Installation of a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie: performance and reliability on gravel flooring

In this project in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , our AirGreen team installed aSharp wall-mounted heat pump for a residential building. The client's objective was clear: to benefit from a reliable, energy-efficient system ready to withstand the rigors of Montreal's climate, without compromising the durability of the outdoor installation.

The photo shows the Sharp ECO Inverter condenser, equipped with Ion Plasmacluster technology, mounted on a raised stand above a bed of gravel. A second unit is also visible in the background, indicating that the site houses several independently air-conditioned apartments.

A Sharp wall-mounted heat pump perfectly suited to the building

The installed system is a Sharp ZU1 series wall-mounted heat pump , designed for residential use. This range is particularly appreciated for:

  • Its Inverter technology , which continuously adjusts the compressor's power;

  • Its excellent heating efficiency , even when temperatures drop well below zero;

  • Its quiet operation makes it ideal for apartment buildings;

  • The integration of Ion Plasmacluster technology, which helps to improve indoor air quality.

Inside, Sharp wall-mounted units provide air conditioning in summer and heating in winter, room by room, with precise temperature control and optimized energy consumption.

A stable, durable and safe gravel mounting

The Sharp condenser is installed on an aluminum support resting on wooden planks placed directly on the gravel. This configuration choice was not made at random:

  • The gravel ensures good drainage of rainwater and snowmelt, preventing accumulations around the base.

  • The wooden beams distribute the load and create a solid base, while protecting the support legs from direct contact with the ground.

  • The raised support keeps the heat pump at a safe height above the snow level, reducing the risk of the fan being buried or blocked in winter.

  • Securely fixed metal anchors ensure the stability of the whole structure, even in strong winds.

The care taken in aligning and leveling the structure is also noteworthy. These details make all the difference to the equipment's lifespan and the acoustic comfort of the occupants.

Vibration and noise management

In a neighbourhood like Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, where backyards and common passageways are often shared, it is essential to minimize noise and vibrations.

For this installation, we have:

  • A rigid aluminum support was used to limit resonance;

  • Position the heat pump to comply with the clearances required by Sharp, in order to promote good air circulation and avoid unnecessary stress on the compressor;

  • We checked the proper acoustic operation at full load during commissioning, to ensure a comfortable noise level for residents and their neighbors.

Sharp's Inverter technology, combined with the quality of the AirGreen assembly, allows the system to operate very discreetly, even when heating or cooling demand is high.

An installation designed for Montreal's winter

Winters in Montreal are demanding on HVAC systems. That's why every detail of the installation is crucial:

  • The height above the ground limits the risk of being blocked by snow and ice.

  • The presence of gravel helps to quickly drain defrost water , reducing the formation of ice patches under the unit.

  • Choosing a Sharp ECO Inverter wall-mounted heat pump offers excellent low-temperature performance, reducing reliance on supplemental heating.

Our team also took care to properly protect and secure the refrigeration lines and electrical wiring , so that they remain safe and aesthetically pleasing throughout the seasons.

The AirGreen signature: quality, cleanliness and peace of mind

At AirGreen, we believe that the quality of an HVAC project depends as much on the choice of equipment as on the quality of the installation. For this project in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, we have:

  • Advised the client on the size of Sharp heat pump best suited to their needs;

  • Planned the exterior positioning taking into account the terrain configuration , clearances and other units in place;

  • Performed refrigeration connections , vacuuming and pressure tests according to best practices;

  • Completed the full commissioning , including electrical checks, system configuration and explanations to the customer on the optimal use of their heat pump.

The result: a reliable, efficient and well-protected system that offers comfort, energy savings and peace of mind for many years.
