Installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in Montreal North

For this project, we were called to a brick residential building in Montreal North . The client wanted to modernize their air conditioning system and add efficient supplemental heating for the winter, without encroaching on the floor space already cluttered with materials and technical pipes.

Our recommendation: the installation of a Gree Inverter single-zone wall-mounted heat pump , fixed directly to the exterior wall on brackets, with refrigerant lines covered along the entire height.

A typical building in Montreal North, with its very real constraints.

The building is a brick residential block, like many seen in Montreal North:

  • solid red brick wall;

  • ground space occupied by pipes, some vegetation and stored equipment;

  • occasional visits for maintenance around the building.

In this context, installing the condenser on the floor would have posed several problems:

  • risk of obstruction by snow in winter;

  • accumulation of dust, leaves and debris;

  • hindering movement and future work on the pipes located at the bottom of the wall.

We therefore opted for a wall-mounted installation on metal supports , in order to free up floor space and optimize air circulation around the machine.

Choosing the Gree wall-mounted heat pump

We opted for a Gree Inverter wall-mounted heat pump of approximately 18,000 BTU , ideal for covering the main living area of the dwelling:

  • Inverter technology : power is continuously adjusted according to demand, which limits temperature variations and reduces electricity consumption.

  • Efficient heating mode in winter : the heat pump remains effective even when outside temperatures drop, making it an excellent complement to existing heating.

  • Compact and silent format : a major advantage for a dense residential environment, where acoustic comfort is as important as thermal comfort.

Inside, the Gree wall head ensures a gentle and uniform air distribution , allowing the customer to enjoy a stable temperature in summer and winter.

A clean and structured wall installation

The photo clearly shows the Gree condenser mounted high on the brick wall , along with a long, vertical, burgundy-colored duct that runs up the building. This installation isn't just for looks; it's designed for durability and performance.

Wall brackets and clearances

The condenser is mounted on sturdy wall brackets , with:

  • sufficient clearance behind and under the machine to ensure good air circulation;

  • anti-vibration pads under the legs to limit the transmission of vibrations to the masonry;

  • a height calculated to remain above the projected snow and clear of the cluttered ground.

This choice ensures better protection of the condenser against the elements, while also facilitating maintenance interventions.

Vertical duct for refrigeration connections

The refrigeration lines, communication cable, and drain are grouped together in a vertical external trunking which:

  • follows the facade over the entire necessary height;

  • protects pipes from UV rays, shocks and inclement weather;

  • provides an orderly visual presentation, important for preserving the building's appearance;

  • allows quick access in case of diagnosis or repair.

The dark color of the gutter harmonizes with the brick, making the whole thing discreet despite the height.

Floor space management

At the base of the wall, there are metal pipes and construction equipment . We have:

  • positioned the condenser high enough to free up technical space and not obstruct access to existing pipes;

  • adjusted the length of the connections and the drain outlet to prevent any water stagnation and direct the flow away from the building;

  • secured electrical cables and fittings so that they are not exposed to shocks or accidental handling.

The result: an installation that respects the reality on the ground while remaining perfectly functional and safe.

Four-season performance and comfort

Thanks to this Gree wall-mounted heat pump, the customer now benefits from:

  • In summer : enjoy fast and efficient air conditioning, even during the heat waves that regularly affect Montreal North. Inverter technology ensures a stable temperature without unpleasant cold drafts.

  • In the mid-season : a gentle supplementary heater, ideal when the central heating is not yet on, which prevents you from being too hot or too cold.

  • In winter : a solution that relieves the main system and reduces the energy bill, while improving comfort in the main rooms.

The Gree heat pump also allows for better control of indoor humidity , which improves air quality and the feeling of comfort.

The challenges of exterior brick walls

Installing a heat pump on a brick wall requires specific expertise:

  • Suitable anchors : we use plugs and anchors designed for masonry, capable of supporting the weight of the condenser over the long term.

  • Respect for the structure : the positioning of the fixing holes is designed to avoid weakening the brick or the joints.

  • Passage of connections : the wall penetration is carried out carefully to minimize air and water infiltration, then sealed and properly insulated.

At AirGreen, we are used to working on this type of facade, which is very common in the north and east of Montreal.

AirGreen support: from assessment to commissioning

As with all our projects, we handled the installation of this Gree wall-mounted heat pump in Montreal North on a turnkey basis:

  1. Visit and needs assessment
    Analysis of the area to be air-conditioned/heated, site constraints and customer habits.

  2. Gree Capacity and Model Recommendation
    Sizing of BTU power, choice of options (heating in extreme cold, noise levels, comfort functions).

  3. Installation planning
    Defining the optimal location of the condenser and the routing of the connections, while taking into account the technical constraints on the ground.

  4. Professional installation
    Installation of wall brackets, installation of the cable tray, refrigeration and electrical connection, pressure tests and commissioning.

  5. Explanation to the customer
    We take the time to explain the operating modes, recommended settings and good maintenance practices to extend the life of the heat pump.
