A residential project in a duplex typical of the neighborhood
At AirGreen , we recently completed the installation of a Haier wall-mounted heat pump in a duplex in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood of Montreal . This area, characterized by its narrow streets and red brick facades, often imposes space and traffic constraints, particularly when it comes to installing heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Our team rose to the challenge by proposing a tailor-made solution, adapted to the energy needs and comfort of the occupants.
Client context and needs
The owner was looking for an effective solution to:
-
Replace an old wall-mounted air conditioner that has become energy-consuming,
-
Improve four-season comfort,
-
Benefit from a system eligible for Quebec subsidies for efficient heat pumps.
The choice fell on a Haier model known for its reliability, energy efficiency and stable operation down to very low temperatures.
Technical details of the installation
Interior positioning
The wall-mounted headboard was installed directly above the door leading to the backyard. This strategic choice allows:
-
Uniform diffusion of air in the main space,
-
Optimization of available wall space,
-
Simplified accessibility for regular maintenance.
Refrigerant drilling and connections
Our technicians made a direct hole behind the wall header to install the refrigeration pipes. The pipes were carefully insulated and covered with discreet white capping , in harmony with the interior walls.
Condensate management
In this project, we opted for gravity drainage with an appropriate slope towards the outside. This avoids the need for a condensate pump, thus reducing maintenance costs and the risk of breakdown.
Outdoor unit and route
The outdoor unit was installed on a reinforced wall bracket , slightly overhanging the backyard floor. This arrangement:
-
Protects the condenser from snow accumulation in winter,
-
Facilitates the flow of condensate,
-
Guarantees consistent performance even during freezing episodes.
Performance and customer benefits
-
Selected capacity: 12,000 BTU , ideal for efficiently covering the main living space of the home.
-
Energy efficiency : Energy Star certification, guaranteeing savings on electricity bills.
-
Four-season comfort : efficient heating down to -25°C, fast and quiet air conditioning in summer.
-
Simplified maintenance : washable filters and quick access for after-sales service.
Thanks to this installation, the customer benefits from stable comfort all year round , a significant reduction in energy consumption and a modern system perfectly integrated into the aesthetics of their home.
The challenges encountered and the solutions provided
Space constraints
In Rosemont duplexes, narrow alleys and rear balconies often limit the available space for the outdoor unit. We solved this challenge by mounting the unit on a sturdy wall bracket, freeing up floor space.
Insulation and noise
To reduce noise transmission to neighbors, we have added anti-vibration pads between the condenser and the wall mount. This detail ensures quiet operation, respecting the immediate neighborhood.
