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump in Le Sud-Ouest : high wall positioning near patio door, short run , gravity drain , clean finishes. Greater Montreal service: HVAC installation and HVAC maintenance .

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
4-season comfort for a ground floor room under renovation, with short run, gravity drain and clean finishes
At AirGreen , we are working on a ground floor apartment with access to the backyard, a large patio door , and work in progress (carpentry, yard leveling). The client's objective: to stabilize the temperature of an open room, exposed to solar gains in the summer and losses through glazing in the winter, without taking up floor space. We recommend a recent Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump ( R-32 ), known for its quiet operation and performance in extreme cold .
Location choice: top of wall near the patio door
The indoor unit is installed under the ceiling , at the corner of the exterior wall, above the existing return vent. This location offers:
-
a single outward, inclined drilling for the gravity drain ;
-
a short length of connections , estimated between 2 and 3 meters to the condenser in the rear yard;
-
a diffusion of air that passes through the room without blowing directly on the occupants.
We validate the clearances around the hood and bypass the recessed spotlight in the ceiling to avoid any recirculation of hot air against the plenum.
Key steps in HVAC installation
-
Protection of the area (tarpaulins, wall corners), then laser tracing for a perfectly level installation.
-
Wall support anchored in the structure; verification of center distances and loads.
-
Drilling Ø ~65 mm with outward slope for gravity drainage.
-
Passage of insulated copper refrigeration connections , communication cable and drain ; cladding in UV/frost resistant exterior capping .
-
Nitrogen test (leak) and deep vacuum < 500 microns to dry the circuit.
-
Electrical connection on dedicated circuit in accordance with code; identification on panel.
-
Commissioning : pressure/temperature control, adjustment of sweep and setpoint , explanation to the user.
Why the Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump here?
-
Versatility : additional heating in winter, efficient air conditioning in summer with effective dehumidification .
-
High efficiency thanks to R-32 refrigerant and inverter compressor.
-
Quiet operation suitable for living areas.
-
Simple maintenance : washable filters, direct access to the condensate tray for HVAC maintenance .
Depending on the capacity chosen ( 9,000 to 18,000 BTU depending on the load calculation), the ZU1 series ensures stable comfort and measurable energy savings throughout the year.
Technical details and finishes observed
-
Shutters oriented to project the flow along the ceiling then to the center of the room: better range and temperature uniformity.
-
Gravity drain fixed every 60 cm , outlet with water drop to avoid marks on the coating.
-
Discreet exterior capping , elbows sealed with neutral silicone, stainless steel screws.
-
Condenser in progress, offered on brackets or on a platform outside the snow line to limit the suction of powder and facilitate snow removal.
Sizing: the AirGreen method
We carry out a load calculation taking into account:
-
the orientation of the room and solar gains via the patio door,
-
the type of glazing and infiltrations ,
-
of the usable surface area and ceiling height ,
-
internal gains (devices, occupants).
This approach avoids oversizing (short cycles, less efficient dehumidification) and undersizing (noise, setpoint not reached).
Developed for optimal comfort
-
Summer: vertical scan activated, auto speed during the day, low in the evening.
-
Winter: more horizontal sweeping to promote initial stratification then gentle destratification .
-
Recommended guidelines: 23–24°C for air conditioning, 21–22°C for heating for living areas.
Recommended maintenance
-
Clean filters every 4–6 weeks during use.
-
Washing of batteries and disinfection of the tank : annual.
-
Drain inspection when the snow melts and before a heatwave.
-
Refrigeration check (pressure switches, subcooling/superheating) every 24 months depending on usage.
Grants and Eligibility
The new generation wall-mounted heat pump may be eligible for certain programs (depending on the capacity , certified yields and low temperature performance of the chosen configuration). We support our customers in Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , on the North Shore and South Shore to verify the criteria and prepare the file .
Pitfalls avoided thanks to our expertise
-
Drilling without slope : risk of backflow, avoided by our template and level control.
-
Obstacle in blowing (ladder, furniture, curtains): we validate the jet zone before final fixing.
-
Lines too long : short route design to limit load losses and preserve the COP .
Result for the customer
The room gains immediate thermal stability and better humidity control. The system remains discreet , easy to use and ready for both extreme heat and bitter cold. With AirGreen, the HVAC installation is clean, documented (photos, measurements, advice) and supported by a recurring HVAC maintenance service .

How it goes, from the first call to the end
The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.
We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.
Model, capacity and price, in writing. We also check whether the model qualifies for assistance programs.
Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.
Remote, modes, filters: we show you the essentials before we leave.

Data read live from the airgreen.ca page of each size (NEEP / AHRI certified performance). When the title names the installed size, it is highlighted; otherwise the whole range is shown. The aid shown is today’s, using Hydro-Québec’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C); amounts quoted in the article date from its publication. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.
And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
