In Verdun, houses and duplexes are often built very close together, with small side walkways that serve as passageways, garden access, and storage for mechanical equipment. In this residential project, our clients wanted to enjoy the comfort of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump while making smart use of this limited space, without compromising circulation or aesthetics.
We therefore designed a custom installation: a Gree single-zone wall-mounted heat pump , designed for the four-season comfort of a Verdun home, with a condenser installed safely and efficiently in a very narrow alley.
A typical setting for houses in Verdun
The property is a typical Verdun house or duplex, with:
-
An exterior wooden cladding on one side.
-
One structure is a fence or terrace type, the other.
-
A strip of gravel on the ground serving as a passageway and technical area.
This often-overlooked space is actually ideal for housing air conditioning/heating equipment… provided that clearance, ventilation, and access regulations are strictly followed. That's where our expertise comes in.
A Gree wall-mounted heat pump for four-season comfort
To meet the occupants' needs, we proposed a new generation Gree wall-mounted heat pump :
-
Single-zone mini-split system, perfect for air conditioning and heating the main living area (living room, dining room, open-plan kitchen).
-
Compressor with inverter technology, which continuously modulates its power to maintain a stable temperature and reduce electricity consumption.
-
High-performance heating mode to support the main heating system for much of the winter.
-
Air conditioning and dehumidification function to cope with summer heat waves and riverside humidity.
Inside, the wall unit is installed high up in the most frequently used living room. It remains discreet, while ensuring good air circulation to other rooms when the doors are open.
Installing the Gree condenser in a very confined space
The unique aspect of this project is the extremely limited outdoor space . The Gree condenser is wedged between the wooden wall of the house and a fence/terrace structure, with limited clearance on the sides.
To ensure the heat pump operates optimally despite this environment, we have:
-
Installed the condenser on a raised support fixed to a rigid platform, itself placed on compacted gravel.
-
Checked and respected the minimum clearances recommended by Gree for air intake and exhaust (distance at the rear, sides and above).
-
Orient the unit so that air can flow freely towards the open end of the aisle , avoiding the recirculation of hot or cold air.
-
Organize the passage of refrigerant lines and wiring neatly along the wall to free up as much floor space as possible.
This precise positioning work is crucial: in such a tight space, the slightest error can harm performance, defrosting in winter and the lifespan of the equipment.
Snow, water and vibration management
Verdun's climate requires planning for installation in all seasons:
-
The condenser is elevated , which protects it from snow on the ground, ice and puddles of water during melting.
-
The gravel on the ground promotes natural drainage , preventing water from accumulating under the unit.
-
Anti-vibration silent blocks are installed under the machine's legs to reduce the transmission of vibrations to the structure and limit the noise felt inside.
We have also considered service operations: despite the limited space, our technicians can access the unit for annual maintenance, pressure or electrical checks and any future interventions.
Commissioning and support for owners
Once the mechanical installation was complete, we proceeded to:
-
A complete vacuuming and leak testing of the refrigeration circuit.
-
A check of the operating parameters (pressures, intensity, blowing temperature) to ensure that the Gree heat pump performs as expected.
-
Basic programming of the device and explanation of its operating modes:
-
Cooling and dehumidification mode in summer.
-
Heating mode in autumn/winter, with adjusted settings to reduce consumption.
-
Judicious use of the "auto" function and the shutter sweep.
-
We took the time to show homeowners how to clean the indoor unit filters, how often, and what signs to watch for to plan preventative maintenance.
Results: comfort, efficiency and discretion
Thanks to this Gree wall-mounted heat pump , the occupants now benefit from:
-
Enjoying constant comfort in their accommodation, summer and winter.
-
A reduction in energy bills , compared to the exclusive use of electric baseboard heaters or window air conditioners.
-
From a discreet outdoor installation, relegated to a little-used side alley, without compromising performance or accessibility.
This type of project clearly demonstrates that it is possible, even in a very limited space, to meet technical standards while preserving the quality of life of the occupants and the value of the property.
