For this project in Chomedey, Laval , our clients, the co-owners, wanted to modernize the comfort of their upstairs condo while respecting the constraints of a high balcony and the condominium rules. We proposed the installation of a Gree Pular wall-mounted heat pump , a compact, quiet, and highly efficient system for condo-type units.
A typical condo setting in Laval
The condo is located in a red brick building, with balconies overlooking a large parking lot and a wooded area – a common configuration in several parts of Laval. The clients' requirements were clear:
-
Enjoy efficient air conditioning during summer heatwaves;
-
Add an economical auxiliary heater to reduce the use of electric baseboard heaters;
-
Finding a solution compatible with a condominium balcony : no unit suspended from the wall, limited noise, clean and safe installation;
-
Minimize the aesthetic impact on the building, both for themselves and for the neighbors.
After analyzing the area to be air-conditioned and the configuration of the rooms, we recommended a Gree Pular wall-mounted heat pump of approximately 12,000 BTU , perfectly sized for the main living area of the condo (living room, dining room, open-plan kitchen).
The solution: a Gree Pular wall-mounted heat pump
The Gree Pular is a new generation Inverter wall-mounted heat pump, designed to offer:
-
Fine modulation of power, for stable comfort and reduced consumption;
-
A very low noise level, ideal for condominium buildings;
-
Excellent energy efficiency, both in air conditioning and heating;
-
A new generation refrigerant, more efficient and more environmentally friendly than older generations of systems.
Inside the apartment, the Gree wall-mounted head was strategically installed to optimize airflow in the main room, while respecting the furniture layout and finishes. The result: a homogeneous temperature distribution, without direct drafts on the occupants.
An installation on a high balcony: stability, safety and silence
The most challenging aspect of this project in Chomedey was installing the outdoor unit on the condo's balcony . The photo clearly shows the Gree unit mounted on a raised aluminum bracket , securely attached to the balcony floor.
Here are the main technical points of this configuration:
-
Self-supporting aluminum stand : robust and corrosion-resistant, it allows the unit to be raised to facilitate water drainage, maintain sufficient clearance under the device and prevent any stagnation of moisture on the slab.
-
Precise level control : A leveling rod placed on the unit during installation ensures perfect leveling. This reduces vibration, improves compressor operation, and protects the system's longevity.
-
Load distribution on the slab : the feet of the support are equipped with pads and suitable fixings to distribute the weight without damaging the surface of the balcony.
-
Respect for guardrails and passage : the unit is positioned against the brick, at an adequate distance from the guardrail, leaving a comfortable passage for occupants and allowing for simple maintenance.
-
Condensate and duct management : Refrigerant lines and the condensate drain pass through the brick wall to the interior, with a clean, sealed, and insulated penetration. Everything is carefully capped to protect the pipes and maintain the aesthetics.
Below, we can see the AirGreen truck parked near the building, demonstrating our presence on site and the logistical organization necessary for this type of high-rise construction site.
Performance and comfort in the Laval climate
In Laval, the temperature variations are significant:
-
Hot summers with several heat waves;
-
Harsh winters, with periods of sustained cold;
-
Inter-seasons where we frequently alternate between heating and air conditioning.
The Gree Pular wall-mounted heat pump perfectly addresses these realities:
-
In summer , it provides fast and quiet air conditioning, even in an open area exposed to the sun.
-
In mid-season , it becomes a very economical heating source, allowing for a significant reduction in the use of electric baseboard heaters.
-
In winter , it acts as a supplementary heating source, particularly effective during periods of moderate cold, which reduces the annual electricity bill.
Thanks to inverter technology, the machine doesn't operate in an on/off fashion: it adapts its power to the actual demand. This translates to:
-
Fewer temperature variations;
-
More linear and better controlled consumption;
-
Generally quieter and more durable operation.
An installation that complies with the condominium's requirements
Condominium buildings often impose strict rules regarding outdoor equipment. For this project in Chomedey, we paid particular attention to:
-
The visual discretion of the outdoor unit, positioned near the patio door, aligned with the railing;
-
The noise level , by choosing a Gree heat pump known for its low noise and ensuring that the unit does not transmit vibrations to the structure;
-
Safety : no element protrudes dangerously from the balcony, and the passage remains clear for both occupants and those involved.
Our installers also took the time to explain to the clients the best practices for use in a condominium: minimum clearance around the unit, visual maintenance, natural defrosting in winter, and communication with the condominium association when necessary.
AirGreen's support from start to finish
As with all our projects in Greater Montreal, we handled this Gree heat pump project in Chomedey completely:
-
Analysis of the need and the building : area to be covered, orientation of the rooms, constraints of the balcony, rules of the co-ownership.
-
Recommendation of a suitable solution : choosing a Gree Pular wall-mounted heat pump of appropriate capacity rather than an oversized or central system, which is poorly suited to the context.
-
Professional installation :
-
Aluminum bracket fixing;
-
Refrigeration connection with vacuuming and leak testing;
-
Electrical connection on a dedicated circuit;
-
Complete commissioning.
-
-
Occupant training : use of the remote control, operating modes (cooling, heating, dehumidification, auto), maintenance of indoor filters and visual checks to be carried out each season.
Our clients now have a reliable, discreet and very comfortable system, perfectly suited to their Chomedey condo and the Laval climate.
