Installation of a Zephyr Multi-Zone wall-mounted heat pump in Chomedey (Laval)

A Zephyr dual-fan unit designed to heat and cool multiple rooms, neatly integrated into a brick facade

In Chomedey , a residential area of Laval dominated by brick houses with semi-buried basements and narrow side walkways, we carried out the HVAC installation of a MultiZone Zephyr heat pump intended to serve several rooms of a single-family home. The environment presented typical constraints: tight passage between the house and the fence, proximity to an outdoor spa , vegetation to be preserved and an exposed foundation base. Our team orchestrated a safe and sustainable installation while preserving the aesthetics of the facade.

Context and needs of the house

The family wanted:

  • Replace spot cooling with four-season comfort in 3 main areas (living room, master bedroom, basement).

  • Reduce energy costs compared to portable appliances and electric baseboard heaters.

  • Minimize the footprint in the yard and comply with municipal and insurance requirements related to the proximity of the spa .

After calculating the thermal loads and validating the possible paths, we selected a Zephyr dual-fan outdoor unit coupled with wall-mounted heads with capacities adapted to each room. The configuration offers an excellent compromise between cold performance, quiet operation and distribution flexibility.

Choice and installation of the outdoor unit

The Zephyr unit is fixed on galvanized wall brackets anchored in the brick and raised in order to:

  • clear the air intake and exhaust grilles;

  • maintain the clearances prescribed by the manufacturer;

  • protect against snow accumulation and facilitate the flow of defrosting water;

  • reduce vibration transmission thanks to high-density silent blocks .

The chosen lateral location ensures free airflow despite the restricted space, while maintaining a safe distance from the spa (electrical standards and thermal clearances). The external disconnect panel is located within visual range, protected from water splashes.

Refrigerated route and drilling management

The refrigerant connections run along the rear facade, at waist height, then rise through discreet light-colored UV cladding to reach the entrances to the three rooms.

  • Estimated total length of the connections: 18 to 22 m, divided into three branches.

  • Curvature radii respected to preserve the refrigerant charge and limit pressure losses.

  • Clean holes with vapor barriers and insulating packing to maintain the airtightness of the envelope.

  • Controlled slopes for the flow of condensates on the interior side, promoting gravity drainage without a pump when possible.

This approach guarantees stable performance and avoids water pollution near the foundations.

Salient technical details

  • Machine type : MultiZone heat pump (multizone mini-split).

  • Brand : Zephyr (high flow dual-fan outdoor unit).

  • Supports : wall brackets with stainless steel hardware and anti-vibration pads .

  • Electricity : dedicated circuit with suitable circuit breaker, armoured cable to the external disconnector; earthing checked.

  • Condensates (interior): insulated pipes, controlled slope; discreet outlet on the rear side.

  • Winter management : defrost water discharge area prepared (draining stone bed), minimum clearance maintained in front of the lower fan.

Site features: brick, spa and existing tree

The brick wall requires proper anchors and a check of the condition of the air barrier. We have spaced out the fixing points to distribute the load and eliminate the risk of tearing.
The presence of a covered spa requires:

  • side clearance for maintenance and air circulation;

  • splash protection for wiring ;

  • strict management of conduits to avoid accidental contact with hot surfaces or cleaning products.
    The bordering tree was preserved; we oriented the equipment to avoid recirculation of leaves in the grids and planned a seasonal maintenance plan .

Interior integration: three zones, three comforts

Each wall head has been calibrated according to volume, solar orientation and use:

  • Living room : airflow optimized for range, positioning avoiding direct blowing towards the rest area.

  • Master bedroom : silent night mode, fine temperature management .

  • Basement : stable cover of a more humid space; settings favoring dehumidification in summer.

Multi-zone control allows you to adjust the settings room by room, reducing electricity consumption and increasing the feeling of comfort.

Noise and vibrations: what we are putting in place

For homes in Laval, Montreal, Longueuil, North Shore and South Shore , sound perception is a recurring issue. We systematically apply:

  • elastomer pads under the outdoor unit;

  • tighten to the recommended torque to avoid buzzing;

  • direction of breath away from nearby windows ;

  • resonance test at the end of installation and rebalancing if necessary.
    Result: discreet operation , compatible with neighboring uses and relaxation around the spa.

Safety, compliance and sustainability

  • Wiring protected in compliant conduits, service loops respected.

  • Sealing of the crossings with urethane and sealant compatible with air barrier.

  • Service valves and charge port accessible for future maintenance.

  • Commissioning documentation recording pressures, superheat, subcooling and measured currents .

Grants and Eligibility

High-performance multi-zone heat pumps may be eligible for incentives based on their efficiency class and cold-weather heating capacity . Our team assists homeowners in Greater Montreal to verify the criteria and submit applications when the chosen equipment meets them.

Recommended HVAC maintenance

To ensure the longevity of the heat pump :

  • clean the filters of the interior heads every 1 to 3 months;

  • clear 60 cm around the outdoor unit (leaves, snow, temporary objects);

  • avoid directing the air discharge towards light tarpaulins (e.g. spa cover);

  • schedule annual maintenance (refrigerant check, electrical tests, drainage, probes).
    Regular maintenance maintains yields and reduces the risk of downtime during peak periods.

Result: zoned comfort and clean facade

The installation delivered to Chomedey offers:

  • stable winter heating and efficient summer cooling ;

  • careful integration into the brick without encroaching on the relaxation space;

  • easy maintenance thanks to clear access and commissioning documentation.

At AirGreen , we design each HVAC installation as a technical architecture project : adaptation to the site, compliance with regulations, clean finishes and lasting performance. Whether you are in Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , on the North Shore or the South Shore , our team guides you from the choice of heat pump to maintenance, with solutions aligned with your home and your uses.
