In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Bringing Energy Efficiency and Comfort to a Vibrant Neighborhood
In the heart of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, we recently completed an installation that perfectly blends modern technology with the unique needs of our clients. This project involved a 15,000 BTU SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump, a system known for its exceptional performance and advanced features. Let’s dive into the details of this remarkable installation and why it stands out as a game-changer for homeowners.
Why Choose the SHARP ZU1 Mini Split Heat Pump?
The SHARP ZU1 model isn’t just another heat pump; it’s a statement of quality, durability, and cutting-edge innovation. Built to withstand extreme temperatures down to -27°C, this machine provides both heating and cooling solutions year-round, making it an ideal choice for Quebec’s challenging climate. Here are a few reasons why this model is a top pick for our customers:
- High Efficiency: With a remarkable 24.0 SEER rating, the SHARP ZU1 ensures energy savings without compromising on performance.
- Eco-Friendly Refrigerant: The use of R-32 refrigerant makes this system not only efficient but also environmentally responsible, reducing greenhouse gas emissions significantly.
- Plasmacluster Technology: This unique air purification system neutralizes airborne bacteria, viruses, and allergens, ensuring cleaner and healthier indoor air.
- Whisper-Quiet Operation: With an interior sound level as low as 23 dB(A), the system operates almost silently, providing ultimate comfort.
The Installation Process: Precision Meets Expertise
For this installation in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, our team faced a few challenges that required meticulous planning and execution. The goal was to integrate the unit seamlessly into the home’s existing layout while maintaining aesthetic appeal and optimal functionality. Here’s how we achieved it:
1. Strategic Placement of the Outdoor Unit
The outdoor unit, measuring 30.72 x 10.59 x 21.25 inches, was installed on a sturdy, elevated stand to ensure stability and proper drainage during harsh winters. Positioned on the balcony, it minimizes visual impact while maximizing efficiency. The unit’s anticorrosive coating ensures long-term durability, even in Montreal’s unpredictable weather.
2. Clean and Discreet Piping Installation
To maintain the home’s visual integrity, we used custom-fabricated piping covers in a color that complements the building’s brick exterior. The piping, measuring 1/4 - 3/8 inches, ensures efficient refrigerant flow while blending harmoniously with the façade.
3. Optimal Interior Unit Placement
The interior unit, designed with sleek dimensions of 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, was mounted strategically in the living area. Its Coanda Airflow Control ensures even temperature distribution, creating a comfortable environment without directing airflow directly onto the occupants.
4. Advanced WiFi Integration
We ensured that the WiFi functionality was seamlessly set up, allowing the homeowner to control the heat pump remotely via their smartphone. From adjusting temperatures to monitoring energy consumption, the system provides unmatched convenience and flexibility.
Benefits of This Installation
Energy Savings with LogisVert Grant
This SHARP ZU1 heat pump is eligible for the $2,172 LogisVert Grant, the highest grant available for a 15,000 BTU unit. Not only does this make it a financially smart choice, but it also aligns with the government’s energy efficiency goals.
Quiet Comfort for Everyday Living
One of the standout features of this installation is the system’s ultra-quiet operation. Whether it’s heating during a cold winter night or cooling during a sweltering summer day, the SHARP ZU1 operates discreetly in the background.
Cleaner, Healthier Air
Thanks to Plasmacluster technology, the homeowner now enjoys purified air free of allergens, mold, and odors. This feature is particularly beneficial for families with young children or those with respiratory concerns.
Durability in Extreme Conditions
Montreal winters are no match for the SHARP ZU1. Its hot gas pipe system and advanced defrosting technology ensure uninterrupted heating, even in subzero temperatures. Multiple drainage holes prevent water accumulation and freezing, safeguarding the unit’s performance.

Floors and furniture protected, wall plate position marked level, wall opening located.
A single opening, with the slope the drain needs to flow outside.
Set on a stand raised above the snow, with the clearances the manufacturer requires.
Connected, insulated and protected. The opening is then sealed against water, cold air and insects.
A dedicated circuit and an accessible disconnect near the outdoor unit.
Leak test, vacuum, then start-up and a check of heating and cooling.

Data read live from the airgreen.ca page of each size (NEEP / AHRI certified performance). When the title names the installed size, it is highlighted; otherwise the whole range is shown. The aid shown is today’s, using Hydro-Québec’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C); amounts quoted in the article date from its publication. Only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted.
And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
