  1. Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.

  2. The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.

  3. Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.

  4. A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.

  5. The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.

  6. On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.

  7. The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.

Efficient Comfort Meets Elegant Innovation in Outremont

At AirGreen, we recently had the privilege of installing the state-of-the-art SHARP ZHU1 12,000 BTU ductless heat pump in a charming Outremont home. This project showcases not only the technical precision of our team but also the unparalleled features of the SHARP ZHU1, a product that seamlessly blends efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. Let’s delve into the details of this unique installation and the outstanding benefits it brings to our customers.

The Setting: A Warm Welcome in Outremont

Nestled in the heart of Outremont, this installation was all about enhancing the comfort and air quality of a beautiful residence. Outremont's blend of historic charm and modern living calls for HVAC solutions that are both efficient and aesthetically pleasing. Our customer sought a heat pump that could tackle Quebec’s extreme winters and sweltering summers while offering sleek, unobtrusive design. The SHARP ZHU1 was the perfect match for these requirements.

Why the SHARP ZHU1 Stands Out

Impressive Heating and Cooling Capabilities

The SHARP ZHU1 is a top performer, offering 12,000 BTUs of cooling power and an ability to heat even when outdoor temperatures plummet to an icy -27°C. This makes it ideal for Montreal’s unpredictable climate. Unlike many competitors, this heat pump maintains consistent performance in extreme cold, ensuring year-round comfort.

Unmatched Energy Efficiency

Rated at a stellar 25.0 SEER, the SHARP ZHU1 is engineered for energy-conscious homeowners. Equipped with the R-32 refrigerant, it not only reduces electricity consumption but also minimizes environmental impact. Compared to older refrigerants like R-22, R-32 has a significantly lower global warming potential, making it a sustainable choice for eco-friendly living.

Silent Operation

Peace and quiet are paramount in any home. The SHARP ZHU1 delivers whisper-quiet operation with an interior sound pressure level ranging from 22 to 44 dB(A) and an exterior level of just 49 dB(A). This ensures that the unit goes virtually unnoticed while providing maximum comfort.

Advanced Air Purification with Plasmacluster Technology

The SHARP ZHU1 doesn’t just regulate temperature; it also purifies the air with its Plasmacluster ion technology. This innovative feature eliminates airborne bacteria, viruses, and allergens, creating a healthier indoor environment. Say goodbye to mold, odors, and pollutants, and hello to fresher, cleaner air.

Details of the Installation

Perfect Placement for Optimal Performance

Our team carefully selected a central location within the home to install the interior unit. Measuring 41.42 x 9.80 x 12.44 inches, the compact design of the SHARP ZHU1 allowed us to position it discreetly above a doorway. This ensured optimal airflow throughout the space without compromising the aesthetic of the room.

Efficient Outdoor Installation

The exterior unit, measuring 30.72 x 10.59 x 21.25 inches, was mounted securely to withstand the elements while ensuring minimal visual impact. The anti-corrosive coating on the outdoor unit guarantees long-lasting performance, even in Quebec’s harsh winters.

Seamless Integration

To ensure efficiency and longevity, we used high-quality 1/4 - 3/8 inch piping and connected the system to a 220V power supply. The 10-10-10 warranty (10 years on the compressor, parts, and labor) provides peace of mind, demonstrating the reliability of this cutting-edge product.

Grant Eligibility: A Game-Changer for Homeowners

One of the most exciting aspects of this installation is its eligibility for the $2,268 LogisVert Grant by Hydro-Québec—the highest amount offered for a 12,000 BTU heat pump! This grant makes the SHARP ZHU1 not only a smart investment in comfort but also a financially savvy choice for homeowners looking to upgrade their HVAC systems.

Unique Features That Set the SHARP ZHU1 Apart

Nature-Inspired Fan Design

The ZHU1 features fan blades inspired by dragonfly wings and bird flight patterns, optimizing airflow by up to 30% indoors and 20% outdoors. This innovative design enhances efficiency while reducing energy consumption.

Coanda Airflow Control

Thanks to the Coanda effect, this unit directs air strategically along walls and ceilings to ensure even temperature distribution. This eliminates uncomfortable drafts and ensures a consistent climate throughout the home.

Smart Connectivity

With built-in WiFi, the SHARP ZHU1 offers complete control via a smartphone app. Features include:

  • Real-time monitoring of temperature and humidity
  • Energy consumption tracking
  • Multi-zone control for additional indoor units
  • GPS interlocking to adjust settings based on your location

Quick Defrost Technology

Defrost cycles are 60% faster, ensuring uninterrupted heating during Quebec’s coldest months. The patented Hot Gas Pipe technology further enhances reliability by preventing ice buildup in the outdoor unit.

The Customer Experience

Our client was thrilled with the results, particularly the unit’s sleek design and ultra-quiet operation. They were also impressed by the air purification capabilities, which significantly improved the indoor air quality. Knowing that the system could handle even the harshest winters gave them confidence in their investment.

The steps

How it goes, from the first call to the end

The main steps of this kind of job at AirGreen. Every house has its quirks: the estimate brings them out.

Step 1 of 9The on-site estimate

We look at the room, the outside wall, the line route and where the outdoor unit will go. That is where the capacity gets chosen.

    Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about this kind of work

    12 questions
Does a wall-mounted heat pump heat in winter?
Yes, it heats and cools. Its capacity drops in very cold weather; the operating range depends on the model and is listed on its spec sheet.
    Wall-mounted or multi-zone: how do I choose?
One wall head and one condenser outside: the direct solution for a room or an open area. For two to five rooms, a multi-zone puts one head in each room on a single condenser.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
Where it stays above the snow, clear and accessible, away from walkways. We decide it with you during the estimate.
    Are there grants?
Depending on the model and your situation, assistance programs may apply, including Hydro-Québec's LogisVert. AirGreen checks the model number before quoting an amount. See the grants.
    Do I need a permit?
Rules vary from city to city: location, distances, noise. See permits and by-laws, and we check for your address.
    How cold can it heat?
It depends on the model. According to Hydro-Québec, newer models work down to a temperature between −15 °C and −25 °C, and some cold-climate models are certified lower. The minimum temperature is on each unit's spec sheet.
    How much can I save?
Hydro-Québec says a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months. The result depends on the house, the climate and how it is used.
How is the LogisVert assistance calculated?
For ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified heat pumps, Hydro-Québec lists assistance of $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at −8 °C. AirGreen checks the exact model before quoting an amount; only Hydro-Québec confirms the assistance granted. See the grants.
    Is it noisy?
The sound level depends on the model and is listed in decibels on each unit's spec sheet. Location matters too: when possible, we avoid putting the outdoor unit under a bedroom window.
The outdoor unit is covered in ice: is that normal?
Some frost is: the unit runs defrost cycles. Never hit the ice. If the unit stays iced up or stops heating, call us.
Does AirGreen hold the required licences?
Yes. AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, subclasses 15.8 Ventilation, 15.10 Refrigeration and 16 Electricity.
    Is the estimate free?
Yes. The on-site estimate is free and the quote follows within 24 hours. Book my free estimate.
